I got this book for my 9 year old daughter, who hasn't shown much enthusiasm for my repeated attempts to foster a love of reading. She's old enough to think Junie B. Jones is a little "babyish", but she still likes a captivating character and a similar voice to Junie B. This is a fun book to read aloud, because some of the text is an inside joke to adults (at one point, Lucy Rose tries to fake illness, telling her mom she has "the heartbreak of sore irises!" I laughed at obvious play on advertisements for products to treat psoriasis, but my daughter didn't.) The characters are charming and Lucy Rose is convincing and fun. We've bought the next two books and are already enjoying "Big on Plans".

Lucy Rose Here's the Thing About Me
I read Lucy Rose Here's the Thing About Me by Katy Kelly. Lucy Rose is an 8 year old girl who is deffinetly a handful. What I mean by that is, she has an attitude.
This book is all about Lucy Rose, hints the title. It talks about her struggle throught her parents separation and about the fact that she has to move from Ann Arbor, Michigan, to Washington D.C. She had a lot of friends in Michigan but now, she has to start all over, new school, new people, new friends. Lucy is really funny so it's not a problem for her to meet new people. She refers to herself as just plain hilarious.
This book was really funny, cute, and interesting. I also liked it because it was really easy to read and I never got bored. I don't like the fact that Lucy was always bossy.
Over all it's a great story but there's a small problem, it's for girls! So any girls that haven't read it should really check it out!
I'm sure a lot of People can relate to this story in some way. For example, you've probably moved or had to make new friends but eventually it all works out and you don't feel like the new kid anymore.
This book teaches you to have confidence in yourself and everything will work out!

If you liked Junie B. Jones, Amber Brown or Ramona, you will love Lucy Rose, a spunky eight year old girl who has moved to Washington D.C. from Ann Arbor, Michigan after the separation of her parents. She is an "original thinker" who wears red cowboy boots, hates being teased by Melonhead, and loses the classroom pet gerbil when she takes him home during a vacation from school. With sage advice from Madam and Pop (her grandparents) Lucy Rose tackles life's little problems in an indomitable fashion. Written in diary form, the 3rd grade voice of Lucy Rose comes through loud and clear.
Fun ... good read-aloud potential

Lucy Rose is not your typical 8-year-old; she's an "original thinker." We meet Lucy as she's starting a new school year, in a new city (Washington, DC). Lucy is facing the challenge of making new friends while dealing with her parents' separation. Told in Lucy Rose's voice, using the device of diary entries, the book includes lots of little events in Lucy's life, including losing the school hamster and making Valentine's Day cards for *everyone* including the dreaded Melonhead. Lucy Rose's voice is lively and distinctive; the diary format would make this a good classroom read-aloud for 2nd and 3rd graders.

Here's the thing about Lucy Rose Reilly: She moves to a new town and starts third grade at a new school. She makes a friend and also an enemy. She struggles to deal with her parents' separation. She is obsessed with palindromes. There are also a big lie and a guinea pig, though the two are not related. Watch as Lucy Rose keeps it all together by recording her thoughts (only the interesting parts, mind you) in her new red journal.
To those who love Junie B., Lucy Reilly has the same sort of voice and shenanigans (without being a rip-off), but since she is older, she also has some weightier issues (the aforementioned enemy, the lie, and her parents' separation.) Full of wit, Lucy's story is one both boys and girls will enjoy. I marked it down on literary merit just because of the run-on sentences; it is, after all, in the voice of a third-grader.

This book was really fun to read. The 16 yr old boy was really funny. It really made me think about the future. I mean, I'm not getting rid of my 3 brothers any time soon, so I probably need to learn how to deal with them. It might be helpful if we can live together for the next 5 yrs at least without always biting each others' heads off.

I was loaned this book by a mother of eleven, so I thought it might be worth reading. The book is written by three homeschooling siblings: girl age 22, boy age 16, and girl age 12. They take turns writing on the same topic. The book is filled with humorous family stories which help to illustrate the points they are making. Their father illustrated the book, so there are plenty of homespun pictures to keep your interest.
The book begins with a general overview of WHY it is important to want to have your brother or sister as your best friend. When I began reading it myself, I thought, "Dull. Why doesn't this book move faster?" But, as I have been reading it aloud to my kids, I see that it moves just fast enough to convict, but not so fast to overwhelm.
The book continues with talking about how doing big things for God requires us to begin by doing "little things" for our siblings, how different people view the world differently, and covers the topics of forgiveness, humility, birth order, praising one another, and truly building friendships. It's a logical progression with more and more practical ideas as the book goes on.
The book is geared for a Christian audience, although not necessarily a homeschool one. It makes a great read aloud as you can read a whole chapter (long) or one of the three sections (shorter) or even part of the shorter sections each day. There are plenty of useful lists which you can read aloud to your children to help them to remember what it is that a servant would do, etc.
Once I finished reading my borrowed copy, I got online and ordered my own! I have seen changes in my children since we started the book, but it's not been a magic wand. Sigh. I wish I could get one of those from Amazon...

