Bell was a social scientist who stumbled into the study of terrorism early by being in accidently place early in the latest cycle of the Irish Troubles. He has studied, in his phrase, "talked up", one man's freedom fighter or another man's terrorist from the members of the Irgun to the Provos, including a few junkets to Beruit during the Israeli occupation. He saw the cross-fertilization of techniques as each of these groups studied the other.

As fate would have it he was writing of the original Trade Center bombing when the airliners hit the wall.

The one slim volume ties the latest wave of Middle Eastern terrorism together in a taut narrative. (I say latest because the West has been taking casualties in these conflicts since the 60's) His narrative of John O'Neill, fittingly the person Clarke dedicated his book to and a 9/11 casualty, is the worm's eye view on how a ragtag band of Arab exiles living in mud huts in the dying embers of the Cold War sucker-punched the Cray-driven intelligence apparatus of the West.

Sadly, this work was Bell's last. He is missed.

the beginnings of Islamoterror

Here's a book that shows where all this terrorism began. It was in Egypt, not Palestine or Lebanon or any of the other hotspots you might expect. Trying to get rid of the Brits, the Egypstians pioneered "righteous murder"--assasination with a theological justification. The author shows that it was different from any of the terror yet practiced by anarchists in Russia and elsewhere, and what developed from it was different from anything practiced later by groups like the IRA and the Red Brigades. There is a scary portrait here of Sheikh Abdel Rahman, who brought Islamist terror to the U.S. in 1993 with the first bombing (these guys were obsessed with the symbolism) of the World Trade Center. This book is must reading for anyone who wants to know how jihadi terror began and where it might go.

Thou shalt call his name Jesus; for he shall save his people from their sins. (Matthew 1:21)

Throughout the Bible, Jesus has many names. He is called the Lily of the Valley, the Bright and Morning Star, King of Kings, Son of Man and the Rose of Sharon.

If you love the words of Christ, then this book will explain who He is and why more than 300 names reveal an intimate portrait of a man who gave his life for the sins of the world.

Each name also has devotional prayers and could be used to enrich your devotional time. The names have been classified into:

1. Literal Functions - prophet, priest, king
2. Metaphorical Functions - Shepherd, bread of life
3. Poetic Functions - lily of the valley or morning star

The names in this book originated from the King James Version, but the author has added alternative names from the NIV for those unfamiliar with the KJV. This can be helpful because the KJV uses the word "Daysman" and the NIV uses "Arbitrator." The main headings are the KJV words and then there is a note at the end of each section if there is a word change in the NIV.

Even if you have been reading about Jesus since you were a small child, there is a wealth of information here you may have never considered. I was especially interested in the "bundle of Myrrh" comments. There is a beautiful story about a traveler who is refreshed by wild jasmine. The connection is then made with a bundle of myrrh. Myrrh is actually a fragrance/essential oil that makes you more introspective, encourages expression and exalts the spirit.

As new parents, my wife and I love this story and wanted a tradition of our own. We found it! The illustrations are extremely well done, and the story ... well, it's THE night before christmas story ... but, I've been surprised at how people who try to hard can screw that up. So, by staying simple and fun, this book is definitely going to be what we share with our kid(s) for Christmases to come.

Bill Bell illustrates just the way we imagine the story. The originals (created for this book) are even more colorful than anyone can expect. The Book is the most fun way to own them all.
Thanks for your (usual) fast and excellent service!

This is the second exceptional volume to come out recently on a regional tiger beetle fauna, providing an outstanding companion to Knisley & Schultz's volume on the tiger beetles of the South Atlantic states. The volume is well-written and includes much basic information that would be helpful for the beginning cicindelist on tiger beetle biology, the nature of species, and collecting and preparation techniques. Cautions are also included against collecting endangered or protected species, with strong and specific advice on photographic techniques for these. More advanced materials include keys to both adults and third-instar larvae. Each species is described, and key identifying characteristics are underlined for easy reference; distinguishing characteristics from similar species are included for each, which is a big help for a beginner. The volume is profusely illustrated with line drawings and a black-and-white reference photograph of each species; color photographs of all species included in the study area are also included in separate plates. Maps showing distributions in the New England States and adjacent Canada are more detailed than those of Knisley & Schultz, and include major rivers and lakes. This is an obligate addition to the library of any serious cicindelist.

Number Jugglers is the most important math game in my class.

I have taught a multi-age class, grades 1,2, and 3 for 10 years and have found Number Jugglers to be the most popular and useful math game in my class's math program. Children who do not feel successful in other ways in math, find a place of comfort with Number Jugglers. Children are thinking, manipulating numbers, problem solving, and practicing math facts while having a great deal of fun. Number Jugglers is solid in current good teaching practices. I found Number Jugglers easy to understand and use. Kids love to leave school with Number Jugglers as their homework. I think Number Jugglers should be on every classroom shelf and in every home.

The best math learning book ever.

This book works for every kid, and adults enjoy playing the games, too! I have never seen a child try a Number Jugglers game without getting enthusiastic about math. It must be the feeling of success that comes with getting it right in Number Jugglers.

Whatever it is, Ruth Alexander has developed a truly great approach to math learning that works. And it's enjoyable enough to have at home, too. It has all the right elements of game play--adjustable for many age and skill levels, and for single or multiple users.

Ocean Grove, though not the only camp meeting settlement, perhaps has the distinction of being the most successful. Mr. Bell captures much of the essence of the way it was...and leaves the reader-viewer hoping for more.
Captions and diagrams provide a solid foundational peek at the Grove's time gone by, no surprise because of his standing in the local Historical Society. A good look...a good read.

While not a great literary this does provide an excellent photographic history of the this camp meeting town. Material is very useful in documenting architechtural history and outlining the development of the religious community. Recommended to those interested in this history or community.

This is a great little book. The stories will make you think of your friends and family, and also wonder about evolution and if it really works right. Its chapters are short and sweet and enjoyable! If you dont laugh while reading this book, you need some serious help!!!!! Its not for small children but preteens will enjoy it even, as will grandparents and all in between!

We always try to keep a copy or 2 on hand for our guests to read each year at our B&B, the Kenai River Hideaway B&B, and they all get a good laugh going.

Mike Curtain is the most respected newsman in Ohio and this book is required reading for every reporter who wants to understand politics in the Buckeye State. This is not an opinion book or a partisan screed -- that's not Curtain's style. This is a straight-forward and detailed accounting of who got elected, what the trends were, and how each region of the state tends to vote -- and why.

Your Ohio politics library isn't complete without this book.

The most comprehensive source for Ohio politcal history. Not intended to read cover to cover, this almanac is a great fact book. Mike Curtin, former statehouse political reporter and now Editor of The Columbus Dispatch, lives up to his name as THE source for Ohio politics facts.

This book is a delight for young and old alike. I suggest you buy the hardback edition, because it's a book you will want to keep over the generations. Your grandchildren will thank you for it just as much as your children did. Pete Marlowe has a poet's gift for words, so much so that the illustrations--although admittedly charming and thoughtful--aren't strictly necessary to this eloquently told tale that combines a simplicity of spirit with a great warmth of heart.

This book proves once again that Mr. Marlowe is a truly talented writer and follows his wonderful first book with great success.I enjoyed the text very much and the illustrations by Mr. Bell interpret the story in a fantastic way that was entirely unexpected. I look forward to the author's next effort!
