A Child Should Always be Careful

This is one of Joy Berry's "Survival Series for Kids" books and I have to confess that my son Devon and I like them all. I've had them in storage for years, way before Devon was a twinkle in my eye, or my gal Sara's, and I'm glad I saved them.

In this book Ms. Berry and illustrator Bartholomew, with your help, will teach your child the value of being careful. Your child will learn to be careful around electricity, gas, heat, fire, water, medications and other dangerous things, even clutter. They will learn to be careful at home and at school. He or she will learn not to accept rides from strangers, how to be careful riding a bike and even when swimming. Yes this is a book for a child bigger that a toddler, however my toddler and I like it just fine. Get 'em started early, that's my motto.

Though this book was written over twenty years ago, it still stands up. The excellent comic book type illustrations will keep your child interested as you read along with him or her. And for the life of me I don't know why these books are not easier to get. Joy Berry is good for children, that's my opinion and I'm sticking to it. If you can get a hold of her books and share them with your child, you'll both be better for it.

An Excellent Book for a Toddler to Grow Up With
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2005-04-30
This children's book by Joy Berry is short, to the point and has excellent comic book type illustrations that will catch any toddler's eye. The book opens with little blonde and very selfish Katie not wanting to share her toys with red-headed Sam. Your toddler will learn right off the bat that other children do not like playing with selfish kids, because selfish kids care more about themselves than they do others.

You'll be asking your toddler as you read along how he or she feels and thinks about selfish children. Do they feel left out? Do they feel angry? Your toddler will get the picture pretty fast that selfish is just not the way to be.

And to reinforce the don't be selfish theme, the second half of the books shows Sam playing with his new friend, Tami. Unlike Katie, Sam is not selfish and he and Tami enjoy themselves playing while Katie is obviously left out, because nobody like a selfish little girl, or boy.

Ms. Berry's books are all delightful and it's a puzzle to me why they are so hard to get. One would think that this is the kind of book every toddler should grow up with. I'm glad I have them and my son Devon is too.

born to the country she wrote about; Martha's poetry expresses an intimate knowledge and spirituality of the beauty surrounding her. She wrote about life in a time when it was just as complicated as today. Relatively unknown in her own time; she is every bit the equal of Emily Dickinson! Rare to even find this book in Publication. Originally published 1888.

This book gives general information about a various different selections of nuts, seeds, and berries. It is wonderful, my 8 year old sister found it to be quite fun and learned much from it. This book would be great for any child wanting to learn and have fun. I would suggest it for ages 5-11

I own this and all the Country Garden series of cookbooks. They are all visually gorgeous, and all written by professional chefs. Each book surrounds a featured ingredient which is seasonal. I must admit that many of the recipes could be considered "chi-chi," but for cookbook collectors, this series is really wonderful. I'm sorry they stopped adding to these books, and very sorry that they are going out of print.

Luscious pictures, delicious recipes

This is a very thorough book, so there are berries here that you might not know about. There's a separate section for each of 18 different kinds of edible berries. Each section has its own recipes. And there are 13 sections about inedible, ornamental berries.

Plus, there is ample information about designing, planting and cultivating a berry garden, and preserving, drying and storing berries. Also, there's ample information about finding and harvesting wild berries and finding sources concerning berries.

Buy this book and you'll know your berries.

Aliene is a former classmate of mine, so I wanted to read her book. I am a first grade teacher, and am looking forward to sharing this book with children. It not only has engaging language, but also a great deal of information that can be integrated into our science curriculum. Well done, Aliene!!

I was so thrilled to see some old characters coming back instead of all these new and revamped ones! SG & PP look just as they did when us 30-somethings were young, and it's a trip to be able to give my daughter a book with these characters in it! We can't WAIT for the movie!
