Psycologically and philosophically spiralling tale of adventure. Dane Beck's raw and vulgur style pushes the extreme shores
of the imagination. Drifting into the Abyss is undoubtedly a breath of fresh air for the literary world, it contains the
philosophical and adventerous elements of pure storytelling that much of todays writing seems to be lacking. I highly recommend
the book, it has all the creative ingredients for a most euphoric cocktail.

I read the book in my local library. Being an ex-student of Robert Beck, I wanted to see the final product of something he
had been working hard on since before I knew him. I was completely impressed with amount of research put into the book, and
the work putting into cross-referencing. Whether you want to look up a subject of a film, such as heart attack, or a film
he was in, it is in this book. It is a good book for fans, and a great reference book for those who need the information.

my favorite of the Jane DaSilva series

"Electric City" was an enjoyable read for me. I've enjoyed all of K.K. Beck's series about this character, but the atmosphere
and setting in "Electric City" are my favorite to date.
The main premise of the Jane DaSilva series is that Jane, a widowed ex-pat American living in Europe and supporting herself as a torch singer returns to her home-town Seattle to accept a bequest from a rich uncle. But the bequest has some monster strings attached. Jane has to become a "righter of wrongs" as her uncle before her had anonymously done. And she has to do it to the satisfaction of the board of the private foundation appointed by her uncle before his death. If Jane finds and helps people who can't be helped any other way and the board approves what she has done, she gets a more than comfortable income and home from the foundation. If not, Jane is back to making her living as a lounge singer.
In "Electric City" we start by learning about a group of downtrodden employees of a newspaper clipping service, one of whom has disappeared shortly after winning $20,000 on Jeopardy. Jane tries to help find the missing Irene which has her traveling all over the state of Washington to places the vehicle-less Irene had visited for no apparent reason.
The mystery in "Electric City" is a very good one, well conceived and character driven. Jane is likeable and the atmosphere of the book pulled me in. The characters Jane meets are very realistic and dimensional. A good book and a good series. I hope the author writes more.

"Elephants: The Deciding Decade" was one of the first elephant books I purchased. At the time I did not know much about elephants.
This was a great book for me to "cut my baby teeth" on with regards to its vast overview of elephants: their history, social
structure--herds and family groups. It did a good job of discussing young elephants and their behaviors and maturation.
It also had some unique topics (I won't spoil it by saying what they were) that I have not seen in the many, many elephant
books I've read since. This edition has pertinent updates necessary to know about if one is really serious about elephants
and their futures. One of the true joys of this book was the excellent photography. The level of reading is technical at
times, yet easily understood for the most part. A must for the true "elephanatic's" book collection!

My 2 year old son loves all the Elliot Moose and friend's stories (since we started reading them to him when he was a few
months old). He loves to have us read them to him over and over. Recently, he started "reading" them to us! Elliot is such
a loving character, that has fun adventures with his friends. These books also have wonderful illustrations we use to teach
our son, and have him point out things he knows and learn new words.

Heather Beck has a new fan for life. Excursions and Extracurriculars (Fable Farm Vol. 2)is so good. The stories are scary
but also funny. Even my older brother loves this book.
Twenty miles to Nowhere is so scary. I love the ending of that story. Actually I love all the endings and the middles and beginnings too. All the characters and cool and life-like! H. Beck is a very talented writer and also very nice to her fans. She actually repsonded to my email!

For those readers, who are personally related to them, you might find it fascinating to read about the adventures of traveling and living in South America during Bolivia's cultural revolutions.