If you are a Christian family, especially, with more than one child, you need this book! My kids are loving this one. I read it aloud to them and they never want me to stop. The book is written by the children, for the children, so it speaks to them in a way that I can't. Excellent information, well worth the money - good buy!

My oldest daughter (age 9) has always been very selfcentered. Reading this book together has helped her realize the plan God has in her life with her little sister. Sometimes the lessons are not easy for her to swallow but she seems to understand them better after hearing from the Mally children.

This book was such a joy to read. I am one who normally does not like to read, when a friend recommended this book i blew it off because well, i have better stuff to do. Finally my friend made me read it, and i can say i should have read it much sooner! The twists the suspense, i would read it again, but sadly for me i know the end. I have to go get more of my friends to read this book so we can talk about it! I sure there is a second book coming soon, i really do.

Mela Barrows Bennett is a family practice and emergency medicine physician. She has experience in administration as president of the medical staff and director of emergency medicine at major hospitals.
Dr. David Hunter decides to run for staff president of Green Valley Hospital, in part to try to block a merger being pushed by the hospital's seedy administrator, John Michael Davenport. Part of his reason for running, other than a desire to maintain the hospital's excellent level of service, is because Dr. George Bluestone, long-time trustee, encouraged him. But when Dr. Bluestone suddenly dies, David enlists help from a new lady friend in his life, pathologist Janis Saunders. The results of the post-mortem findings are vague and disquieting:
"David paged through the reports. Normal liver tests, fair lipid profile, normal blood count, negative drug and alcohol screens...Then he saw. George's potassium level had been 2.4 (normal 3.5 to 4.5), and could have led to an irregular heart rate by itself, but the last page was the shocker. His dig level was 3.9 (desired 0.8 to 1.8)-highly toxic and particularly so in light of the low potassium. This deadly combination would be recognizable to a medical student. 'Meds?'"
When a professional takes to mystery writing, it is sure to produce a highly entertaining and detailed story. It also turns out that Dr. Bennett is quite the romantic, so MURDER MAKES THE ROUNDS is liberally sprinkled with the emerging love story between David Hunter and Joyce Saunders. The docs are the good guys in this plot, and the nefarious background antics of the hospital's administrator to enrich himself and threaten the future make this story all too familiar in today's health care climate.
MURDER MAKES THE ROUNDS is a well-plotted whodunit filled with believable characters just trying to get by in the frantic-paced world of health care. The all-encompassing world of medicine is well portrayed, as the doctors involved try to carve out a normal life for themselves. This is a most fascinating and well plotted tale written by a caring physician. Great job!

Cover to cover, this book was filled with wonderful stories and excellent instructions. Where else could I have learned the wisdom, passed on from generation to genneration. I received an in-depth picture of how to warp and weave a Navajo loom and could never have proceeded without it.
Only buy it to build a tapestry loom, thats the only reason!

What a life saver! It's difficult to get information on the Texas Gulf Coast about Navajo weaving. As an art major I had no trouble locating weaving classes (fiber arts) but no one seems to be into the Navajo style. This book singlehandedly taught me how to not only make a Navajo loom but also how to weave a rug (that turned out beautifully!). It has very easy to understand instructions that utilize contemporary easy to find materials. It also gives good resources for weaving fibers and/or tools that may not be available in your area. I haven't tried the Navajo spindle yet (to spin my own yarn) but the spindle is on order and I can't wait. Wonderful book!

Noel Bennett's book on Navajo Weaving is a gem. It is as much a description of her personal odyssey into the world of traditional Navajo weaving as it is a how-to book. Ms. Bennett learned from Tiana Bighorse not only the techniques of weaving but respect for the culture that created the techniques. In describing the creation of the weaving tools, the collection of dye plants, even the hand spinning of the wool Ms. Bennett shows how the creation of a rug can be a spiritual experience. Her book includes plans for a home-built Navajo loom, covers all the major weaving techniques, and includes a teaching sampler with full instructions. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to gain an insight into Navajo weaving.

