A Powerful Story and Timely!

Bernard Milton's DIRTY RIVER forces you out of complacency right from the start and thrusts you into a fascinating mix between
well-considered historical and geopolitical intrigue and pure guts and bullets lawman thriller. If you're a fan of the works
of Lee Child, Keith Ablow, and to some degree Dennis Lehane, you'll want to pick up this book.
This book is so well rendered, and by a former officer on the US Border Patrol, that you will feel the truth ringing from the strong, fast-paced fiction. Every description is a mouthwatering Mexican dish, fused with a hard-boiled style that will keep you sneering and learning Mexican curse words for hours.
On top of all this, it is timely, with regards to current 2006 immigration debates. Milton's book has something to say in that regard as well.
A great book, and PERFECT for beach season.

Even the non - professional (biology, health care professions) might like having this added to their library. While one may
have studied anatomy and physiology (A&P), they may have missed some of the interesting history that went into the subject.
Dr. Knight provides this history and writes well as he does whether it be in a text book or murder mystery.

I like this book very much. Basic theories are presented in a very concise and clear way. However, it may not be good for
the first time introduction study.

In 1973, I made a trip to Washington, D.C. This book was great research material. Not only did it tell me about places to
visit, but the maps and pictures of the buildings made me very familiar with the city, and what was where. I was able to name
the buildings when I was in the city. People stopped and asked me for directions. Now, I have a friend who is going to D.C.,
and I am buying this book for her, and I hope it is as valuable to to prepare herfor her trip as it was to me.

A Most Profound Investigation of Thomistic Metaphysics

Review Date: 2004-12-29
I just finished reading this book, and I was so impressed by the profound metaphysical insight of the author that I had to
advertise it here. The Dominican priest who wrote this work achieved something particularly useful, especially in the climate
of "existential thomism" that is dominant in some quarters. I confess that I myself was for a long time under the influence
of this school of thought, not without some real benefit. However, I have grown disenchanted with the dead end of the quasi-mystical
worship of "esse" and the fruitless tirades against "essentialism." I think that the recent translation of this 43-year old
work from the French is a timely contribution to the thomistic movement.
Montagne delves deeply into the metaphysical question of the "analogy of being" and traces the development of Saint Thomas' doctrine over his writing career. He concludes that the proper way to interpret Aquinas' doctrine is to understand it as an "analogy of relation" (sometimes called the "analogy of intrinsic attribution") not as the "analogy of proportion" favored by Cajetan. Now there is no shortage of those who are ready to criticize Cajetan on behalf of Saint Thomas, and one suspects that the behavior has been over-indulged in order to prove one's (existential) thomistic credentials. Most of these criticisms are rather shallow, however, and take one into blind alleys. They are even polemical to the point of rudeness. Ralph McInerny's book on analogy, for example, manages to be both. Montagne, however, couples a deep capacity for metaphysical reflection with that gentleness which is the offspring of a true love of truth.
It would be impossible to summarize the work without doing Montagnes an injustice. So I will not attempt to do so. Those who appreciate this review will likely appreciate the book as well. I do however want to note one deficiency, not in the work itself, but in the translation. There are a reasonable number of instances in which typing errors occur and prepositions are left out. They do not hinder the overall understanding of the work, but they are an annoyance. It is surprising that in an age of word processors such things can be allowed to happen on so large a scale. The proof-reading was evidently sloppy and it detracts from what is otherwise a very professional work.

the poetry in the first two volumes by Kurt Miles are amazing to say the least. He has experienced a lot in his life and has
put down in print much that can be taken and applied to our own lives either for introspection or self-improvement.

this book was great. I enjoyed it all the way through. I could hardly put it down. A touching read. Very interesting.
Strongly advised by me for my teenage friends. Loved every part of it. A good deal to buy or borrow. Gripping action the
whole way!
