This is one of Joy Berry's "Survival Series for Kids" books and I have to confess that my son Devon and I like them all. I've had them in storage for years, way before Devon was a twinkle in my eye, or my gal Sara's, and I'm glad I saved them.

In this book Ms. Berry and illustrator Bartholomew, with your help, will teach your child the value of being careful. Your child will learn to be careful around electricity, gas, heat, fire, water, medications and other dangerous things, even clutter. They will learn to be careful at home and at school. He or she will learn not to accept rides from strangers, how to be careful riding a bike and even when swimming. Yes this is a book for a child bigger that a toddler, however my toddler and I like it just fine. Get 'em started early, that's my motto.

Though this book was written over twenty years ago, it still stands up. The excellent comic book type illustrations will keep your child interested as you read along with him or her. And for the life of me I don't know why these books are not easier to get. Joy Berry is good for children, that's my opinion and I'm sticking to it. If you can get a hold of her books and share them with your child, you'll both be better for it.

In this book Ms. Berry and illustrator Bartholomew, with your help, will tell your child why it's important to be good when they are not at home, while they are visiting, at school anyplace. It's important to be just as good at a friend's house when Mom and Dad are not there as it is when you are at home and they are watching. Though this book is for children a bit older than toddlers, my toddler and I like it just fine. Get 'em started early, that's my motto.

In this book Ms. Berry and illustrator Bartholomew, with your help will tell your child why it's important to be good. Ms. Berry will show your toddler, or slightly older child, why it is important to follow certain rules, both spoken and unspoken ones. Your child will learn why rules exist and some important reasons for having them.

I have to admit, because I'm the kind of person who doesn't like rules, that Ms. Berry has a point, rules are important for a child. Especially rules like don't go out in the street without holding Mom or Dad's hand. I teach my child rules, it's important he obey them, because they are important for his safety. When he gets older and can make his own mind up, then he can decide which ones to break and why, but for now rules are not made to be broken.

In this book Ms. Berry and illustrator Bartholomew, with your help of course, will show your toddler, or slightly older child, that it's important of be kind to their guests. That they should never ask someone to stay over, without asking Mom or Dad first. That they should never ask Mom or Dad in front of the other child, thus possibly embarrassing him or her. And especially that they should never be like Randy Rude, a rude little boy in the story who is not kind to his guests.

In this book Ms. Berry and illustrator Bartholomew, with your help, will teach your child the value of turning of that TV. Your child will learn that there is actually something more to life than television. It's amazing how many parents use television as a babysitter. Sara and I don't do that. We don't have an idiot box in our house. Our child is growing up with parents who attend to him all day long (thank God there are two of us). We play with him, teach him and read to him. And we read him all of the books in this delightful series. I cannot recommed them highly enough, each and every one of them, especially this book. Yes it's is a book for a child bigger that a toddler, however our toddler likes it just fine. Get 'em started early, that's my motto.

In this book Ms. Berry and illustrator Bartholomew, with your help, will teach your child how to act and how not to act at the table. Your child will learn a bit about table manners in kind of a humerous way. Actually watching our son Devon eat is kind of humorous. He's approaching three and we read this book to him a lot and even at his early age, it has helped him get more of his food in his mouth than around it. In fact the other day were were at a friend's and he used a fork and spoon just like an adult and actually didn't spill hardly anything, we were so proud. Maybe his manners still need a bit of help, but this book will be there to help us teach him as he grows a bit older.

In this book Ms. Berry and illustrator Bartholomew, with your help, will tell your child why it's important to get good grades. It also explains the difference between a written and verbal test and it explains that when you get the wrong answer on a test you are finding out something you need to learn. Also, your child will learn that if he does do poorly on a test that it is not the end of the world, it doesn't mean he is dumb, just that he should try a little harder next time. The book also explains the grading system used in most schools and that for sure makes it a book for children a bit older than toddlers, however my toddler and I like it just fine. Get 'em started early, that's my motto.

This is one of Joy Berry's "Survival Series for Kids" books and I have to confess that my son Devon and I like them all. I've had them in storage for years, way before Devon was a twinkle in my eye, or my gal Sara's, and I'm glad I saved them.

In this book Ms. Berry and illustrator Bartholomew, with your help, will teach your child a little about phone etiquette. I've got a toddler and you might wonder why this is important to me. Well, Sara has a cell phone and she seems to call every ten or fifteen minutes when she's not home and it's not me she wants to talk to. Devon charges for the phone, jumps up on a chair, grabs the phone off the hook, shouts, "Mom!" and I suppose that would be fine, if Mom were the only person to ever call our number. Anyway, he's learning and this book will help him as he gets a little older. Yes this is a book for a child bigger that a toddler, however my toddler and I like it just fine. I remember having the hardest time falling asleep when I was a kid, and this book helped a lot. It tells you how to relax, and actually what to do to fall asleep, not just a story about someone else falling asleep. This is a great book for that kid that just can't get to sleep.

Joy Says Turn off the Lights When You Leave the Room

In this book Ms. Berry and illustrator Bartholomew, with your help, will teach your child about why he or she should turn off the lights when they leave the room. Your child will learn a little about conservation and why it's important and let me tell you in these days of rising gas prices, electric bills, water bills and heating bills you can't get your child thinking about using less soon enough. Less can be good. Sara and I want our son Devon to grow up appreciating our green world, not abusing and using it, especially not needlessly. Wasting is bad and a child cannot learn that early enough. Yes this is a book for a child bigger that a toddler, however my toddler and I like it just fine. Get 'em started early, that's my motto.
