The book has many cute projects. I wanted more of a hand painted look for the walls in my nursery, so the stencils included were a little too "simple." Lots of decoupage pictures for accessories or enlarging on a color copier.

A great book to begin, complete, or complement your baby's room. Most of the projects in the book are very easy and do not require major time to make. If you are into painting, the stencils are perfect for you.

When I first began this book, I was a bit skeptical. I wasnt sure at all that I could make it through the whole thing. But after a few chapters, I found myself falling in love with Miss Potter. It is a great story, for unlike most biographies I have read, It ends on a happy note. Her final years were much better than her first.

The remarkable story of a very private life.

The late Margaret Lane, President of The Women's Press Club, the Dickens Fellowship, the Johnson Society, the Brontë Society and the Jane Austen Society has written this charming little book about Beatrix Potter.

Beatrix Potter's life was a very private one, carefully hidden from the public eye, although she is known and loved by generations of children. Her life began in joylessness and solitude, with drawing as her one fascination.

In the book we follow Beatrix Potter through her sad childhood, her struggle for independence, her illfated love affair and happy marriage, and we learn about how she created all these charming and whimsical characters - Peter Rabbit, Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle, Jemima Puddle-Duck, Tom Kitten and so many more. The book is illustrated with old photographs, and pen and ink illustrations by Beatrix Potter herself. A must for any Beatrix Potter lover.

I've always loved Beatrix Potter's book series, and this commemorative edition is especially loveable that it's an imitation of the original books Ms. Potter had her publisher published to fit little children's little hands. My 6 yr old son loves it and began to read it as soon as he received it. I only wish that Amazon has more of these commemorative editions for her other books. I love Amazon's fast & free shipping, and best deals!

This book (as do all of hers) captures the imagination of children completely. They LOVE to have this story about a very naughty squirrel and very scary old owl read to them. (who knew impertinent squirrels and creepy owls were so much fun!) Her words are only a well-chosen few, which makes it easy for small children to follow, but not simplistic, so that they learn to understand sophisticated vocabulary. The few words are augmented by exquisite watercolors that tell so much more of the story, and make the children crave to hear them again and again. For instance, I'll never forget the relief and also confusion i used to feel every time he got away -- mainly because of the picture that went with it, which is still in my mind today. Oh, and, one more thing -- the reviewer below who characterized this tale as rude, violent and gory, also said this about The Tale of Jeremy Fisher: "My own favorite thing about Jeremy Fisher is that he is eaten, then spit back out because his rain gear doesn't taste good to the fish who's swallowed him! How many books do you know where the main character is eaten? Good stuff." So, Leggo, it's ok to eat frogs but not squirrels?

This is a story of a naughty little squirrel name Squirrel Nutkin, who loves to tease Mr. Brown, an owl who lives on an island filled with nut trees, which fancy the other squirrels. Daily the squirrels came bringing gifts to Mr. Brown as to gain permission to harvest these nuts in return.

While they are being polite, Squirrel Nutkin is prety much very naughty. He teases him with riddles, mostly ignore by the owl but when too much is too much one day, Mr. Brown punished Nutkins by having his tail torn off!

This is a cute and enjoyable little story. It also teaches kids to not to tease people too much that they are out of line. The illustrations are beautiful. The riddles are cute. The plot and charcaters draws you in. Children would love to read or to be read to with this funny little "tail". Don't miss out inadding this book to your children's reading list.

This is a delightful timeless Tale about an misbehaving squirrel. The riddles are delightful, and the vocabulary exquisite.

Unfortunately, some of the reviewers have looked at this story with the eyes and wisdom of this present age. In time, we will see value in teaching that good can overcome evil, rather than pretending that evil simply doesn't exist. Owls do eat squirrels, impertinance is punished. That is life.

Also, to say that he gnaws his tail off is absolutely untrue and ridiculous. It breaks(gorelessly)in the struggle.

I love it, as does my daughter.

Squirrel's Tail Tale

Review Date: 2007-04-11
Squirrel Nutkin was one of the finest and most imaginative of Ms Potter's stories and the only one I place above it is the Tale of Peter Rabbit. Nutkin is the name of a cheeky and insolent squirrel who thinks far too much of himself until he is caught by an Owl who has both patience and wisdom as he endures many insults from Nutkin. At last he reacts and it appears that it is the end for the impudent squirrel. At the last moment he escapes from the owl's home when his tail breaks in two and he scurries off to safety. He is left with a partial tail as a reminder to mind his manners in the future. An important correction is necessary regarding this owing to an error in an above review. Nutkin did NOT chew his tail off to escape and I invite the reviewer to actually read the book so she understands this important point. This is a wonderful story for young children with many inportant messages. My own children greatly enjoyed these tales when they were young and still talk about them from time to time. There is a reason why Beatrix Potter's books remain among the best selling childrens books of all time. Her stories and the lessons therein are timeless and the moral absolutes are of critical value at a time when our anything goes culture is in chaos and espouses the worst behavior possible. It is truly refreshing and hopeful that brilliant childrens tales written in 1903 still have much to teach us in 2007.

