If you've been downsized or fired, have recently graduated from college or graduate school, or are simply unhappy with your career choices, this book lays out a systematic process for finding a new job - one that you will enjoy and that will fit your abilities. Catherine B. Beck recommends starting with a couple of exercises in self-knowledge. First, create a "product profile" of yourself, to help you understand the skills you'll bring to your next position, and then write your ideal job description. She provides detailed advice on setting up a home job-search office, writing a professional-looking resume, surviving the job interview and negotiating a job offer. We recommend this guide to new graduates, employees who want a change and career coaches looking for useful advice to give their clients.

I have been really impressed with this book. It has a lot of great ideas and examples for anyone job hunting or changing careers. I especially liked the interviewing questions with suggested responses and the section on salary and negotiation. I have already recommended this book to several friends and will continue to recommend it to everyone I know who is looking for a job or thinking of getting a new job.

When my husband was considering a job change he found the information in this book to be invaluable in helping him update his resume. The resume guidelines were very helpful in making sure that his resume had a professional appearance and that all the pertinent information was included. The sample resumes and cover letters were a great help as well. This is a comprehensive, easy-to-read guide, and I highly recommend it.

Flawless Book But It Is Time To Update And Revise !

Review Date: 2006-04-07
Jeff Beck's 1965 to 1980 era is vigilantly and tirelessly documented in this comprehensive book. It is now high time to update this book for two reasons. Jeff Beck's guitar virtuosity has actually advanced especially from 1999 to 2005. Lamentably, his popularity has declined. Fellow guitarists consider Jeff Beck the greatest living master, but young guitar fans have failed to embrace the peerless Jeff Beck. Maybe, an updated book will bring Jeff Beck the acclaim that he truly merits !

This book contains so much info you have to read it twice. It is wonderfully written and the pictures are most excellent. It's a very un-biased account of Jeff's daily routines. This is not to be missed.

I recommend this book if you like Jeff Beck, like his genre of music, and don't want to or don't have the time to read a novel. I read this book over a period of 5 months, sometimes as little as a page at a time. I didn't have the feeling of losing the red line or anything like that because I didn't read it quicker. The book gives you a good view at Jeff Beck's career but also generally the music scene during the described time period ('65-'80). The book is written journal-like with almost day by day accounts of concerts. I found that odd at the beginning but got into it as time progressed into the seventies (I'm not much of a Yardbirds fan). The book focuses on the music, gives some account of Jeff Beck's equipment used, and explains interpersonal group dynamics where neccessary. The book is written with its head on its shoulders and does not only quote positive statements about the artist. I've never met Jeff Beck in person but have a feeling this is an objective account of his story. Is it a must-read? Well, I enjoyed it but can only speak for myself. It made me hope he tours at least one more time in the US so I can go see him play live, which I never have so far.

This book is an astounding work, containing a wealth of information on the formative years of British guitar giant, Jeff Beck. Painstakingly researched, the book rewards the reader with stories of star-studded jams, sessions that never reached the public, and years of toil on the road. All the more poignant is the fact that today, Jeff Beck, has continued to scale new heights in creating an original approach not only to the guitar, but to music as well. His new CD, "You Had it Coming", is a finely composed and performed testimony to his artistry. If you enjoy Jeff Beck, you can't be without this book!

Not only is this book a must have for any Jeff Beck fan, but for any fan of rock music and the guitar. Woven in and out of the almost daily chronical of Jeff's life, is rock and roll history. Jam's with Hendrix, collaborations with other artists and multiple versions of the split with the yardbirds makes compelling rock and roll reading.

Viewers, I know Betty Crocker Cookbook has been around for a very long time; long before I knew how to say Betty Crocker, but when I first discovered MaryAnn's Cookbook, I was living in Cali, and I had to order the Cookbook thru a major Bookstore. Upon reciept of the Cookbook, I started with the Meatloaf by the Professor...It is the best I've ever had; now don't get me wrong I do enjoy making meatloaf the ole fashion way, but that recipe will leave you coming back for more. So I relocated to the South, and left my Cookbook with a relative to use, unfortunately, I never got it back, so I contacted every Bookstore in this town, and everyone is sold out, or can't order the Cookbook. So, I saw on the Amazon.com that I could order the Cookbook, and I've always been reluctant about putting my CC number online, so I sent a MO in to the address listed on Amazon, and to no avail, my MO was lost in the shuffle, I went belistic, so I am now forced to put my CC online in order to get the Maryann Cookbook, and I will tell each and everyone out there, if you've tried the rest, then you MUST try Maryann Cookbook, it is the BEST. It's worth losing the money from the MO and having to go another route to get my Maryann Cookbook. God only knows, I wish I could have ordered the Cookbook from Maryann herself, then I know I would have long recieved my Cookbook by now. Again its worth it!!

