This book is well written and light, but the material is strong. Clearly the author is drawing on a lifetime of experience and he has the mastery to do so. I found that his analysis and creativity useful in other parts of my life too. Worth getting.

A small sailboat was a very easy read for my child. It was entertaining with a suprise ending. I look forward to more books from this author.

This book is easy to read with its short stories and meditations. It gives new insight to everyday occurances of God in our lives.

This is a fabulous resource; it will help teachers work with children and reawaken their love of singing. The style is so direct and clear, it makes you want to know the authors. A wise and wonderful book with LOTS of great ideas and insights for teachers, parents, and musicians!

And not just in novel form, either; Christopher L. Bennett's DROWNED IN THUNDER is better even than most stories told in the comicbooks lately.

The fight scenes are great, the humor is great, and the characterization is spot on.

Best of all, it's so continuity-rich you'd swear Mark Gruenwald wrote it from beyond the grave. There's references to things like Aunt May hitting Spidey with a vase and MJ trying to hit him with a pillow (from a little BACK-UP story in an ANNUAL!). And even better, there's references to the previous novels, not just "Down These Mean Streets" by Keith R.A. DeCandido and "The Darkest Hours" by Jim Butcher, but even the novels from the previous series, including the ones by Diane Duane and Adam-Troy Castro. And a direct quote from the 1960's Batman movie.

And even a nickname for JJJ that's taken from the 90's animated series!

Pick it up, you will not regret it.

Bennett's pioneering attempts to flesh out a structural map of human nature with the shared experience of his summer school class at Coombe Springs is persuasive in terms of the sheer clarity and handling of data alone -- psychology as an empirical discipline is harmonized with spirituality, Christian theology, Gurdjieff's study of man, Jungian thought, the child and developmental psychology of Piaget, and the largely ineffable experience of Subud. Still this is no grand theory so much as a work-in-progress exploration, which gives an open-ended sense to the reader's involvement as well. Some of the best insights here are mentioned seemingly quite casually, and each reading of this book seems somehow more surprising than the first. I should think this would be valuable research, not only to those involved in Gurdjieff studies or Subud, but also to students of psychology or spirituality in general. Somehow, I doubt that will ever be.

With all the misbehavior of athletes these days, here are six who are truly inspirational for kids. The book is well-written and easy to follow, giving the basics of each person's life sprinkled with a few interesting facts. Reluctant readers will gobble it up.

I went to Valencia after reading this book and it has amazing details. Janice Bennett did monumental research to give us this history. Anyone interested in Medieval history/Grail lore should take time to read.

Every graduate program in mathematics should hand every beginning student a copy of this book the moment they enter the program. One month later, they should be given an exam over the material to verify that they read the book. Then, if the student is sensible, they will reread it twelve months before graduation and again right after they accept a tenure-track position. The knowledge that you can obtain from this book is that valuable, and can literally help make your career.
I have been on almost every side of the mathematical fence, having been a full-time college instructor in mathematics for several years, a research programmer at a university and a research scientist at a startup company. I currently own a consulting company and teach mathematics and computers as an adjunct and edit [a journal]. Throughout all of this, I have also maintained a steady stream of professional output of papers and problems. From this perspective, I can say that the information about life in industrial mathematics is absolutely right on. Not for everyone who has spent decades in school, it does present enormous opportunities for challenging work.
If you think that you are following the proper strategy to be granted tenure, then you must read the story "The Tenure Chase Papers" by Dana Mackenzie. Unfortunately, this horror story is not as unusual as it should be. The message is clear, start constructing your tenure application your first day on the job and never assume that college and university officials are above being inept and disingenuous. The advice about building your credentials and cultivating allies is something that you cannot afford to ignore.
The balance of the book deals with how to pursue research while teaching a full load and how to obtain grants. Everyone underestimates the amount of time you really put in teaching a full load and unless you absolutely have no life outside of your work, finding time to conduct research is extremely difficult. The best answer is to simply schedule research time with yourself and consider any failure to keep the commitment on a par with canceling a class.
The bulk of this book was written by young mathematicians with recent experience in entering the job market. Their stories are real and packed with knowledge that no one beginning a mathematical career can afford to ignore. I cannot recommend this book enough to that group.

I am a girl age 17, and I read this book for the first time when I was 15, since then I've read it several times. For unknown reasons it has continued to intrigue me and draw me back. It is a great romantic novel, and a great christian novel. I like the fact that I learn more about Hongkong, I like the plot in the story and first and foremost I like the main characters. My mother who is turning 45 this year, also loved it, and all of Marilyn Kok's books and she is wondering. Is there coming more?
