For anyone looking to spice up their abode with the perfect piece of accent hardware, this book has it all. Like a woman wearing the right jewelry, a house can be embellished with hardware, and this book gives all kinds of ideas and examples from antique to modern. It's really a must-have resourse for a potentially expensive investment decision. You'll never take hardware for granted again!

A Remarkable Life

Review Date: 2002-06-25
Amanda Smith began her life as a slave. She later became a very successful evangelist, preaching to both black and white audiences all over the United States, as well as in England, Liberia and Africa. Fame on that scale in that field would, of course, be rare for an African-American woman even in today's society. In the face of the social obstacles she faced in the late 19th century it was surely nothing short of miraculous.

Her autobiography is, of course a real autobiography. They didn't often have "ghostwriters" in those days. Her style of writing is easy to read but intelligent, articulate and piercingly insightful.

She writes about encounters with racism, sexism and class distinctions among African-Americans with a rare combination of uncompromising integrity, wisdom, humor, tact and graciousness. She writes about holiness and theological issues within the context of her own personal experience with God in a way that is compelling and inspirational.

The autobiography of Amanda Smith is a remarkable telling of a remarkable life. She is an undiscovered American treasure. Her book ought to be a perennial bestseller.

Amanda Smith - A True Servant Of The Lord Jesus Christ

I just finished reading the biography of Amanda Smith. I found this book to be a faith building testimony of God's faithfulness and sufficiency, to all who will only trust Him both for spiritual and temporal provision. In today's complicated secular society and even in the organized church, Amanda Smith's testimony rises up in a refreshing way to glorify the Lord and teaches us that God's ways are still pure and simple, easy for anyone to understand and full of goodness and mercy, if only we would humble ourselves to hear what the Lord is saying to us, in His Word, the Bible. I recommend this book to anyone who wants a closer walk with Jesus.

Outdoor Emotion

Joshua Berry writes a story that tugs at the heartstrings. As his magnificent descriptions shortly have the reader standing in a beautiful place with only the rushing Madison River and the calling of large birds for sound, two close friends begin fishing for Rainbow.

I won't reveal the plot, but as the story progresses, the reader is treated to more magnificent natural beauty as well as emotions that before the story is over pretty much run the gamut from heavenly solace and peace to grief and despair.

This is a story of the peace, tranquility and rejuvenation a person can achieve out in Nature...of the power of close friendship to assist in life's worse crises...of the joy in the simple things that so many of us overlook. Joshua Berry has written both and inspiring and edifying work, and I plan to read much more by him.

Five Stars... John W. Cassell

For a description of a city boy meeting the wilderness and the effect it has on him, see the Pecos Wilderness sequences in Odyssey: 1970. I cannot do justice to describing the sights and sounds as Joshua can, but the story clearly shows the kind of peace he alludes to in "Baited".

GREAT FRIENDS...GREAT SETTING!

This is a great story about true friendship, so great in fact you just know Joshua Berry is a good friend to others.

The thing I loved most, though, was Joshua's descriptions of the natural setting for this story. I just got back to my home town of Cicero and while I'm glad I'm back, I miss feeling at one with the rugged natural beauty I worked around for the past quarter century.

Joshua brought it all back. Thanks!

Excellent continuation of the previous novel in the series, The Biofab War. Steve does an excellent job of making me pick up a dictionary again and again. Filled in a lot of holes for me to references in earlier and later novels in this series. Funny how that works. Now I know what the AI's meant by a flaming green hell. Check it out if you can find a copy. I have several. Email Tom Doherty guy at TOR books and ask for a reprint. Here is his address: inquiries@tor.com

My son is 2 yrs. old. He absolutely loved this book. He carried it around for days. Even though it says the reading level is higher we can make it all the way through it at least once. The pages are very brightly colored and inviting. My son has a blast trying to find all the flaps to lift.

Our 2 year old niece is getting Bear's Berry Christmas book from us this Christmas. Bear and his friends are already favorites of hers, and this book brings a seasonal adventure to life for her to learn and enjoy. She loves interactive books and will eagerly anticipate what she will find underneath each flap -- and this book contains 52 flaps! It combines holiday traditions with a lesson of the real spirit of Christmas. Bear, Teelo, Ojo, Pip & Pop decorate the tree, wrap gifts, bake cookies and share the importance of spending time with old friends and giving to others. I don't know if a 2 year old will get all of the lessons out of this book, but I do know that Kelsey will read it over and over and each time learn something new. This is a great interactive book with sturdy cardboard pages to last for years to come.

...once I finish it. I'm not even half way through with it, and I've gained so much from it. As always, a book written with scriptural references is a plus, as this one is. All of the things one with low self-esteem may have been told before lie in this book, and once read make such an impact, rather than "going in one ear and out the other" like things told to us by relatives can tend to do. This author can compare in wisdom and talent to male authors such as Phillip Yancey and Max Lucado. even if you've got a lot of self esteem, reading this book still might benefit you. Go for it!

If you think you don't have low self-esteem, guess what you do. Ms. Berry helps you to realize not matter where you come from or your accomplishments we all feel a sense of falling short or emptiness. She uses basic principles (from taking care of yourself, make-up, clothing)to help you to see your self from God's perspective. Ms. Berry also shares her own personal story of how when her husband passed away she lost the one person who always encouraged her, and thought the world of her. Through her husband's eyes she was able to glimpse God's opinion of her.

I have passed this book on to numerous people! All these women have been transformed in their thinking. It is worth your time to check this out.

If you are a lover of berries of all types, as I am, then I believe you won't be disappointed if you buy this book. At this price, it is a steal for the enjoyment you will receive from it. It is printed on lovely paper with wonderful illustrations and it would make a great gift as well. I am pleased with this purchase.

This isn't just another cookbook nor is it a gardener's guide: BERRIES is instead a lovely culinary history of usage which focuses on 'neglected' berries which have all but vanished from American tastes, as well as common berries which were often used as additives to such unlikely items as Dr. Pepper soda. From native currants to historic uses and more, BERRIES is a wonderfully different survey offering fine history and insights on many elusive fruits.

Berry Useful Gardening Book!

Review Date: 2006-11-25
"Berry Best Gardening Book" is a surprisingly detailed, useful and fun gardening book. This book has everything in it from tulips to creating a special garden for butterflies.

As mentioned, this book has a story running throughout it. Strawberry and her friends plant their very own friendship garden. Each part of the story correspond with what's being talked about in the instructional information about gardening.

Kids learn about how to take care of plants. This book talks about gardening tools, what the right amount of water is for different types of plants and more. It also has a surprising variety of flowers and plants.

Strongly recommended for any Strawberry Shortcake fun or anyone who just wants a berry fun introduction to gardening!

Easily the best field guide to berries available. Cheap too. I am now using my fourth copy of this extremely useful little booklet: previous copies lost or "loaned". Others in the Nature Study Guide series are good but none live up to the high quality of this one.
