Waterloo may be recalled as a military defeat rather than just a battle, but years after the war, relics remain to prove otherwise; so it's surprising that no other survey has seen fit to examine and focus on these remainders more closely - not until WATERLOO RELICS, that is. From uniform buttons to broken metal and cartridge cases, history is re-created using a blend of artistic vivid color paintings, pieces of archaeological evidence, and brilliant quotes from descriptions of Waterloo battle history. Any with even a passing interest in Waterloo must not miss this!

A MUST HAVE FOR RELIC COLLECTORS!

The title says it all, "Waterloo Relics"! I doubt if any battle campaign prior to WWII has been covered more than Waterloo, but seldom is there an illustration given to the equipment used, and the relics found from the Waterloo Campaign.

As a casual collector of such, I found this an essential addition to my library. The author pulls together illustrations, equipment, relics, and pictures of the battlefield into one pioneering effort with this splendid work.

The illustrations are virtually all in brilliant color, nicely sized, and of superb quality. The captions are well done, as are the introductions to each chapter with overviews of the specific aspects of the campaign.

The laminated hard cover is much appreciated, as I'm personally tired of damaging my dustcovers, or the effort to keep them in good shape.

The definitive work on the subject? No, but it is a darn good read, fun to pick up and take off wherever the page lands, and a feast for the eyes. I hope the authors will add more volumes to this work.

A rare gem

This is one of a very small number of esoteric rune books that contain credible researched information about the runes and their history. King is a Heathen and writes with great respect for the Northern traditions. Unlike the majority of New-Age authors, he has gone to the academic sources.

The first half of the book covers the historical information in quite a bit of depth. The second half covers practical techniques of divination and other uses. Although the very last chapters are necessarily speculative, he makes no unfounded claims about historical rune use.

I would recommend this as one of the few books I would give as an introduction to someone interested in learning about the esoteric side of the runes.

The Rune Primer

Good First Book on the Runes

This book is a superb first book in the study of the runes. The information is presented in a orderly and very readable manner.

Bernard King presents an excellent level of research on rune traditions, divination, and spiritual work. His work is firmly based on the historical and archaeological research in the field, not on new-age mixtures of ceremonial magic and wicca. You will get the straight story from his book!

I completely agree with the reviewer of 6/14/05. I'm also a high school theology teacher. This book is outstanding - a great introduction to Lonergan. It's also a good overview of some key points in the history of philosophy, and of western culture in general. It's easy to read (though I found the chapter "The Idea of God" hard to follow). Lots of good stuff for teaching, and for self-discovery as well.

An Excellent Introduction

As a religion teacher in a Catholic high school I often find myself trying to present complicated theological or philosophical ideas to my students in a way they can understand. I strongly believe that Lonergan's 'Insight' provides the most adequate understanding of human understanding. Communicating this to my students is always a priority, because an inadequate epistemology and metaphysics can seriously impair our judgment when evaluating truth claims (religious or otherwise).

But it's not always easy to determine how much has to be explained to people without a background in philosophy. So I got this book, hoping it might help me out. Not only did it help me understand how to explain Lonergan to high school students, it helped me understand Lonergan better myself. I wasn't expecting that!

This book is very easy to understand, but I have found that even someone who already has a strong grasp of Lonergan can benefit from it.

Graham shares a very unique experience in his life . An experience that ultimately changes his entire perception of reality as we know it. This book may not be meant for everyone, but for the seekers of knowledge and truth, it is definitely a book to read and share with other enlightened souls.

This is a fabulous book for any F>L>W> collecter. It has many black and white photos which add a nostalgic feel to the book. This is the first book of many I own about Wright to show the beautiful Gertrude and Rose Pauson House. It burned to the ground. I only wish he'd put more in the book, since he did a story for a magazine about the home. This is a Must Have!!!

If you've every thought you had it in you to write your life's story, this is the book for you. Clearly written, "Writing from Within" outlines a powerful technique for anyone to "get at" important feeling, thoughts, and memories that are in the past."Write in the present tense. Write in first person. Put feelings into the story." These are some of the suggestions Bernard Selling proposes to make your writing come alive. This is a valuable book.It is highly recommended.

I own the 2d edition of this book, and it's the best book I've ever seen on the subject. It is sensitively written to guide and inspire an ordinary person in pursuit of a story, and the sories used as examples are excellent - much better than most, yet written by students. Had this book been in print when I started teaching writing, I would not have begun my own (soon to be published) book, "Writing the Stories of Your Life."

I was impressed with the writing and the range of literary knowledge (as a professor of English, I am familiar with a range of writing skills). But more important was the clarity of the instruction; in detail, examples, and demonstrations, it is a wonderful tool for writers. The interviews are excellent--particularly the one with Larry Gelbart.

Trying to teach somebody how to be funny is like trying to teach somebody how to be TALL. You can't. I dare you. The great thing about Ian Bernard's bouyant examination of humor is the clever way he deconstructs the eternally elusive phenomenon of: FUNNY. He does it by being a smart, witty writer who is, simultaneously, a huge fan of other smart, witty writers. The material he has chosen to analyze is hysterical. He also has famous funny friends who happily show-up in his book as if they were attending a fabulous party in his living room. As a writer of comedy myself, as well as a teacher of comedy writing at UCLA EXTENSION, I intend to force my colleagues and studentia to buy, own & read this book. Its somewhat clunky title is the only thing I feel could use a re-write. I'd call it something like... "CHERISHING HUMOR" because it's not just for writers -- it's for readers and other smart, clever people (like the author).

Astounding accuracy; modern day prohecies

Written Judgements is a book of prohecies that deal with modern day politics and people, places and the environment. It gives the word of God through a prophet. His predictions are astoundingly accurate and there is no holding back of the word that God has given him to impart. The full meaning of all that is written will not be fully clear to some but will be subject to the test of fullfillment to all. What a an Accurate Prophet. A must read for those who need to build their faith and belief in God.

Bishop E. Bernard Jordan has written well over 30 books, which includes three (3) volumes of the Written Judgments series and volume 4. These books chronicles issues concerning the nations of the world, the caribbean, england, russia, etc. In these pages (written well before the dawn of 1990) the current American President's election was prophesied (see prophecy for Arkansas, vol.1); the fall of the berlin wall, the end of the USSR, the evacuation of the island of Monsterrat, the end of apartheid, the freeing of the Sharpeville Six in South Africa, the Oklahoma Bombing, airline disasters, stock market crashes, just to name a few. Get the books and be one of the few who will know what will happen before it happens. At least Bishop Jordan will tell you what to expect, so you know how to position yourself in the global outlook on things. Review written by: Ricardo Black

As a psychologist with >20 years experience working with children and adolescents I have read scores of books on motivation, study skills, and academic improvement. This is simply the best. I am so glad it is now available because for years it could only be purchased through Bernard's Australian publisher. A great book for students elementary school through college.

This book gives simple, straight forward ideas from both a professional point of view, as well as the point of view of various children. It provides excellent motivation techniques, as well as warns of common distractions, and influences that deter children from success. It has inspired me to do better for my children, in hopes of them achieving great goals. The simple but thought provoking worksheets inside are wonderful tools to assist both parent and child! A must read for all parents, educators, and even for children!
