If you're looking for actual interview transcripts with serial killers, forget it. While the author claims to have logged "counltess" hours in correspondence and meetings with various murderers, he has very little to show for the work that he supposedly did. Many of the quotes in this book come from sources such as statements to police or court transcripts that are publicly available. The names and crimes of the killers are already well documented elsewhere. Worse still, the style suffers from embarrassing cliches, pretentious hyperbole, and bogus moral outrage that is expressed while missing no opportunity to titillate the reader.

This is a lame piece of hack work.

Someone gave me this book and another from the series (Mealtime). While I applaud the concept of books that teach children about appropriate behavior, I have a very low opinion of these books and can not recommend them.
The writing is very uninspiring. "I do not want to get my clothes wet. I take my clothes off. I want to get my body clean." Maybe this type of language could be good for early readers but the version I have is a board book (for babies!) and I choose not to talk to my baby like she's an idiot with a rudimentary IQ.
The illustrations are also uninspired. They are neither colorful, nor interesting, nor beautiful. They look like a terrible textbook from the 80s.
Overall, these books are so boring that I have no interest in reading them. My daughter (now 1 yr old) is clearly unimpressed. She never selects them for me to read to her (as she does with other books) and she never sits and turns through the pages.
There must be other books out there that teach meaningful life lessons but come packaged in an artistic and clever book.
Sorry to be so negative but in my opinion, these books are boring and lame.

For Everyman?

Professor Berry, an distinguished research scientist and highly esteemed instructor at the University of Chicago has used the material of this book in courses for undergraduates in the humanities and social sciences. I believe that this indicates him to be an exceptionally charismatic instructor because this is a moderately rigorous text, doing an excellent job of introducing the subject to science majors. However, from my 33 years of teaching bright chemistry and humanities majors, I believe that it would be disastrous for anyone not devoted to science -- or enrolled in a course where he or she MUST conquer the material -- to be able to complete three chapters. Much more is required of the reader before he or she reaches the 170 page mark and begins to see glimmers of entropy and thermodynamics. An excellent book, but not for everyman.

A Badly Done Book

This book is one in a series to commemorate the centennial of Vauxhall Motors, but after having read it, one wonders how it ever saw print.

While it contains much good pictorial material, the accompany text and captions are so grossly erroneous that any reader who is even vaguely familiar with the marque will be deeply repulsed at the number of inaccuracies and mistakes made.

Quite how GM (who owns Vauxhall) could ever sanction the release of this work remains a mystery, but lends credence to the popularly held view that there are no employees in that organisation who has any passion about cars.

Buy this book only if you can afford to throw money away.

War and the Red Cross a disappointment

This brief, poorly written, 180 page monograph is hardly an indepth analysis of the ICRC role in the post-Cold War era. I expected a little more detail and a little more scholarship. I do not recommend it.