Mary Ann is the coolest. And man can she cook!!

Every recipe I've tried in this book has been wonderful! There are Gilligan-themed recipes, favorite recipes of cast members, and Dawn Wells' own family recipes, along with an interesting story about her family's history in cooking! (Naturally, there is a plethora of coconut-cream pie recipes as well!!)

Between the recipes are fascinating behind-the-scenes stories about the cast members, Gilligan trivia, and bits of script from the series.

A cute story about a little pig who wants to get something for his mother's birthday.

He isn't able to get the things he wants but in the end is rewarded by the other animals for not taking things that don't belong to him.

Charming story with a good moral lesson about not taking things that don't belong to you and getting along with others.

My children and I both enjoy the story.

My 3-year-old loves this book! We checked it out at the library during her summer reading program and, of the 40 books she "read", this was her favorite. She had me read it over and over until she memorized it and then she read it to us. I am now buying a copy for my niece.

Our 3 year old daughter absolutely loves this story. We borrowed it from the library and have read it daily since. Even our 8 year old loves it too, and volunteers to read it to her sister. Our 3 year old listens so intently to this story that she now reads it to us, almost verbatim. Last night she asked if the library would mind if we kept this book, that it is lovely book and she would like it for herself to read every day forever and ever! Well, here I am this morning ordering our very own copy! Can't get a better recommendation than that!

A little pig wants to make a pie for his mother to give her for her birthday. He wanders through the barnyard, meeting other animals and talking to them. He doesn't pick the flower, because the bee likes it, and stays clear of the grain because the chicken is eating it. In the end, thanks to his friendliness and willingness to respect the needs of others, he is able to make his mother a very fine meal indeed. The story is not scary, and it's great for animal lovers. It has about 300 words.

This was the first book I took out from the library for my 22 month old. He can be quite picky when it comes to the books he likes to read/have read to him. He absolutely loved this book and I am considering buying it for him once we have to return it to the library, as he wants to have it read to him every night before bed. He also loves pointing out all the different animals and objects in the book.

A Great Inspiring Book For Little Minds

Review Date: 2008-11-05
This is the very first book my oldest son has memorized word for word. We used to read to him short stories every night before going to sleep. It is funny how a child's mind works, but he love this book so much. It must have the right formula to pique his mind.

The book is very simple. The illustrations are colorful. It is the story of a young bird who is afraid to fly. Really wanting to join his other brothers who has ventured to another tree, he dared to get to the same tree even when confronted by every obstacles on the road. (He did it by running, jumping, swimming,...) His brothers were so impressed. In the end, he himself was encouraged by his own accomplishments that he was able to brave to try flying for the first time. The last page of the book shows an inspiring image of "Pepito" leading his brothers together in flight.

Up to now, my son still has some fond memories of this book.

Sometimes we need other people to tell us that we are brave enough to try the things we are scared of. My 2 and 1/2 year old loves the story, and we enjoy reading it to her...over & over again.

Fantastic photography in another large book from Versace. This book captures the 'rock chic' glamourama which the late Versace excelled at creating. The association between 'Rock and Roll', and art is full indulged here creating a empirical illusion to the Versace dynasty. The glossy presentation of the images also adds to an overall feeling of luxury. The only reason I have not given this book the top rating is for its inclusion of Elton John - who makes me sick. So what if its expensive, luxuries like this don't come cheap. ciao,

Gianni Versace, a Fashion Genuis

Review Date: 2002-06-11
Gianni Versace was a designer who loved to push the envelope. His clothes were a mixture of extremes: sexy, sleazy, colorful, tacky, and elegant. One adjective you'd never find in a sentence with the word Versace is "boring." His clothes commanded--and often got--attention, which is why he was such a favorite among celebrities such as Madonna, Elton John, Liz Hurley, Courtney Love, Prince, Jon Bon Jovi and even Princess Diana. This book is a fabulous, eye-opening collection of vivid photographs of models and rock stars in Versace: from Prince to the members of British boy band Take That. Some outfits are more releaving than others, but they're all unmistakably Versace. Diana herself is also included in the book, along with a few words of praise for the designer. Tragically, Versace was murdered in the summer of 1997, but his spirit and influence live on. This book comes highly recommended. Drop it on your coffeetable, and your guests won't want to put it down.

