I enjoyed reading about Christy and David how they just on the spur of the moment decides to get married and does. Not truly thinking of the consequences of the decision. There is her career and there is Lauren, who he had decided to propose while in Las Vegas for his grandfather's birthday party. Although it had been ten years since Christy and David seen each other when he broke up with her for no apparent reason. I love how the story weaves the reason in there for the break-up and the true reason why they impulsively got married. You just have to read the book to see how it ends. I couldn't put the book down. Finished it in one day. It left me with a smile on my face.

I loved this book. Christy, an expert on keeping marriages together has never been married. She went down to Las Vegas for a Seminar and ran into her high school sweetheart, David. David had broke up with her for aparently no reason ten years before. They get to talking and by the end of the night have married. Christy wakes up the next morning thinking that it is a dream. She soon finds out that it wasn't. That night they go to dinner with David's family. They have to explain why David wasn't at his granfather's birthday party and deal with Lauren, the woman David was planning on asking to marry him. Once back home Christy is deturmined to make her marriage work. David is deturmined that at the end of one year (he needs to be married to take over his grandfather's company) the marriage end. Problems come in the form of Lauren, who wants David for her self and David's cousin, who wants the company for himself. Not to mention Christy's agent wants her to work more than ever. Rumors start that Lauren is pregnant with David's child. Upset Christy asks Lauren about and seems to get a confirmation and the idea that Lauren might have an abortion since she has no one to help her raise a baby. Horrified Christy leaves David, so that Lauren's baby can live. Then, Christy finds out . . . Well, read it for yourself. I bet that you will like it.

What would you do if all of the sudden every time you fell asleep you had a vivid dream about death? Or even worse, having premonitions while you are awake.
For Amber being a newlywed should be pure bliss. But when her friend Natalie tells her about an old High School friend found murdered; Amber's world is flipped upside down and backward.
The dreams come to her out of the blue. Brutal attacks by a soulless blue eyed man seeking revenge on what he calls each one, "Whores."
After doing a little research at the local library, Natalie discovers some very unsettling news. These are not premonitions they are actual events that happened in the past. But how long ago did the first murder take place?
Being married to a psychologist should ease Amber's mind, because he is not telling her she is crazy. Just stressed out from being newly married. Or is there something more? You will just have to read to find out.
I think Angela Albee is a remarkable writer. I could see exactly what Amber saw in her visions. The story was very detailed and pulled me in right from the beginning.

A Great Read!

What Julianna Could See is a gorgeous picturebook, originally written for Julianna Margulies (film actor and former star of the popular television series "ER") by her father Paul Margulies when Julianna was only six years old. A simple poem in What Julianna Could See presents the limitless boundaries of imagination, and brilliant watercolor-style illustrations by Famke Zonneveld enhance the gentle simplicity of the original composition. A heartwarming treasure to share about the power and wonder of a child's creativity. Things shinging with light... / A voice singing sweetly / She felt in her soul / But soon she felt sleepy. // Then using her sweet little hands / For a pillow / She slept with the angels / Beneath a cool willow.

We received this book as a gift and my son grabs it at least four times a day for us to read to him. The illustrations are colorful, fun and varied. The author beautifully writes about the messages in Psalms in an appealing fashion for toddlers.

An account of the fight to end segregation
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 1999-03-08
An insider's view of the struggle to end segregation in the Alabama-West Florida Conference of the UMC, Collins' book is filled with stories that were echoed throughout the deep South: personal stories of courage by ministers and laymen whose Christian idealism led them to oppose the institution of segregation in the church. Sadly, it also recounts, despite some structural and administrative advancement, the truth that Sunday morning remains the most segregated hour in American society. A must-read for those interested in the struggle between Christian faith and cultural Christianity in the deep South.

Documents one small part of the struggle for civil rights

During a time when Alabama was a major battleground in the struggle for black civil rights, Collins describes how one white denomination responded to the moral issue of racial segregation. His story is not a pretty one. Collins paints a picture of evasion, resistance, and moral cowardice. In small towns and large cities, Methodist congregations opposed the teachings of their nation organization; ostracized ministers who dared to advocate racial equality openly; withheld funds from religious organization considered too liberal on racial issues; closed their doors to African-Americans; and refused to have any contact with black fellow Methodists. - - Paul T. Murray, Siena College

"Where do we go from here" is a must read. It's one of those great books you remember, when first started reading, you couldn't put down, not even for a hot meal. The Author takes your through a journey of a typical young black man's life, which consisted of intricate and challenging decisions he encountered which was essential to make, whether for better or worst.
A great deal of knowledge was put forth, compelling characters, twists and turns, just about a lil of everything. If you're a reader who enjoys books like this, then I recommend you should get it.