This cute little book was written and illustrated by the great Beatrix Potter (1866-1943) in 1903, the second of her many wonderful stories. This book tells the tale of Squirrel Nutkin, who refuses to show respect for an important owl, and pays the price.

Overall, I found this to be a cute story, and a lot of fun to read to my little one. The "riddles" are obvious in their answer, but still a lot of fun to read. So, as with all of Ms. Potter's works, I highly recommend this book!

The Beatrix Potter Peter Rabbit tales were some of my favorite stories during childhood. I purchased this collection for my child.

It is truly a beautiful collection edition. I love how the books are the perfect size for small hands. The reproductions of Potter's illustrations are elegant and true to life.

Beatrix Potter's stories are intelligent, heartwarming, and fun classics. They are a great educational tool for children. I highly recommend this edition and the companion box set of stories 13-24.

We were very disappointed in this item and returned it. It is described as being 13.2 x 10.0 x 7 inches when it actually measures 6 x 5.5 x 4.5 inches. It you are looking for a nice little item to put on a shelf - this is it. If you are looking for books for a child to handle and enjoy, these are too small.

When our two-year-old grand-daughter opened the package and found the darling "suitcase" of miniature books, there were squeals of delight. From all the adults who were familiar with Beatrix Potter. She, of course, doesn't yet know. But it's a fine gift to give, knowing she will find out for herself.

I love these books and so does my daughter. We did purchase the Great Big Treasure edition and she didn't like the stories because she had too many pictures on a page to deal with. We got a couple of the small ones on tape at the library and she loved them. The language is rich, the characters are adorable (they are really just little people with fur), and the illustrations are extremely artistic. Not like some of the cartoony junk getting published today. If you're looking for dumbed down kids cartoon books like Dora the Explorer, this isn't for you, but if you want stories with imagination, told with rich language, these are timeless classics.

Lucy is a human character introduced to the Peter Rabbit series, has a bad habit of losing her pocket-handkerchiefs and this time she lost 3. She search for it high and low but couldn't find them anywhere. But what she found something else in the hills while searching and it is a door going straight into the hill.

There, she meets an intriguing character with "hairpins" sticking out of her back who calls herself Mrs Tiggy-Winkle, who happens to be a washerwomen for all of the other animals. Turned out her missing hankies and pinny are being wash by Mrs Tiggy-Winkle.

This is an interesting book and my favorite part is the ever so questions answered with "it you please'em". Beautiful colourful illustration to enjoy. Weird storyline though but it's an interesting non the less. Kids owuld enjoy this with an awe. Not a keeper but it's a good read.

Lucy is always misplacing her things. No matter how good she tries to be, she still loses her hankies and other things. One day, she decided to go on a hunt for her hankies. Along the way, she asks creatures if they've seen her handerchief. And she meets Mrs. TIggy-Winkle.

It is a charming story with beautiful illustrations. My boys really enjoy looking at the pictures of this book! I enjoy reading this one to them! When they are older, this book will be perfect for their beginner's lessons. The pictures are charming and the story itself is lovely.

"The Tale of Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle" is another perfectly splendid story by Beatrix Potter. This time the author introduces a human character to the world of animals. A little girl, Lucie, has a bad habit of losing her pocket-handkerchiefs. On this particular day she has lost three, as well as a pinny. She goes searching for them in the hills where she finds a door going straight into the hill. When she opens it she discovers a clean kitchen and a peculiar little person. Her name is Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle and she is a washer-woman. Lucie's missing hankies and pinny are being washed and ironed by her. I love the way Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle's little black nose goes sniffle, sniffle, snuffle, and her eyes go twinkle, twinkle. Also, the way she always answers questions with "if you please'm". The illustrations are nice and children will enjoy Ms. Potter's beautiful narrative and finding out Mrs Tiggy-Winkle's true identity.

A wonderful addition to any Potter fan's library!