I just finished Kenny Beck's book. I found it to be a fantastic look at the struggle of a minor leaguer through his own eyes.

I have covered baseball as a reporter at both the major and minor league level, and have marveled at the striking difference between the two. I knew the families who would host minor leaguers in their "home" cities and towns, and watched them drive into the ballpark in the farthest thing from an SUV you could imagine.

Kenny paints a vivid word picture of life at the lowest of the minor league levels, and depicts his experience with his clear love for the game mixed with just the appropriate amount of bitterness for his short tenure.

If you are a baseball fan, you must read this book.

I purchased this book wanting to read the story of the behind the scenes season in the minor leagues and I was not disappointed. Some of the technical baseball terms were lost on me but I enjoyed the book very much. I have a nephew by marriage that was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals who played 2 seasons in the New York Penn League. It was very interesting to hear how identical and funny Ken Beck's and my nephew's experiences were while playing and traveling through the league. We are season ticket holders for the Aberdeen Ironbirds and we saw Ken Beck pitch at Ripken stadium. I only wish the author could have played the NJ Cardinals when they had the rally cow. The Cardinals put a foul-smelling cow pen right next to the visiting team's bullpen and then they would parade the cow around the stadium during the game. I'm sure he would have had a few interesting words to write about the cow.

today is a good day to read this book

Author Kenny Beck approaches a topic that is rarely discussed in baseball circles, the day to day ups and downs of minor league baseball. When people think about professional baseball they think about large signing bonuses and the celebrity lifestyle. When they think about minor league baseball, they probably think about Bull Durham. Neither truly explains what minor league baseball is actually like. But What Day is Today? gets to the heart of baseball. This is a very well written, insightful, open door look at what life is really like for a minor league player. I recommend this book to all baseball enthusiasts, former players, former baseball parents, and anyone else who wants a great read.

I found it incredibly compelling and well worth reading.

What an inspiring book. Sometimes what should be common sense is easier to digest when it's presented in a format like this book. Most football analogies are lame and overused. Winning in the Fifth Quarter gives a fresh perspective on understanding and reaching your full potential. Great stories! You can almost hear the crowd. Whether you've played the game or not, whether you are a football fan or not, you should get a lift from this book. Wish I had read this when I was 25!!

Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R2EZTW4F02XRBU Do you know the secret of football? You have watched the game, maybe even played it. But, do you know that football has a 5th quarter? Beck entertainingly explains why so many corporations look to hire ex-football players, why this game is so important to our culture, and how anyone can take the lessons football teaches and use them to achieve their life-long dreams.

Players at all levels, parents, and fans all will all benefit from finding out why football is so unique and how is offers timeless lessons that set a foundation for life-long success. As Beck says, "Football is emulates life in many ways. The lessons it offers can help everyone to be build a strong personal foundation."

If you're a player, you need to read this book to remember why you're playing this game. If you're a parent of a player, you might find a great way to relate to your kids about life through the game. But most important, this book is for you, to help you succeed and get the most out of your life! It is not often a book can truly impact a person's life. Success in the 5th Quarter will have a positive impact and make difference to everyone who reads it!

The point at which I am at in my life is a very hard and trying time. I'm a biology major in college and I'm working very hard to get into a medical program. Everyday is a constant battle to study hard, stay healthy, and attempt to maintain some type of social life. I struggle many a morning to rise and go do the monotonous chores of everyday life along with my schooling and such. I was feeling caught in a rut for a while, I felt like I was losing my motivation in certain areas and I began procrastinating on important things, (i.e. exercising, studying, calling family members). And as I'm sure most of whoever is reading this review knows, these are really good things that should never be put off. Now, to the point. After feeling slightly demoralized from the stresses of life I picked up Bob's book. I swear to you, immediately, just after the first chapter, I was hooked! I felt a new fire inside me and inspiration was firmly in my grasp. I discovered new reasons to get motivated and to get back on track. It almost seemed too easy. You must read this book, even if your life is perfect and you never falter, there is definitely something to gain from this read.

