Being an Administrative Assistant I can identify a lot with some of the job situations Bonnie Indermill finds herself in. It's fun to read a book where the main character does the same kind of work you do. Carole Berry's books are the greatest in that they offer humor and a good mystery at the same time. I don't even have to read what the book is about, if it was written by Carole Berry then you know you are in for an enjoyable time. I would highly recommend all of her books.

This is a marvelous, light-hearted mystery involving Bonnie Indermill, the "temp". I love Bonnie's sense of humor, the problems with her brother and sister-in-law and the men in her life, which just spices up a juicy tale of murder in a Manhattan office, with plenty of suspects to go around. I have read a number of Bonnie Indermill mysteries, but this is, by far, the best. I hope Carole Berry has a new one coming out soon. I look forward to it.

Appreciating these two artistic geniuses requires at least a modicum of a fine artist mentality. However, if you possess the teachings and/or the mere exposure to such passionate art, this collection of outstanding work will ignite and inspire you at the most basic level. So when's Braid coming out, guys? ;) Bout time you updated your website too. ;P

Double Memory is an eccentric, eclectic collection by a pair of artists renowned for bringing fine art sensibilities to genre illustration. Both Berry and Hale have honed their skills since the publication of this book, so Double Memory should be considered an introduction to their work rather than a statement about their careers. But there are some wonderful pieces included in this book: Berry's paintings for Peter Straub's Mrs. God are real knockouts while Hale's manic Johnny Badhair canvases are simply amazing. Truly a wonderful collection.

Although I consider myself an intermediate level gardener, I'm always looking for ways to improve - and this book was full of them. It is well organized and layed out, not to mention surprisingly comprehensive covering everything from composting to container gardening. It's a great reference book and worth buying if for nothing else than the seasonal planning guide on pages 215 and 216. I couldn't reccomend it enough to someone interested in making the most of his outdoor living space.

I am not sure why no one has reviewed this book but this book is wonderful if you're a beginner in gardening. I had no knowledge of gardening before I read this book so I can attest that I have much more knowledge on everything from planning a garden to garden maintenance. There is a great section on all the different plants that you might run across. Overall a great book for the beginner gardener.

My most often used book on anger for children

This book, like all of the books in the series, is written from the pet's point of view. Max the dog observes all different types of situations that cause his owner, Maria, to feel mad. He also cautions against certain reactions, and then gives page after page of possible ideas kids can try when they're feeling angry. Each page allows easy discussion to develop between you and the child, in which you can bring in details and examples from your child's life. I have read this book to preschool classrooms and in therapy with young children, with great response. The illustrations are super--the children can "read" it back to me after hearing it, just by following the illustrations. It's just the right length, too. Not too short to be useless, and not so long as to lose the child's interest,

great tool for teaching kids about feelings

I found this book and the whole "Let's Talk About" series an excellent way to teach my daughter (2 1/2 y.o.) how to express her feelings. I like the fact that the characters are real kids, not silly animals or Disney characters. The drawings are great for showing kids how to express anger, their confusion about feelings, and how to feel better afterwards. It's definitely worked wonders for my daughter.

For those who are looking at branching into the world of art. This book is an excellent primer for some of the better quality work which is no longer around today. If you like this time period you can try other illustrators like Trina Schart Hyman, Edward-Burne Jones, or Alphonse Mucha. While all of Barker's artwork is not on this level, this book is and makes enjoyable eye-candy for the artist or artist-at-heart.

This is a lovely and engaging, child-sized book, and my 5 year old daughter and 3 year old son were both engrossed for an entire reading, I think due equally to the detailed child-fairy characters and the focus on plants and nature. They were also quite pleased to note the garments on the fairies and elves that echo the features of the plants. I love it for the wonderful artwork ~ particularly the fairies that look most like my children :)

A don't-miss for the meta-crowd
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2006-02-25
A demanding but terrific read about the worst case of anxiety of influence in the history of the universe. A story surrounding a story surrounding a story, all of them monsters, labors under a plot created by...Gothic...precursors...who just will not go away. In this world, there's nothing new under the sun, and a swampful of writers get written, and bitten, by bugs. It's funny, smart, funny, literate, funny, challenging, and-did I mention that it's funny? Metafiction meets Henny Youngman meets Mary Shelley-this novel is aware of itself, aware of its legacy, and aware of the ways culture does dictation. Frankly, the script R. M. Berry records is, like its precursor, one for the ages.

