The author has written a very good history book which is the
basis of many college history classes throughout nation. The use of maps, pictures, and charts is very good and reenforces
the material quite well.

I had to use this book as a course textbook for a college class last semester. One of the things that I really liked about
this book is that it is very interesting; it really presents history in a fascinating way - one that draws you into it as
you read. However, one of the bad things I found is that with this approach, it is very difficult to read to find specific
information (although the quite-extensive index does definitely help). If you want a book you can skim, I wouldn't recommend
this one - yet if you have the time to really delve deep, I would recommend it.

usually does end up being good, so I trust that it is.

Being a child of the state is not what many people wish to happen. "Home Found" tells of Samuel L. Bennett and growing up
as a ward of the state of Indiana. Parentless as an infant, he was sent to farms to labor for his way as a child, and found
it wasn't the life for him. A failed attempt to flee to Ohio, he finds his solace in the United States Army at the age of
sixteen. He found his home where most regard as far from, abroad with over two decades of service. A lifelong veteran's story,
"Home Found" is solid reading.

A Government Program Gone Crazy

After September 11 the Congress and the President had to be seen 'doing something.' And the result was the Department of Homeland
Security and the Patriot's Act. The result of that has been that local governments all over the country have been able to
get all kinds of grants to buy things like bullet proof vests for their K-9 dogs, a trailer to haul lawn mowers to lawn mower
races, gym equipment, sponsor puppet and clown shows and the list continues to grow.
In this book the author discusses not only such grants (which in the overall scheme of things is rather minor) but other aspects as well.
For instance there's the color coded barometer of terror or threat level. There are five levels: blue, green, yellow, orange, and red. Red has never been used, I guess they haven't detected things like the liquid explosives on airplanes threat far enough in advance to raise the level. Likewise blue and green have never been used. This might give the impression that there's no need for the Homeland Security department.
We've all heard of the illegal wiretapping. The author likens it to the wiretapping done by the East Germans. Remember that tapping the phones is not enough, somebody's got to sit there and listen to all those conversations. Oh well.
This is an excellent expose of a big Government program run amuck. But doesn't all that make you feel more secure. By the way, what is the color of the threat code today?

When I was a little girl this was my absolute favorite book. My parents read it to me hundreds of times and when I was able
I read it to myself hundreds more. It has many different animals and deals with fear, compassion, ridicule and in a small
way a swimming lesson which at the time I did not know how to do. I haven't read the book in years and at the moment do
not have. I just had a baby 2 months ago and I'm sure it will be his favorite as it was mine.

This little Cliffsnotes book absolutely saved my live in high school, when I was forced to write a term paper about this boring,
plodding, stupefying, over-written, under-communicated, turgid, nauseating, putrid novel by Nate Hawthorne.
Cliffsnotes didn't make the real book any more interesting or valuable, but it certainly simplified the tale such that it could be understood and then written about. If you are ever unlucky enough to find yourself in a situation where you are forced to read HOSG, then you need to buy these Cliffsnotes immediately.

4.5 blue ribbons
Notorious rogue and gambler Chadwick Hamilton has dreams of building a town on a plot of land he owns. If he's going to succeed, he'll need more than just his prestigious Boston family upbringing to convince backers to support him, he'll need a wife. When Chad wins another man's mail order bride in a poker game he thinks his prayers have been answered - only his bride-to-be isn't exactly the docile, proper young lady he was expecting.
Cherry Blossom may have attended Miss Lavenia Sitwell's Atlanta School for Young Ladies but she wasn't a student, she was a kitchen maid. By no stretch of the imagination is Cherry a docile female, in fact she's full of modern beliefs and to Chad's horror she's an advocate of the women's suffrage movement. He'll have to take her firmly in hand and put an end to those foolish notions before she meets his potential backers.
Cherry spends more than two hours waiting in the coach station for someone to come retrieve her. When Chad finally arrives and introduces himself, she learns that her fiancé had bet and lost her in a poker game to Chad. He expects her to fulfill the terms of the contract and marry him. He doesn't need or want a love match, what he requires is a well brought up young lady who knows all the `ins and outs' of proper etiquette. He's in for a rude awakening because despite his misgivings and the questionable behavior of Miss Cherry, Chad marries her the very day she arrives in Texas and then Cherry begins to wreck havoc on his neat orderly life with her argumentative ways and strong beliefs. Chad should be angry but he's finding himself drawn to her outgoing personality and caring nature. What will he do when he discovers that everything he thought about her is a lie?
I've never read a Barri Bryan book I didn't like and this one is no exception! With a fast plot, fun characters, and unexpected dialog MAIL ORDER BRIDE will charm its way right into your heart. I absolutely love Cherry's modern day views and that she's not afraid to voice them and even when she's not voicing them you're privy to her thoughts. Chad has explicit ideals of how a woman should act and it's very funny to visualize the scenes when these two clash over their differences of opinion. This is a fabulous light-hearted story that historical readers will want to add to their keeper shelves.