TOUCHDOWN! What a great book.

What's up everyone?

Okay, first off, I will be honest, and let you know that I am Bob Beck's publicist. However, I will be even more honest and tell you that I would not have taken Bob on as a client if I didn't honestly think his book was a winner. As a 5-time published author myself, and someone who LOVES inspirational business books, I assure you that this book is truly a gem. It takes a lot to impress me, and Bob Beck has most certainly impressed me. It's rare to find someone who is so successful as a businessman who also wants to help others succeed like he has. Well, that's Bob Beck---a prolific businessman; a former college football player; a wonderful writer. His book, "Winning in the 5th Quarter" is an uplifting, motivational, and easy to read book chock full of gridiron lessons for life. Now, I am not a huge follower of football; rather, I am one of those, 'So who's playing in the Superbowl?' type of fans. And yet, I could understand this book. In fact, I actually know a heck of a lot more about football as a result of reading it. But more importantly, and why I love this book so much, is that I myself now am inspired to 'win in the 5th quarter', because this book is NOT about football; it is about how to apply the lessons of football to the game of life. And play on I shall! You see, I am a pretty successful guy already, but now, after reading Bob's book, I am inspired to become even more successful. Book is a necessary reference for therapists dealing with Bipolar I and II patients. The material is well presented and provides the therapist with source data usable in sessions with Dx patients.

This is an excellent book about cognitive therapy for bipolar disorder. It's a little newer than Basco's book on the same subject- both books are excellent and the reader could consult either or both to learn more about the subject. This book may have been written for psychiatrists and therapists, but I think it's well within reach for the layman, and so can be read by bipolar persons and their families as well. The writing is excellent and book is well organized too. Highly recommended. Avery Z. Conner, author of "Fevers of the Mind".

A complement to recent "encyclopedias" on the subject, this is an outstanding guide for the layman. More writing of this kind will be necessary to help understand this plague of our times. But this is basic, core material. This layman highly recommends it.

The authors, most of who are eminently respected in the field of cognitive therapy, have offered a compassionate and highly useful guide to working with individuals who suffer from manic depression. Their emphasis on respecting the dignity of each person and addressing the significant hopelessness and stigma that often accompany this condition is much needed. Rather than focusing exclusively on the psychopharmacological regimens that are part of the treatment of this disorder, the authors help to explicate the compounding variables such as drug and alcohol abuse, psychosocial and identity issues that complicate treatment. They address important issues such as self-disclosure and bipolar disorder in the practicing clinician, which are usually not mentioned in books about this condition. Their descriptions of the phenomenology of bipolar disorder are helpful and enlightening. All in all, I found this a useful, compassionate and long overdue guide for therapists who work with individuals struggling with this condition.

A compilation of the work of some of the most experienced people in the field, this book is intended to provide clinicians with a rich toolbox of therapeutic interventions including excellent checklists, case studies and counsel. For this subject matter, this book is as good as it gets.

I work with numerous writers. The added value for me in working with someone like Dennis McCurdy is that his writing inspires me, challenges me to take risks, and teaches me valuable lessons.

"Find A Way" stands out from other motivational books in that Dennis McCurdy lived his Find A Way program long before he even knew he had a method. His innate knowledge, bolstered by his years of embracing the writings of other great thinkers, is what sets "Find A Way" apart from other motivational books. The author provides his readers with many practical tools on how to improve their psychology and create success. This book will be helpful to anyone. Whether you are a businessman or woman, househusband or wife, a motivational junky or the average Joe, Find A Way is well worth the modest investment of time and money. This book was intelligently written. The author did not "start at the top" but became very successful by following simple principles and sharing key information, nuances and anecdotes along the way.

Successful people appreciate knowing that everyone feels intimidated or less motivated sometimes. This book helps you to get off the couch or out from behind your desk and go after your goals with a vengeance! I look forward to the next book from this author!