A really nice story that you hate to see end. It is easy to become attached to the characters. I especially liked the photos and personal touches. A good reminder of what life was like during those difficult war years and what sacrifices were made on behalf of the generations to come. Hope there will be a sequel.

I was enchanted by this book from the moment I started reading. Our Girl is the love story of the author's grandparents during WWII. The novel takes one back to a place in time that was characterized by its decency and honorable intentions. Through the letters that her beloved grandfather wrote to her grandmother, the reader is able to embrace the joys of true love and to understand why the members of this era have been called "The Greatest Generation". The characters are captivating and the story is engrossing....like all great books, you just don't want the book to end.

I truly enjoyed this book. I found that I was drawn into the story so much that I was sad to see the book end. I wanted to know more about the characters. Reading the actual letters of correspondence was especially interesting - they demonstrate the absolute agony this couple went through during their separation. This is a wonderful and captivating love story about real people and real love during a very difficult time - war. I highly recommend this book.

I enjoyed this book as the author told the love story of her grandparents through WWII as historical fiction. The characters are likable, the memories of that era fresh and enjoyable. There were parts that were a little slow, but well worth the read. I especially enjoyed reading actual letters that her grandfather wrote to her grandmother. Brought back memories of my letter writing during the time my husband served in VietNam. I found I wasn't quite ready to let them go when the end of the book came.

I just took the peds shelf exam and there were questions that felt like they were lifted directly out of this book. I only wished i got to go through it twice! Go through the explanations for every question (even the ones you get right) and you should be good to go!

Pre-Test for Pediatrics was a great high-yield source for clinical clerkship or the Boards. It contains 500 questions with complete answers with references to further read up on the topics. It also contains black and white pictures throughout. It was a great review for the shelf exam. I find the Pre-Test series an important adjunct to my studies because it helps pinpoint my weaknesses.

I agree with Ben. Look at the PreTest Pediatrics PocketTest for Palm at www.BrainGlue.com . They have an interactive quiz program that presents explanations appropriate to your choices. The ebooks like MobiPocket and MSReader annoy the heck out of me, having to flip pages back and forth to view the answers. BrainGlue also has a scoring system that analyzes how you're doing in each chapter. It's way easier to use than the MobiPocket or MSReader ebooks.

This book is a perfect review for the USMLE-2. It include 5oo clinical-cases question with pictures and X-rays. The questions are shorter than on real exam but they help you to concentrate on high-yeld topics and learn important details which are often missed in other review books.
The book is well-organized. The questions are arranged in chapters. For example, the newborn infant, respiratory system, cardiovascular system... This allows you to learn the topic first and than sharpen your knowlege using this book. Plus, you can practice with questions before you finish reading the whole Pediatrics!

When I took the shelf board, my jaw dropped - it was as if the board came straight out of this book. Concise, but loaded with information. Lacks only info on immunizations and milestones, but these can be found anywhere.

This book is REALLY fun! I love all of the interesting little quizzes in it. I never would have thought of these things! I laughed at some of the answers. But what I really liked about this book was that most of the quizzes don't require a second friend, and you can do them on long car trips. This goes for Quiz Books 1 & 3 also! I love it! Highly Recommended!

I really liked this book! It's fun to share with your friends, and it is has good illustrations. I don't want to write in this book, and it's kind of confusing trying to find out your score. If you really liked the first book, The Quiz Book, then this is a must have.

This is such a cute and FUN book! It's filled with really cute pictures and quizzes that help you learn more about you and your friends. You can do it with friends or by yourself. Either way, you'll definetely have fun. I GUARANTEE that! This book even has a quiz so you can find out what breed of dog you'd be if you were one. That one is of my favorite quizzes. In fact, I loved all of 'em. For those who already have the first Quiz Book, you'll love this as much if not more! :)

Well written and extensively illustrated with drawings and color photos; you won't find many books more complete or as detailed as this one. Good lessons on perspective, texture, light and shadow, carving depth and levels, as well as a beautiful gallery of work completed by the author.
My only complaint with the book is the lack of extra projects included with it. In addition to the step by step project in the tutorial, the back of the book has only one one additional project. A larger variety of additional projects would be nice to keep the momentum going, and for those who would prefer something other than seascapes.

