Although the reading level is high, the information can be handy for job seekers who need to understand the point of view of placement professionals. The book also includes a section for job seekers with disabilities titled "Talking About Your Disability in the Interview: A Question and Answer Study Guide." Provides legal details about handling the issue of disclosure in the interview.

Amazing read...like being there

This is the first book I've read by Niall Williams. He is an amazing writer. He plays with vocabulary and sentence structure and somehow (without being gimmicky) transports you back 2,000 years ago, on the island of Patmos, living day by day, in faith, beside the apostle John. You live humbly and expectantly awaiting the return of Christ. Heresies arise. John gets old. I don't want to give anything away, but it is an amazing, literary book that goes to your heart. I finished it a week ago and am still thinking about it. It's a bit of a slow read, but it builds wonderfully. I think non-Christians won't "get" it...but any person of faith, who understands the power of the word of God will love this book.

A beautiful catalog of the a respected but still tremendously underrated painter, Jose Maria Sicilia - along with Miquel Barceló and Astrid Colomar, one of the brilliant artistic lights emanating from the tiny island of Mallorca. Sicilia works in a intense, contemplative mode creating in his paintings a universe both microscopic and telescopic in its dimensionality.

For those looking to steal Nietzsche back from the PoMo moralizers, this is an excellent collection. Rossett is by far the most Nietzschean of the French philosophers, and is hated by the vast majority of them for pointing out that Foucault, Irigaray, Derrida and the rest really do not know Nietzsche at all. For Rossett, PoMo is a kind of cruelty. It is based on hating reality -- the only true source of scandal. Affirmative philosophies, like those of Nietzsche, Spinoza and Empedocles, are simply not allowable. To like life and reality is not allowable. It is unsporting to be an atheist. It is unsporting to find reality acceptable and to force the complainers to defend their devaluation of the now. The complainers and the irrationalists never have to defend themselves. Why is that? They are following their cruelty, and we rationalists resist ours. A must read.

Elephant Hunting classic
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-08-19
The old adage "Can't tell a book by the cover" certainly held true for the second of Bell's well-written accounts of hunting the African elephant. Unlike his other titles, this book covers a single year long adventure into what was then, the uncharted Karamojo region of central Africa. Bell gives a first hand account of camp life, native interactions, jungle politics and the unyielding search for premium elephant country. To quote from his descriptions of the trip, "this was a hunting safari, first and last". As a result, his writing does not suffer from the slow sections that force less experienced authors to embellish or referencing the age-old ballistic tables from the Birmingham Proof House. Soon after beginning, I understood that Bell did not act or plan on anything that didn't fit in with his goal of hunting elephants. This relentless focus at a time when there were complete regions of Africa that no European man had ventured through, enabled him to emerge in good health and spirits after bagging one hundred eighty elephant in fourteen months. Compare this to the other successful ivory hunters of the period who averaged between seventeen to twenty-five elephant per year and you begin to understand why he was considered the absolute best at his profession. Karamojo Safari is among my favorite titles for many reasons but if forced to choose one then it would have to be Bell's ability to describe the feelings and passions associated with hunting in general. Clearly, he loved hunting in Africa and this enabled him to be consistently successful. A century ago at the end of his life, it was not only Walter's ability with a rifle that what made him both rich and famous, but also his skill with the pen that has ultimately maintained his legendary status making Karamojo Safari a classic Africana title.

This rare find of a book is a must for anyone who wants to learn more about one of the most beautiful and least spoiled areas of Hawaii. The text is very informative and the pictures take you to very exotic and very hard to reach places.
