Perfect Baby Shower Gift!

Review Date: 2008-11-16
My children grew up with Beatrix Potter books, the small books they could easily hold, so I was thrilled to find The World of Peter Rabbit Gift Box 1 when searching for a co-worker's baby shower gift. The box itself is very sturdy, heavy,& durable, with a substantial latch, while the books are dust jacketed hardback books that are just the right size for a toddler's hands. Books 1-12 were the ones my children enjoyed more than some of the more obscure titles, so this set was a good grouping. This is a high quality treasure that can be passed down through the generations. I could find this product only online, and Amazon's price was the best.

I've loved the Beatrix Potter books forever, so when my friend (50 years old!) had her first babies...twins, no less....I thought this would be the perfect gift. She told me that it was the best gift she received! These are high quality books and are packaged beautifully.

It is nice to read books for a 3 year old that don't deal with wicked witches trying to harm pretty maidens and prince charmings saving the day. After watching the movie about Beatrix Potter my little girl said she wanted to read the Peter Rabbit books and I ordered this set. Each book is the perfect size for little hands with lots of pictures of animals and a gentle story without traumatizing stories. What a change from the plots of Snow White etc. I like those stories but night after night she is bound to have nightmares.

This was a great Christmas gift for three young children who are fans of Peter Rabbit. Provided several gifts for each, and they can pass around and share. The small size of the books are something very young children (around three or four years of age) really like and can handle easily. The carrying case was also a hit.

This is a cute story about a frog name Mr. Jeremy Fisher, who have friends over for dinner and he figured, he should catch some minnows for the. While was fishing he has quite a bit of an adventure.

Another beautifully illustrated short story for children by Beatrix Potter. A good choice to read out loud to little kids during story time. I quite enjoy the short story and it's one of the stories a kid really got to have in their reading list as they are growing up.

This cute little book was written and illustrated by the great Beatrix Potter (1866-1943) in 1906, the eighth of her many wonderful stories. This book tells the tale of Mr. Jeremy Fisher, a frog who decides to go fishing for minnows, so that he can have his friends over for dinner. But, Mr. Fisher never anticipated the many problems his little fishing excursion would run into!

Overall, I found this to be a very cute story, and a lot of fun to read to my little one. Mr. Fisher's damp home is funny, as is his aplomb in facing his problems. This is a great book, that I highly recommend!

I was given this book when I was ten, and it is now a favorite of my three year old. She especially loves that Mr. Jeremy's house is "slippy-sloppy" and that he likes getting his feet wet. The story is fun and funny, and Potter's use of language is intelligent. This is the kind of book that inspires children to be better speakers. Any children's writer who uses words like "disconsolately" is five stars to me!

Like so few of Potter's books, this one actually makes sense and lives up to its legend. The gags are still funny for starters and there are few, if any, arcane references to long gone trivia. The minor characters are even fun.
My own favorite thing about Jeremy Fisher is that he is eaten, then spit back out because his rain gear doesn't taste good to the fish who's swallowed him! How many books do you know where the main character is eaten? Good stuff.

WWII depicted through the eyes of a child. It is a rare opportunity to get a glimpse of this important piece of history from inside the German perspective. What have we learned from this piece of history? Or have we learned anything at all? A beautiful and thought-provoking piece of prose.

Authentic - believable - thought and heart engaging

Yes, the stories are written with an almost magical prose. Yes, the setting is a magnetic stage both for the horrific time in history and the lure of a country estate regardless of where or when. But even more, the once fragmented memories of a tiny child prove thought and heart engaging by the power magnification through the lens of the time and perspective of the woman who lived them. This book had the remarkable power of engaging my heart as a study by the woman who was once the tiny --learning, recording, reflecting-- girl. I couldn't put the book down. Read it!

It was as if I had been invited into the family. The writing is so visual one can actually see through the eyes of little Beatrix her view of life during the war. I didnt want the stories to end. I highly recommend this wholly other of view of WWII.

Children have their own perspectives on war: it's exciting, it's cruel, and it's endlessly fascinating. Beatrix Ost brings this perspective to life masterfully. Her story of a "good" German family in war-torn Germany will become one of the classics.

