i can't believe my luck, stumbling across this title. it really is "the only guide you will ever need" lots of titles claim this, few deliver. an A to Z of every important, unknown, or plain overlooked piece of info you will need to get your film on the screen.should be in every film school or film studies class

Every film, short or feature, begins with the screenplay. In Making Short Films, the writer has managed to condense all the screenwriting 'secrets' and mysticism into a powerful, straightforward guide to telling stories through film. Having started at the beginning, the book takes you step by step through the arts of directing, producing, editing and screening shorts at festivals and on the net. There are useful chapters on casting, locations, careers in film and I particularly enjoyed the History of Short Films, which puts the genre in context as it takes you on a journey from The Lumiere Brothers to YouTube. For new filmmakers, this is an essential guide. For tutors, you really won't need any other course work. Rarely does a book come along that can really change lives. Thurlow's Making Short Films is just such a book.

It is rare to get an insiders view of an important policy decision written with this much thoroughness and clarity. The Marshall plan is one of the most important things America has ever done in world affairs, and the prototype and foundation of the transformation of international relations that America is presently leading. This is its best account. We should not confuse Allan Dulles with his brother.

It is rare to get an insider's view of an important policy decision written with this much thoroughness and clarity. The Marshall plan is one of the most important things America has ever done in world affairs, and the prototype and foundation of the transformation of international relations that America is presently leading. This is its best account. The authors of the Marshal plan were democratic visionaries solidly grounded in pragmatic realities. Allan Dulles speaks for them. (Do not confuse Allan with his brother).

The book includes history, ethnology and circumstances of the find. The tools are presented in photograph, with line drawings, and with metallurgical micrographs. If you're looking to study or recreate the tools of the Viking Era, don't miss this.

If you are a student of the Viking Age or a woodworker who enjoys hand tools, this book is for you. A farmer recovered a the tool chest of a Viking Age shipbuilder completely intact. Awsome pictures allow us to surmise much about early boat building techniques.

This book is informative and fun with up-to-date information on Megalodon that is easy to understand. The kit allows kids to excavate their own Meg tooth, a replica, causing first-hand appreciation of this great creature that lived 25-2 million years ago!

This weekend, I found MORE THAN MIRACLES on my doormat. Sadly, two of the authors, Steve de Shazer and Insoo Kim Berg, who, together, were the main inventors of the solution-focused model, have recently died; Insoo a few months ago, Steve one and a half year ago. Those who knew them will be delighted that there is one more book which contains new material by them. The book explains the solution-focused model very clearly and is full of useful dialogues to which some interesting questions and comments are added. Actively reading and studying dialogues is one of the best ways to learn about the solution-focused approach. This book is is great for those who already know a bit about the approach and are eager to learn more (and who don't mind the fact that the examples are all therapy related). I think the book is great.

More than Miracles provides the state of the art for this model. This work represents the best distillation of the model to date. I especially appreciate the chapter covering its philosophical basis in Wittgenstein. I also appreciate the use of multiple cases to demonstrate the nuances of this model. Whether you like or approve of postmodern types of therapy, More than Miracles introduces you to the best of this type of therapy. It is a must have to complete any therapy or therapist's library.

Wonderful little gem of a book for mothers
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2001-06-18
Whimsical drawings and short phrases dot the pages of this little treasure. Modern motherhood is viewed by defining the various roles mothers perform. Some roles are entertainer, role model, juggler, nurturer, and even lover, the author defines who a mother is to the various loved ones in her family. Cute little drawings illustrate the humorous and serious aspects of each role.

This book contains references more toward the mother of school-aged children and teenagers. There are no references to mothering babies, such as breastfeeding or diaper changing. (As the mother of young children I wish there was a volume for just mothering babies and toddlers! I am sure it would be wonderful.) There are references to listening to your child's problems and sitting down to discuss things over tea and Kleenex. Some of the pages would be lovely framed.

A lovely little book that is appropriate for a gift.

I found this gem in a bookstore in Tokyo. The thoughtful situations, so relevant to a mother's life, are portrayed mostly by lovely drawings and a few carefully selected words. As an at-home mom, I often feel misunderstood. But Ms. White understands....perfectly. I bought this book for my mom for Mother's Day.

This is a marvelous book. One of the finest compliations of the (do they have a name?) - the poets who came after elliot, biship, and pound, i.e merwin, bly, snyder . . . The thing that makes this book most valuable are the essay's contributed by the poets themselves on the topic of free verse. I love it.

For an unusual and insightful look into the Third Reich, I highly recommend this book. The title is a bit of a pun, as the subject material covers the Nazis' unfashionable attempts to maniplate control over female fashions and women's roles through the use of propaganda and manipulation of the fashion industry. The book is well researched, well written, and discloses new findings exposing the purging of Jews from the German fashion industry. The book also details information on the little known German Fashion Institute and the very fashion-conscious Nazi officials' wives and their hypocritical husbands. The book accurately portrays the parody of Nazi political folly, as well as the realism of the devastated German home front through the lives of German women during WWII and the millions of women in the concentration camps throughout Europe. Be forewarned - this is one of those books that once you pick it up, you won't want to put it down until you reach the last page.

This is a great book, lots of great ideas for businesses that your child/teen can do. The majority of the ideas seemed to have to do with 'going green', which is great! It's written clearly and in a fun way that makes the reading go by fast. Well worth purchasing! You will get your money back in all the great ideas.

Kids will say,"I never thought of that..."

While there are some exceptions, such as entertainment, modeling and working for parents in the home, in most cases children cannot legally work until age 14 (per US Child Labor Laws). With the changes in technology, such as the internet (selling on eBay for example), many children are discovering they can earn money at a young age by going into business for themselves. After all, the child labor laws apply to the employers. Nothing is mentioned about children working in their own business!

If you have a young entrepreneur in your house or you just want to inspire your child to earn some money to pay for their own cell phone, this book will give some unique ideas.

The book describes the different types of businesses (sole proprietorship, partnership, etc.), then discusses skills such as budgeting, advertising, and human relations and closes with numerous business ventures kids can start right now. Kids will appreciate the "steps to success' list included with each business idea as well as the cartoon drawings which make the book an entertaining read.

This book has useful information for any child thinking about beginning a business. Since the tips and skills taught can apply to any type of business, this book can also serve as a "double check" for kids already in business for themselves. They will be sure to find some new concept, which is why I chose to title this review, "I never thought of that..."

This book is a delightful collection of recipes, enlivened with fascinating and often funny anecdotes about life in Minnesota's north woods. It is a pleasure to sit down and just read this book, and even more of a pleasure to take the recipes into the kitchen. All the recipes I've tried have performed flawlessly, and were fabulous. Can't recommend this book enough.
