compliance handbookReview Date: 2001-05-11
Unlike many other handbooks, the authors clearly state their objectives in the first chapter, then proceed to carry out their plan. The book is organized into logical chapters with many divisions so not to overwhelm the reader. The writing style is clear and concise.
Admittedly, the authors explain the limitations of a book that only focuses on federal law, but there are plenty of state environmental law handbooks to fill any gaps. It is up to the user to find supplemental works that cover what this book does not.
All told, this book ought to be the standard in its field for years to come, at least until a new batch of environmental laws renders it obsolete.

This volume commences publication of a multivolume flora that is the first full scientific account of the plants of a botanically rich and geologically ancient part of northern South America, the Venezuelan Guayana. This area is dominated by massive table mountains, tepuis, that tower over surrounding rain forest and savannas and provide a wealth of habitats for nearly 10,000 species of vascular plants.
Volume 1 is a general introduction to the southeastern half of Venezuela that encompasses the flora area, with chapters on geography, history of botanical exploration, vegetation types, endemism, and conservation. Keys to the families of seed plants are also provided. Volume 2 begins the alphabetical sequence of family treatments, first within the ferns and their allies, then followed by the initial 11 families of seed plants. Keys, descriptions, and illustrations of more than half the species treated - a feature rarely found in floras of even more familiar areas - make this work an enduring reference that will be useful far beyond the borders of the region now carefully documented. Nine volumes are anticipated for publication of the complete flora.
More than 180 botanists from around the world have collaborated on this project, which is based at the Missouri Botanical Garden.

Must Reading For All Calling Themselves ChristiansReview Date: 2002-10-20
Many of the accounts of martyrs in this book, such as Master John Hooper who was "very slowly" burned to death, will leave an indelible impression on your mind for many days or weeks after you read the gruesome details of the his earthly demise. Another man, Charles Hadden Spurgeon, more eloquently put it this way;
"The Inquisition was the masterpiece of infernal craft and malice, and its deeds were far more worthy of fiends than men. If the church of Rome could at this moment...become a pure community, ten thousand years of immaculate holiness and self-denying philanthropy could not avail to blot out the remembrance of the enormous crimes with which the Inquisition has loaded it. There is a deep and indelible sentence of damnation written upon the apostate church by avenging justice...registered in heaven; nor can any pretence to present liberality reverse the condemnation...its infamy is engraved in rock for ever. [The Roman Catholic Church] wallowed so greedily in oppression, torture, and murder in her palmy days, that the foam of human gore hangs around her wolfish fangs, and men will not believe her to be a gentle lamb, let her bleat as she may."
ALL that call themselves CHRISTIANS should own and read this book!