Review Date: 2007-07-05
I found a copy of this edition at a library booksale and bought it as I have always loved Beatrix Potter's whimsical tales. This edition has 13 stories in it comprising:
The Tale of Peter Rabbit
The Tailor of Gloucester
The Tale of Squirrel Nutkin
The Tale of Benjamin Bunny
The Tale of Two Bad Mice
The Tale of Mrs Tiggy-winkle
The Pie and the Patty-Pan
The Tale of Mr Jeremy Fisher
The Story of a Fierce Bad Rabbit
The Story of Miss Moppet
The Tale of Tom Kitten
The Tale of Jemima Puddle-duck, and
The Roly-Poly Pudding

The illustrations are in both color and black and white, and my only grouse is that they are a bit small, there are on average, 3 illustrations per page, and together with the text, that seems a bit crowded. I think this edition is more suitable for older children and adults than younger children. I know that my two-year-old prefers the individual books [one story per book] where its not only more compact for little hands to handle but also has bigger illustrations.

On the whole though, I feel this is a great addition to one's library, and makes for easy carrying around...I love to read these stories on rainy days, as it warms my heart:)

Issues with the Edition, Not the Stories

ISBN: 0517449013 - The stories are wonderful, but the pictures in this edition are too small. I also prefer 1 picture per page, so my son can know which picture I am reading about without having to point. My 3 year old likes the small Beatrix Potter books from our local library that have 1 story per book so he can quickly look at the front cover to decide which story to read, and are small enough to fit perfectly in his hand.

Note: As other reviewers have mentioned, the language is sometimes outdated, but don't let that discourage you from reading these wonderful stories to your children. Just take your time with the books and explain where needed. For example, in the story of Peter Rabbit, there is a part that reads: "Peter gave himself up for lost". After reading this part to my son for the first time I would just casually say "Oh no! Peter didn't think he could get away." Or if your child is coming across a new word for the first time, say the word, then give a synonym that your child does know to go with it. I sometimes have my son act out a part in the story to help with comprehension as well. ("Can you 'tremble with fright' like Peter?") By the time you read the story 2-3 times while giving short explanations as you go, your child will fully understand the story and as an added bonus will have a better vocabulary.

Contains all the popular Beatrix Potter Stories, plus a few less known. Contents are The Tale of Peter Rabbit, The Tailor of Gloucester, The Tale of Squirrel Nutkin, The Tale of Bejamin Bunny, The Tale of Two Bad Mice, The Tale of Mrs. Tiggy-winkle, The Pie and the Patty-Pan, The Tale of Mr. Jeremy Fisher, The Story of a Fierce Bad Rabbit, The Story of Miss Moppet, The Tale of Tom Kitten, The Tale of Jemima Puddle-duck and The Roly-Poly Pudding

The book has two or three original illustrations on each page, so Peter Rabbit only takes 9 pages. A pretty good collection for the price -- though some of these stories are pretty forgettable.

This Beatrix Potter inspired book is filled with lovely patterns of things to make. 40 projects in all(listed below) mostly needlepoint, but with a few surprise extras; to go along with an adorable needlepointed pin cushion cover inspired by the story of Mrs. Tittlemouse, Pat Menchini includes a pattern for a knitted blanket that Mrs. Tittlemouse uses in her own bed. Pat Menchini goes directly to heart of the stories and drawings and uses her imagination in the creation of these lovely, and whimisical projects. Colour coded charts are fairly easy to read. If you like the tales of Beatrix Potter, you will enjoy this book and the making of these projects. Mr. J. Fisher needlepointed tea cosy, squirrels on a log firescreen & squirrel with nut cushion based on the tale of Squirrel Nutkin(my favourite), oak leaves&ribbon rug, needlepoint, Tom Kitten cushion, patchwork shawl, fruit design pelmet, a Potter study on fruits, but it works up like a Kaffe Fassett creation, Hunca Munca floor runner-cross stitch, Hunca Munca table runner-cross stitch, floral stool cover, Tailor of Gloucester chair seat cover & tapestry work bag, lacy stole, 'busy mouse' picture, Lakeland landscape & Hill top by night picture, Mrs. Tittlemouse basket lid and coverlet, Peter Rabbit rug, Fungi&Roships basket lid, cottage afghan, The Sad Rabbit cushion, birth sampler-cross stitch, foxglove bell pull, rose rug, tablecloth(embroidery), bedspread(embroidered&crochet border) rosebud&heart cushion, heart pin cushion, pansy rug & cushion, mohair rug, Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle wall hanging, robin card, Jemima Puddle Duck card, heartease picture, tulip cushion, Tabitha Twitchit's miniature picture.