beyond deconstruction

What a joy to read -- alternately funny, sad, intelligent, WICKED. In a way this novel is a classic deconstruction of Mary S's brilliant but youthful novel; but it is much more than that, since (I think) it takes on language itself as a topic. How it makes us even as we think we are using it and mastering it. I was also really turned on by the history elements, about race and class, and I actually cried a couple of times, WAY out of the ordinary for me reading a novel. Most contemporary best selling and mainstream novels are BORING and DONE TO DEATH. This is definately something different. CHIASMUS is doing things differently. I bought another of this authors books and was not disappointed.

This book is great for beginners. I have no decorative painting experience at all, only a burning desire! This book is fun to use, and I was successfull quickly. I particularly like the designs that are supplied to copy and trace, and the great ideas for wood projects! I highly recommend this book if your interested in learning how to paint fruits and vegetables. I have found a new relaxing way to deal with stress!

We do not have a great selection of decorative painting books here in Switzerland so I have to order mine, mostly sight unseen, abroad, and sometimes I am very disappointed. What a delight to receive this one. I keep looking at it over and over again and it has given me so many ideas. I am not an experienced painter but a very enthusiastic one and I find Prudy's projects to be both interesting, inspiring and very well explained. Prudy, could you please do another book very soon.

This book should be read to all children

This book is a wonderful introduction into the scary prospect of going to the doctor. The author was challenged to write this book by a six year old child named Max.

Brazelton does an excellent job in talking to the child and not at the child. It is written in clear and easy to understand language. The author has the ability of communicating with children and making them feel comfortable.

The drawings are wonderful insights into a child's apprehension of visiting the doctor. The illustrations happen to be done by Brazelton's oldest grandson.

The Afterword for Parents is something that every parent should read. I liked how Brazelton emphasized the need for parents to prepare their children for all medical events. He cites his research done at the Children's Hospital in Boston that children who were prepared for surgery by their parents recovered significantly better than the parents who did not prepare their children. He emphasizes that children should also be prepared about their trip to the doctor.

Brazelton's aim is at trying to make the trip to a doctor less stressful for the child. He definitely suceeds with his intentions.

Great! I wish this book had been around when I was a kid.

I think that this book would be great for children. It helps to minimize some of the fears that they may have about going for a visit to the doctor. It's easy to read and it's written in a way that can be easily followed by a child. I especially liked the way in which privacy was addressed and the Afterward for Parents section. I'd recommend it to anyone with children. I wish it had been around when mine where young, in fact I wish it had been around when I was young. Maybe then I wouldn't have felt so bad about going to the doctor.

This book truly is a delight. I could easily imagine being there and experiencing the hardships as well as the precious memories Nell exerienced throughout her life. I was captured by the love of the family members, although not show physically, it was an awesome and strong bond. It seemed to enable them to face the hardships and enjoy the good times all the more. I would highly recommend this book. It is a refreshing glimpse into ordinary lives that were lived in extraordinary times.

It always warms my soul to read stories of true life experiences told from the heart of those who lived them. In this work by author Nell M. Berry I was privileged to share the memories of her youth and her beloved family during his growing up years in Missouri.
Told in refreshing simplicity, the author shares numerous happenings of her childhood and the meaning and impact they had upon her life. Raised during the depression area, Ms Berry relates the hardships her family endured, but also shows the spirit of unity of family to survive through hard times. In this work, she communicates to the reader the commitment of friends, the importance of love, and the appreciation of the smallest blessings.
I found this book to be truly heart-felt in it's meaning. A sharing of an era perhaps forgotten by many, never known by some, yet one that is etched in the portals of time. A book about days of yesteryear that have helped fashion the world we live in.

This book has it all. Maps, history, weapons, organizational charts, slang, traditions, characters, special forces, citations, orders, military justice, battle dress, drop ships, operational procedures... (deep breath). Even if you know nothing about the military, you can read this book, and run a campaign that'll leave your players thinking you're a retired SgtMaj.
So there I was...