This book is exactly what its title says. If you are new to relief carving, you might think that realistic relief carving involves simply in the carving half round. But this approach will not be satisfactory. This book shows to how even very shallow relief can be amazingly realistic if proper perspective is used. The book has several simple projects in the beginning to help you master the basic principles. Then you can carve a very nice nautical scene which is detailed step by step with ample photos. He uses both standard wood carver's hand tools such as gouges and also power tools including a router and a dremel. I rated this a 5 because of the efective way the content is organized and the detail provided.

While this book does go into some detail it only encapsulates one real relief carving. There are many examples from which the authors could have chosen but they selected one, extremely complex example from which to work. A more graduated lesson might have been in order to accommodate a more realistic learning curve.

I liked this book, because a girl who was a nothing wished on a star and became beautiful. She soon became popular instead of being part of the geek club, she got the guy she always wanted, and the job of a lifetime. But the more she got the more she lost like her best friend (since kindergarden) and the respect of her family. I mostly liked the book, because it shows how being someone you are not is worse than just being yourself!

Callie Bailey is used to living in her older sister Laurel's shadow. But it's not what she wants. She wants to be beautiful and popular. But most of all she wants Laurel's boyfriend Jake. Then one night Callie gets the LoveRock. That night she puts the LoveRock under her pillow and makes a wish. And then her wish comes true. Only problem is that in the course of this she almost loses two of the most important people in her life.

I thought it was a good spin on the classic "be careful what you wish for" ploy. It's interesting and romantic, too Calle starts out as a geek, becomes popular and steals her sister's boyfriend, realizes she doesn't like him, and goes back to her regular self all thanks to a meteroite. Good story. I'm looking forward to reading more of this series.

This was a really great book. I loved how it had to do with this rock that fell to earth. Halley found it. Her one biggest wish in life was to be as beautiful as her sister who was model and she, Halley, was just a dull girl. When she found the "loverock" as she calls it, something told her to put it under her pillow and her wishes would come true, and that's just what happened. She became a knock-out. Well, I don't want to spoil this story for you. So buy this book. It's great, and you'll love it. It's a very good story and I've never read anything like this before. Also, if you want to get in touch with the Author, their e-mail address is in the back and they actually write to you personally. No form letters. If you want your book autographed, they will do that too. I had that done. Well, all I can say about this book is buy it today and don't delay!

A great book dealing with the possibilities and the power of human nature. It is highly metaphorical making you perceive the way people should guide their lives in a unique, very spiritual and inspiring way. Both stories are great but I really enjoyed the second one which divides people in two categories: the ones which keep in thouch with their spirituality and perceive life as a unique experience involving self-discipline, universal understanding and completion of the soul. On the other side are the narrow-minded people who are strained by social, economical and materialistic prejudices...worn off (without having the conception of that) are merely happy with their lives...being tottaly incorporated with the materialistic way of life and having no idea about what is happening behind the 'scene'. An inspiring book!!

P.D. Ouspensky's Talks With A Devil provides two allegories about the devil: one in which the devil of technology is faced with science, the other where a man battles against the devil for his soul. These two stories by the philosopher and student of Gurdjieff's teachings provides an similar tales which explore devils' interests in human affairs.

Ouspensky presents an original and very readable study of the human mechanism . Consideration of the way we live our lives can be unpalatable when directly confronting negative aspects of our behaviour such as eating and drinking to excess or unsatisfactory handling of our time or relationships . This book presents these matters and others in an absorbing account of the problems faced by the Devil and his assistants in striving to assist human beings to relate more fully to the material world.
The story is amusing while giving insights which are not immediately apparent . Much of the enjoyment of the book comes after reading of it is completed.

(My remarks below are limited to the second of the two tales: Reading time ~1 hour.)
Ouspensky was a fair novelist. The tale opens as a grumpy European traveler realizes he will not be getting to sleep, due to the intense heat and humidity of the Indian climate. Then, lo and behold - it's the devil! And the devil, for reasons not too clear, shares his thoughts on humanity with the traveler. Ouspensky makes an interesting point that one man's meat is another devil's poison. Terrestrial daemons are busily concerned with keeping our interests occupied with the immediate here-and-now. For them, any spiritual attainment by human beings is mysterious and frightening, and so they help us - to their way of thinking - by surreptitiously bending our ways to their ways. The story is clean and imaginative with very little pretence. It wakes you up - just a little - so there'll be no need for devils to bother you on completion.
