A wonderful research effort of reading between the lines in regards to allusions of Elizabethan law, barristers, judges, and trials of its day. A commendable effort.

Almost every child could relate to this book in some way as it depicts a variety of typical daily scenes within a community.

This book is a must. It has literally become "my bible" to understanding menopause. The advice is very practical and very easy to follow. Of all the books I have read on menopause this is the most valuable and I constantly refer to it. Definately worth every penny and extremely helpful.

Though the authors now are cooking in heaven, in their day, during the early 1960s, Julia Child and her partners changed the way that America thought about food.

They broadened the awareness of American cooks, and taught us that there was more to cuisine than roast beef and overcooked vegetables: radical concepts at that time. They introduced us to a new battery of utensils, and a new palette of seasonings. Our kitchens never have been the same.

Even today, their recipes remain the best of class and their dissertations on technique remain unequaled in contemporary food writing.

If you are going to have just one cookbook, then MASTERING THE ART OF FRENCH COOKING is that book...if you are going to add a second cookbook, go for Volume Two.

Mastering the Art of French Cooking is a two-volume French cookbook written by the American Julia Child and the Frenchwomen Simone Beck and Louisette Bertholle for the American market and published by Knopf in 1961 (Volume 1) and 1970 (Volume 2).

The book was the result of a collaboration among the three authors and the impetus for Child's long and successful career as one of the pioneering television chefs. Originally published in 1961 after some early difficulties (which are recounted in great detail in Julia Child's memoirs My Life in France), Mastering volume 1 (ISBN 0-375-41340-5) was a broad survey of French flavors and techniques, and grew out of the work the three women had done for their Paris cooking school, "L'école des trois gourmandes" (whose logo Child wore as a badge throughout the production of her first TV series, The French Chef); volume 2 (ISBN 0-394-40152-2), released in 1970, expanded on certain topics of interest that had not been covered as completely as the three had planned to in the first volume. Taken together, the two volumes are considered one of the most influential works in American cookbook history, and Child in particular has long been accorded near-universal respect in the cooking world, in part due to these books' influence.

Volume 1 covers the basics of French cooking, striking as much of a balance as possible between the complexities of restaurant cooking a l'Escoffier and the practicalities of the American home cook. Traditional favorites like boeuf bourguignon, bouillabaisse, and cassoulet are featured, as are extensive instructions on how to prepare vegetables in a manner more appetizing than the practices of the American kitchen of the 1960s. This volume has been through many printings and has been reissued twice with revisions, first in 1983 with updates for changes in kitchen practice (especially the food processor), and then in 2003 as a 40th anniversary edition with an introduction giving a history of the book.

Some classic French baking is also included, but baking got a much more thorough treatment in Volume 2, which was published in 1970 after Bertholle had gone on to other projects. That hope is that all Christians might answer an emphatic yes to a question posed by Christopher Leighton in the prologue: can we learn to live creatively with our religious differences? Most of Norman Beck's book is a study of the beginnings of the problem as found in the New Testament. Then in a final chapter Dr Beck offers a future agenda for Christianity.

Dr. Beck's book is an awesome help to those with sexual issues and problems and want to be proactive in their treatment. She writes about the importance of healthy approact toward sex without stress and guilt. I recommend this book without reservation as it is a great edition to the field.
