This book has been in my son's top-five ever since he could point to a book! It's the only Caillou item he has, but he loves it and knows all the words. Very cute story, great pictures! I'm hoping to buy another Caillou book that will be equally popular.

i was always a reserved child, and this book helped me to see that i could deal with my fears. it also taught me that being in a blended home wasn't easy, but it was workable. cara's situation was worse than mine, yet she handled it, that meant i could to. it was a real spirit booster.

I'm from the Five Towns, where this gem of a book is set. It's actually the Potteries, in Staffordshire, England. The book is about the life and times of Edward Henry (Denry) Machin who, by being a 'card' rises from humble beginnings to wealth and prominence.
A card is someone who's a bit of a lad, who does things no one else dares or dreams of. Denry is never cruel, never arrogant and his adventures and mishaps as he falls in love and out, manages his mother, determined to live her life in a tiny slum, and becomes the most well known inhabitant of the area make for hilarious reading. The wit is subtle, his triumphs are believable and his failures make us feel for him. Read this book. It's very, very good.

If you like Celtic Art (for the beauty of it or for woodworking with it) along with all its beautiful Knotwork Patterns, then you'll appreciate this book. It has some incredible yet doable woodworking projects that are truly in the Celtic Motif. It also shows the original Celtic Art pieces which spawned the ideas for these projects along with some Celtic history and explanation of some of the symbols' and designs' meanings. It gives good instructions for the woodworker including materials and tools lists and pictures of the work being done. It also covers many different techniques of woodworking which I like as well. All in all, it's a very good book to add to your woodworking project library or to your Celtic Art library or, as in my case, both.

Easily one of the greatest collection of essays pertaining to Black liberation in text. Bennett is illustrious for his linear Historic and Sociological acumen - which is appropriate as he is one of the great scholars. However, these essays on revolution, the Middle Class and other related topics are timeless, possess a contemporary feel and deviate from his normative methodology. The writing is incisive and his observations are unique. There's a chapter entitled, 'The Task of the Negro Artist' which is simply poetic and a succeeding chapter on History where he poignantly delineates the pertinence of Historical cognition and this knowledge being the impetus for action. I love this book.

"...In The Caffeine Advantage, Weinberg and Bealer explain how the judicious use of caffeine can provide a safe and strategic advantage to living the good life. In the popular imagination, caffeine is possibly the most misunderstood of all substances. While conducting my own studies on its effect, I have been surprised by how often individuals express an almost disapproval of its use. I am glad the authors have done such an effective job of reflecting the countless misunderstandings and misconceptions about the action of this ubiquitous substance. Caffeine is in fact a wonderful aid to health and achievement. More than just being a tonic to wake you up, it has benefits for intelligence, mood, physical performance, weight control, and, in many cases, disease prevention....
Perhaps the most valuable service performed by this book is the apt debunking of three great myths about caffeine: that it is necessarily bad for your heart, that moderate consumption increases anxiety and sours mood, and that caffeine causes dehydration. As Weinberg and Bealer carefully explain, these myths arose from historical prejudice and the misuse of caffeine....
The reader who heeds the caveats and exhortations to consume in moderation will achieve caffeine's benefits and avoid any negative consequences of overindulgence. The benefits are numerous: improving sleep quality as well as overcoming fatigue, combating jet lag, elevating intelligence and memory, enhancing creativity, improving mood and dispelling boredom while increasing sociability, raising physical performance and endurance, aiding weight loss and dieting, and preventing aging while counteracting disease. Indeed, caffeine appears as an elixir of life to the informed user."
