One of the most brilliant talents to utilize video (among other media), Tony Oursler is someone to pay attention to. This book, which accompanies a traveling exhibition that covers his work to date, makes a real contribution to the understanding of why he does what he does. It includes reviews written through the years by people who have followed him, as well as two in-depth interviews with this articulate, intelligent and thoughtful artist. Illustrations of everything from his earliest work to his drawings to stills from his video installations fill the book.

Oursler's work is not unlike a traffic accident: it can be horrifying, but it is so fascinating that one cannot look away. The work speaks to the anxiety of our age and the isolation we've created in our society.

This book is a big step to giving this artist the recognition he deserves. I highly recommend it.

Recently published by Kar-Ben, It's Challah Time is a wonderful photo-documentary of challah-baking by preschool children. The setting of the story is the preschool classroom itself. The children actively participate in adding the ingredients, mixing, kneading, rolling and braiding the home-made bread in the housekeeping area. As they wait for the challah to bake, they are pictured doing those things preschoolers do: reading in the book area and singing and dancing with the visiting Cantor. Finally, the challah is ready, the table is set, prayers are said. There's only one more thing to do...and by the looks on the faces of the children on both the front and back covers, the challah-baking experience is quite a success!
The photographs in this book are just wonderful. The children will love looking at the children their ages in a setting so similar to their own. I'm thinking I may need two copies of this book: one for story-telling and one for the housekeeping area itself. What a great reference for not only an actual challah-baking activity, but for a pretend one as well!

"It's Hanukkah Time" is a book that follows the preparations of a group of preschoolers who are getting ready for a Hanukkah party with their grandparents. It features numerous photographs of the children making invitations and gifts. It shows them hanging decorations and preparing traditional donuts (sufganiyot). The activities they participated in with their grandparents, such as dancing and reading stories, are also shown.

Nicholas liked looking at the pictures of the children and expressed that "they look like they are having fun." He really wants to make "some of those donuts." (The recipe is included in the book.) He now wants to make decorations for his house this Christmas and have a big party so people can take a lot of pictures and make a book.

"It's Hanukkah Time" is laid out more like a photo album instead of a storybook. I was unsure how children would react to it since they are used to illustrations instead of real photographs. However, I now think it helped to bring out his creative side since he saw that other children accomplished these tasks.

My kids (ages 6 and 7) both enjoyed me reading this book aloud. They learned alot by the end of the book about not only the Boston Tea Party but also what life was like for the colonists during the Revolutionary War period. Nice color pictures held my kids attention well.

I've read so much evangelical theology, branched out to mystical theology, then philosophy, to later, psychology. This has changed my life, as reading the great thoughts of others is the greatest virtue I have experienced. Yet with all this said, I have never read Jung. I picked up two Jung books, one an intense large volume of Jung's writings and am starting to embark in this journal. First reading Ruth Berry's "Beginner's Guide to Jung," has been so rewarding, mind expanding, deserving of 5 stars, for taking many of the deep concepts and explaining them in user friendly terms, that is, to begin one's journey into the mind of Jung. This is probably considered the "dark ages" of Oklahoma legal history, but yet an importatant one for any person with interests in the law should read.

Surprisingly, this was never discussed while I was a student in law school in Oklahoma, which was 20+ years after the events. When I learned of this legal history, I thought this was very significant as a member of the Oklahoma bar, and should be a "must-read." Regardless, it is an interesting story and well written.

Set in the busy port city of Sykia in that part of the Levant once called Ionia by the Greeks, this is a tale of romance and adventure, featuring an English lad named Tommie McAdams and his lover, the daughter of the local Pasha.

This title has the finest black-and-white pen illustrations that I have ever seen in any children's book about basketball.

This book is just what I was looking for. It has good tips for organic edible container gardening. The pictures are great and I am inspired to try lots of new things in containers this summer. I'm short on ground space, but I can fill some containers up!
