Written for interior design course classroom use, this book explains the concepts of lighting using everyday terms rather than engineering jargon. The calculations and formulas have been simplified but still provide reliable forecasting of light levels. There is a discussion of the various types of lighting available, their costs, and other economic aspects.

A Tale of Welsh Love and Pride
Helpful Votes: 7 out of 7 total.
Review Date: 2007-02-07
Professor Bernard Knight, CBE, became a Home Office Pathologist in 1965 and was appointed Professor of Forensic Pathology, University of Wales College of Medicine, in 1980. He has written many historical novels, primarily the Crowner John series of books. I really enjoyed all of those books and I have I think reviewed all of them.

This book is set at an earlier period in history and is the true story of Princess nest and the Lord Owain ap Cadwgan, Prince of Powys. It takes place in the years after the Conqueror's Norman invasion of England and the subsequent death of Harold at the Battle of Hastings.

It is a poignant and swift moving tale of love, lust and treachery and brings to life a period of Welsh history in the 12th century. The author's research and knowledge of the period he writes about are always impeccable and told in such a way that they become of great interest to the reader.

[This course book is based on the following principle: the quality of learning is improved if the learners learn by doing something and have fun learning.

Haggin as a music writer, is like Mozart as a composer.
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2000-12-10
Mr. Haggin was a rare case of an art writer who did not write as a "professional". He had real passion! He hated mediocrity.

I recommend this book to anyone who loves music, music by Hayden, Mozart and Beethoven. I also recommend all of his other writings.

This book contains a comprehensive reference to all the great composers and great music works in the western music tradition, as seem by Mr. Haggin, with brief comments. With this book at hand, you will not miss anything.

Another book by Mr. Haggin's, Music For Those Who Enjoys Hamlet, introduces a small sample of great music works in greater detail.

powerful exegesis of Therese

This is the most unforgettable and profound "reading" of St. Therese that I ever encountered. I value many of the other books about her, but this one shows new depths and beauty. I read this several years ago, and immediately wrote to Paul McPartlan to thank him for his part in it. He wrote back to me from England, continuing the rare spirit of this great little book by Bernard Bro. I bought several copies after I first read it; I hope it comes back into print.

Kenneth Melchin's book is an excellent introduction to Ethics and to the method elaborated by Bernard Lonergan. For those who are interested in an "inside-out" approach to ethics, starting with one's self, this is the book to buy.
You will gain insights into not only your own moral foundations, but will also understand the patterns and habits that make up our social realm.
Original, readable, thought provoking, what more could one ask for!

This guidebook was crucial to my few days in Brussels. I used this compact and user-friendly book to plan my trip. I found all the information accurate and interesting. All the highlights, and some quirky sights, were covered. Most importantly, its portable size and built-in maps made finding my way around so easy. However, as a disclaimer, it is the Best of Brussels. If you are looking for an in-depth book, this one isn't for you.

Nostalgic Articles on Guyanese and Caribbean Life
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 1999-10-26
Reminisce with Caribbean Radio, Georgetown street characters, the cinema, dance halls, rum shops, jumbies, the pork-knocker, Christmas, folk songs, cricket, superstition, and much more. These nostalgic articles are precious momentoes that give enjoyment and insight, the more often you read them. Heydorn's research is rich in detail and has significant historical and educational value. It is based on the creole proverb that "nah everything scholar know, he learn from teacher". - Geoffrey Da Silva, Consul General, Republic of Guyana. Bernard's reminiscence of our heritage embody many fond memories with humour and charm, in a warm and fundamental way - Barbara Ferreira, Guyanese/Canadian. Bernard Heydorn's vivid, rich recollections have been a hit with our readers - Sharief Khan, Editor, Guyana Chronicle