I was deeply moved by this passionate and elegant depiction of a world we seldom see, that of the good Germans in the WWII period, and of the way that the evil around them impinged on their lives, and of the ways that their lives kept right on going despite all that. The prose is stunning, the imagery beautiful, and the whole thing suffused with profound love. I recommend it unconditionally.

I had this book as a child and thought I would never again set eyes on these wonderful illustrations by Beatrix Potter. I didn't even know the title of the book, only remember an untidy "lady mouse" character in the story named Hunka Munka. My husband suprised me with this book as an adult and seeing those beautiful illustrations swept me directly back to my childhood. I realised that I had never read the story, I had memorized the illustrations at an age before I could read.

This is a fabulous little book and the illustrations are so magical that they may stay embedded in a child's memory until adulthood. That's what happened for me and to this day, I treasure this book.

When I was a girl, my mother read this book to me over and again. I remember begging her to read it to me, and when I was old enough reading it myself. I thoroughly enjoyed the characters, including the "Two bad mice", and as in all Beatrix Potter books it is well written and a lesson is well learned. I am looking forward to reading this book to my own children (which is why I am on Amazon.com looking for it).

"Appley Dapply's Nursery Rhymes," by Beatrix Potter, is a great example of the whimsical charm of this great children's author. The rhymes are accompanied by Potter's whimsical, richly detailed illustrations of her animal characters. A typical rhyme: "Gravy and potatoes / In a good brown pot-- / Put them in the oven, / and serve them hot!"

In this book we meet such characters as old Mr. Pricklepin the hedgehog, and a dapper guinea pig. And in Potter's version, the old woman who lived in a shoe is a mouse. A fun, timeless book.

Mother Goose is not the only one who knows how to write nursery rhymes! This book is a collection of seven charming nursery rhymes by Beatrix Potter. Each one deals with animals such as little mice, rabbits, a hedgehog, a mole, a pig and a guinea pig. The paintings are as usual quaint and lovely. A wonderful companion book is "Cecily Parsley's Nursery Rhymes" also by this talented author and illustrator. I always love Ms. Potter's books and this collection of rhymes is a great way to introduce young children to her magical world of intriguing human-like animal characters.

This is a very cute little book of seven nursery ryhmes, Beatrix Potter style. It is, of course, illustrated with little animals as the characters, showing exactly what the rhyme would be. It is cute, and the rhymes are nice to just memorize and teach to your brothers, sisters, or little cousins. This is yet another great Beatrix Potter book. I especially like the little rhyme about farming and the little guiena pigs are working hard. They are so cute, especially the one with the little green raincoat. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes animals.

Cecily Parsley's Nursery Rhymes is Beatrix Potter's second collection of nursery rythmes, the first being Appley Dapply's Nursery Rhymes. Some are familiar like "Three Blind Mice" and "This Pig Went to Market", while others such as "The Guinea-Pig's Garden" are her own. As always the illustrations are lovely and I especially like the two for the "Cecily Parsley" verse. This little book is perfect for young children.

but loved the book and can't wait to own my own copy of the DVD. I've been a big fan of Beatrix Potter ever since my daughters were born and I read her many books to them as children. Today I find myself reading these same stories to my grandchildren. I loved this book because it showed all that went into making the movie. I couldn't help but admire the actors and actresses who were fortunate enough to be a part of this wonderful film. If you admire Beatrix Potter you must add this book to your collection. I have along with the wonderful books written by Susan Wittig Albert.

I have always loved Beatrix Potter's children's tales, and the movie version of her life starring Renee Zellweger, "Miss Potter" was a true classic...moving in its character exploration, beautiful in its execution and depiction of the beauty of the Lake District, and truly inspiring. If you loved the movie or are simply a fan of all things Potter [Beatrix, not the wizard]...you'll love & treasure this guide to the movie. It is lushly illustrated with full-color pictures, and takes readers behind the scenes of the movie, with insights by the director, producer, scriptwriter, and Zellweger herself. I also plan to get 'Beatrix Potter: A Journal",and "At Home with Beatrix Potter: The Creator of Peter Rabbit" to add to my collection.

Adults love her too!
