The best technique available for country risk
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2000-06-14
This is a wonderful book written on a difficult subject. The author is clearly in favour of an objective quantitative tool that can be used for assessing the risk for any country.

The technique advocated by Clark and Marois is based on a real option pricing model borrowing quantitative well-known techniques from the derivatives field. Their approach is shown in the book to be superior to other methods used in the real world by some respectable institutions and you are left wondering why not everybody is applying the new approach revealed in this book.

The book is far superior and more advanced than other more known titles in the field and it can be used by practitioners in the banks and financial institutions dealing with political risk and country rating, governmental specialists interested in identifying more rigorous tools for evaluating the national position vis-a-vis the rest of the world and by postgraduate and MBA students that can learn how to apply the real option technique and develop it further.

In conclusion it is a unique book in this area and I strongly recommended to those interested in risk management.

I have enjoyed Bernard Knight's Crowner John Mysteries and could not wait for this latest in the series to come out in paper back. I pre-ordered it and it arrived late June. I was going to try and hold back so that I could savor his writing, but proved weak. And, am I glad I was. The Manor of Death, not unlike Michael Jecks' series, is more complex than previous works in the series. It also holds considerable surprises for those who enjoy Knight's fiction and non-fiction. Thank You Bernard for a Great Read!

A Santa Clara University "California Legacy Books", Mark Twain's San Francisco: Being A Generous And Uninhibited cornucopia Of Reports, Speculations, Satires, Brickbats, Musings, Topical Verse, And Other Observations by the legendary American author Samuel Clemens (known world wide by his pen name of "Mark Twain") collects anecdotes, insights, commentary, poems, and legacy of this great man and beloved author. Each writing is a few pages in length at most; all are from Twain's work for any San Francisco newspaper or journal that would pay him for his free-lance writings, from 1863 to 1866. Ably edited by journalism professor Bernard Taper, ans illustrated with rarely seen cartoons from the same era by Edward Jump, Mark Twain's San Francisco is enthusiastically recommended for literary collections featuring the work of this great American.

One of the first books my 2 year old daughter "read"

One day I was changing my then 20 month old's diaper, and she started signing "Mary had a little lamb..." - I was shocked! It took her a while to start talking, and I think the singing really helped. She regularly wants us to sing-read this book to her, knows if we miss a page or a verse, and loves the part where the lamb says "BAAAAAA". She loves other books in this series, too (Skip to My Lou, Eensy Weensy Spider). The illustrations are cute, and the rhyming is great to help build verbal skills!

Five Minute Thrillers from a teacher's point of view

These little books are excellent for readers functioning as low as third grade in a middle school setting. They are high interest with a variety of settings that will be enjoyed by both boys and girls. Their surprise and thought provoking endings led this teacher's mind in all directions for "extending the lesson" through writing or discussion. Students introduced to these thrillers will ask to have silent reading time.

the military and military history from perspective of objects and artifacts
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2005-08-30
This work is a part of the series named "Artefacts" associated with London's Science Museum, whose editors "encourage authors to use objects as evidence for their studies of the history of science and technology." The eleven chapters of this volume were written by authors from universities and museums. The topics vary widely, from 15th-century Valois Burgundian artillery, World War I U.S. women's uniforms, the display of arms in museums, artifacts of the German occupation of Britain's Channel Islands in WWII, to the use and image of U.S. submarines in the Cold War. The essays get at what can be learned about the respective military forces of the time and also what can be learned about the relationship between such forces and the society of which they were a part.

As an artist who loves to paint and cook, this book really captures everything that i possible would love to take me to the south of france. Its beautiful colaboration of matisse paintings and tastes of recipes, really inspires one to want to paint a colourful table for dining. The recipes aren't exactly the normal cuisine you would desire to serve everyday however the colours and textures of foods play with those in his decorative work. Its just quite an inspirational book for those who love to master a composition like matisse did - my husband bought this book for me just because he knew i love matisse and i love to cook. Its a colourful book which you want to pick up and flip through just to take you to another place another time affecting all your senses and memories. Enjoy!
