Davies products are always a good buy. You should get several different reviews and study them all, but if you need just a
comprehensive reminder and study guide, then this is the one. It is worth the money!

This is a fascinating history of lace throughout Europe during Queen Victorias' reign. An excellent, and quite readable discussion
of lace and lacemaking during the era. Information of machine laces and a section of basic information on how lace was made
by hand are also included. Do not look for patterns or serious instruction here, but rather what was made when and where
and how it was used during the period covered. A must for anyone interested in lace, the Victorian era, or fashion history.

What a wonderful memoir.
Stanley Matthews was one of the greatest footballers ever, and in this book tells his story with humour, but without the bravado of our era.
He gives us lovely images of the players of his time, and the games they played.
Makes one wish that one could go back in time.

This is a long, long poem that first surfaced in the 1970s in Reno, Nevada. The author, Paul J. Lyon, gave a series of readings
with a group of poets and the series was called "Panama Beaver Readings." The chapbook here may be either one published in
1976 ("Limp Leather Edition") or one from 1993 ("Lyon's Cheap Library"). The poetry is unlike anything you might be expecting,
and is very humorous, a sort of combination Walt Whitman and Kurt Vonnegut. It tells the saga of Jesse James as he travels
around the Wild West trapped between time periods and moral questions. The poet kept claiming that the whole work was over
a thousand pages long; every public reading was of an entirely different chapter. The published part contains only the first
few chapters. Lyon also gave readings in New Mexico, Arizona, Washington (state), and California, and yet the fate of the
work itself remains a mystery. The poetry that he did publish is about the best poetry you will ever read. No other parts
of the epic were ever published.

This is a great cookbook. She has tons of healthy recipes that taste good. There is a calorie/nutritional breakdown for each
recipe. Many recipes are vegan, and most can be made vegan if one wishes. But, if you are a meat eater, many of these recipes
would be great with a smaller serving of meat added; for instance- sausage will go just fine in the Jambalaya recipe. And,
of course, all meat eaters could serve these as healthy side dishes.
The recipes aren't terribly innovative or weird, just well planned vegetarian recipes that use natural ingredients to make a great tasting healthy dish.

told -- I'm not that old). I found it enlightening.

This book has been invaluable in helping me rethink the management of my writing program. The authors remind us that writing
is not a step by step formula, but a social process, in which the writer has a purpose and audience and expects a response
from the audience. The text is full of classroom anecdotes, and practical ideas and strategies for teaching and assessing.
Would be a great book-study book!

This book does a rare and fine job of leveraging the artifacts and paintings of a museum -- supplemented by highly relevant
paintings from other sources -- and making the period to which the pieces relate come alive. Admittedly, as a Bostonian,
I may have a special susceptibility to the subject matter, but the juxtaposition of the background historical material against
the narratives of individual mariners makes a very attractive and instructive whole.
Among the interesting facts to emerge from the book are the origin of the phrase Boston Brahmin. Although we know it was coined by Oliver Wendell Homes, Sr. in Autocrat of the Breakfast Table, the influence was direct from the Yankee trade with India. Although New York had long eclipsed Boston and Philadelphia as major ports for maritime trade, nonetheless Boston, Salem and Newburyport were the prime ports for the India trade, which began after the Revolutionary War (because the monopoly of the British East India Company no longer held for American traders).
Perhaps the most fascinating part is near the end of the book, where a young Mr. Blood describes a walk around Calcutta, including all of the sights, smells and emotions one would encounter.

Come see what the gang's dreaming about! I'm not sure about all the philosophy, but I understand this-"do not forget to play."
Ultimately, fun is what ropes me in. As a cataloger, I see books everyday, and it's not all textbooks on stochastic membranes
and non-linear algebras-I see a fair number of comics. This one caught my eye and imagination. It's a comic that's fun to
read and re-read-I notice something new every time. Read the words! See the pictures! See the (truly spectacular) cat wrangling!
Can't wait for the next Zoo Force! (p.s. check out "Dear Eniko", ISBN: 0974314714)