I have always enjoyed stories of the Shaolin temples and their history and this book is top of my list. It describes in great detail the daily activities of the monks, their training, ideals, relationships and of the painstaking efforts they made to protect their simple way of life from the corrupt armies of the time. I really enjoyed the friendship that develops between the White Priest and Takuan and the depth of description the author uses to make me feel as if I know them both. Even more exciting is that I learned that this book is part of a series where the friendship continues. If you like this type of history get it, you won't be disappointed.

I have long been interested in reading about the Shaolin. The White Priest and it's author captured my imagination and held my interest completely. It gave me a glimpse into life in a Buddist Monastery, the training, dedication and hard work. The characters of the White Priest and Takuan came to life for me as their friendship grew. This is a story I could read over and over again. I would have no problem in recommending it to anyone no matter what their interest, and I am looking forward to reading the other books in this series.

Ridin', ropin', and bleepin' . . .

The risque title of this book may be a little misleading. It's actually a thoroughly researched anthology of cowboy songs by a folklorist with plenty of credentials. Logsdon was director of libraries and a professor at the University of Tulsa. For anyone who has read and wondered about the alleged bawdiness of cowboys (early western historians were prevented by editorial restrictions from being very specific), this book will remove all doubt. Of the 61 songs included, many are unexpurgated and unembarrassed evidence that cowboys had more than cattle drives and roundups on their minds.

The book includes a lengthy introduction about song collecting, with an extensive preface to each song, noting its publication and recording history and variant versions. Songs are illustrated with a wonderful series of full-page vintage photographs by cowboy photographer Erwin Smith and others. There are bios of the six contributors to the collection, including Dallas "Nevada Slim" Turner and Baxter Black. Logsdon has also included a long history of cowboy music, ranging from its origins in the pre-cowboy South to the annual cowboy poetry gatherings at Elko, Nevada. There's a glossary of terms for those unfamiliar with cowboy lingo, plus a 22-page bibliography and helpful index. Recommended for everyone from the serious folklorist to the western enthusiast.

A fine study of cowby songs, honest and thorough

It is rare to find a book which is written not only with an enthusiasm and love of the subject matter but with a scholar's attention to detail. When you find a book that contains both, you often find a gem - and this book is that gem. There is a wide range of material here, everything from Songs about Cowboys to Other Songs Cowboys Sing (including the most bawdy and less well-known pieces). Gives a well-rounded view of the cowboy's real life, not the prettified picture that many books contain. The author, Guy Logsdon, lectures and performs as a Cowboy Poet and Singer and has published widely on cowboy songs and poetry. An extensive glossary and bibliography are included in the book.

Satuday "Public" sessions at the San Francisco Zen Center could include: a tour of the Beginner's Mind Temple, basic instruction for sitting meditation, a talk given by a staff member or by a guest at the Center, a question and answer session for the talk, informal socializing on the patio and , of course, lunch. Announcements of special lectures, workshops and ceremonies were followed with an open invitation to the Public: "Just knock on the door, someone will let you in!".

WIND BELL represents this open, positive and supportive environment through 38 artcles, selected and commented on by Michael Wenger, from its 40 year history. Not only are talks given by Shunryu Suzuki and other early members, but also current staff, and with guests as varied as Thich Naht Hanh and Lama Govinda. These articles cover sitting meditation, applying Zen to everyday life, ceremonies, and Buddist concepts both simple and complex.

This book can supply enjoyment for years, just browsing (including the fine photographs), developing favorites for inspiration or studying pieces in depth. One reason for the success of ZEN MIND, BEGINNER'S MIND was the loving care put into its preparation. I believe WIND BELL has been treated as well.

I first checked this book (and several others) out at the library, now I read our copy to my 10 yr old who has started puberty. She finds it very easy to understand and I found the Question / Answer method extremely helpful to relay information to her. This is a must for any mother with a young daughter who has no idea what's happening to her body.
