A nice history of food fads in America.
Helpful Votes: 9 out of 9 total.

I enjoyed this book very much. The writer has a good grasp of both history and of science, and his individual chapters often culminate in hilarious accounts of faddism run riot. In addition, much of the folk wisdom we received as children turns out to be traceable to old fads. Most amusing is the story of JW Kellog.

Old MacDonald Had a Farm - The Musical
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2000-10-04
This beautifully illustrated version of Old MacDonald's farm is a night time favorite for both of my children, ages 4 and 2. Farmer MacDonald reaches into a chest in the barn to progressively equip the animals with musical instruments.

Each page has a new animal receiving an instrument while the others are playing in the background. Each page's text has a picture of the animal being featured. This allows my 2 year old to participate by calling out the animal as well as reading the E-I-E-I-O's. The page after the grand finale shows the farm at night which elicits the response "Night, night farm". The end of the book also includes information on the origins of the "Old MacDonald Had a Farm" song.

I have a fun time reading/singing this book, and the imaginative pictures are fun to look at as well.

I love Gooseberry Patch

First, let me say that I am a HUGE Gooseberry Patch fan. Currently I own six of their books: Slow Cooker Recipes, Best-Ever Casseroles, What's for Dinner?, Come on Over, One-Pot Meals and From Grandma's Kitchen. I just LOVE the books. The recipes are very easy, not too fancy, don't take long and always taste good. They are easy to read and the spiral binding keeps the books open flat. I think out of all of the books, I have only made one thing that I didn't care for. They are just great, great books to have around and I love the little tips on each page, the way that every book is broken up by meats and categories and just all of the other little helpful charts and equivalents that are in each book. In my opinion, they are just great additions to any cookbook collection and I love having them in my kitchen.

I have only made one thing out of this book so far (Yummy Peach Dessert) but it came out really well. I am looking forward to making other things as well. However, what I really like about this book is how they have it divided into cooking styles rather than meat...they have a section for pot/skillet/pressure cooking meals, oven meals, slow-cooker meals, microwave meals, grilled, dinner salads and a final dessert section. It's a really neat book and I am looking forward to working my way through it.

I would recommend it. I just can't give it five stars based on one recipe!

There are some good recipes but the book is very small. I would not buy it if I had seen it first.

Strong Characters take you for a wild ride
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2002-01-23
Mr. Berry creates characters that are well developed which propel the story line forward at a wonderful pace. This was a fascinating romp through the heartland of America and the dynamics between the classes. You are engrossed in the struggle of a promising talent trying to find himself and his purpose with the help of some very interesting people, while he battles his own demons, past and present. You want to take hold of this book, find a comfy place and immerse yourself in the story line. Hard to put down. Twists and turns keep the reader engaged and at times off balanced. A very enjoyable read.

This one truly proves the point that you don't need much space to enjoy gardening. Whether you have only a small windowsill or a somewhat larger area (a balcony, wall or small deck), you can make the most of that area, using the tips contained in this book...and the full-color photos show hundreds of creative and even intriguing ways to showcase your plants. The detailed directory to the 100 best plants for limited spaces and the step-by-step instructions make this one a winner.

An Introduction Easy to Understand

Review Date: 2008-01-23
This book is suitable for first steps in image processing. It is definitely a good thing that morphological operations are introduced without mathematical proofs and theorems. The enclosed software ImageJ is handy to understand the effects of certain image processing operations and to enhance interesting details in an image. For a developper of image processing algorithms this book alone would be too short, though.
