Pork and Beans: Play Date, a hilariously funny book

Pork and Beans: Play Date by Jovial Bob Stine is a hilariously funny book about siblings and their friends when and how they play together. My boys and I would get this book from out local library every chance we got. It made us all laugh so much when I read it to my very active and sometimes argumentative boys. It would make us laugh because it reminded us so much of our family. The mom in the book would remind me of me, especially on many occasions when my boys would argue while playing and I would say, "Play something else!" just like the mom in the book. If this book is no longer available that's quite a shame but I'm sure many libraries still have it. Get it, read it, and get ready for a real treat of a story. Barbara Chang

This book is a must-have for the professor of mathematics. My Dad, Joe Sharp, and my uncle Jack Sharp, with their Auburn buddy Phillip Bean worked for years and years on this book, and their effort, as the reader will see, was very much worth the time they spent.

A very excellent text about the Ice Age and its animals

This book joins "Ice Age Mammals of North America" as one of the exceptionally fine recent texts about the vanished large animals living on the North American continent during the Ice Age. Many of these marvelous creatures vanished less than 10,000 years ago, a heartbeat in geological time. You will be particularly struck by the superb, in-full-color computer graphics and photography in the book. The two arts are combined to give astonishing looks at what these animals looked like in their native habitats. If the book contained little more, it would be worth it on this basis alone. But there is much more to recommend the book

After a good introduction, this book examines life during the recent glaciation, and into today, by region. Six regions are encompassed. The first is never-glaciated Beringia, consisting of Alaska and the Bering Sea land bridge. Then, in turn, come the northwestern United States coast, the Great Plains, the Colorado Plateau and Great Basin, Florida, and the Eastern forest. The differences, and similairties, between the Ice Age climates and fauna are carefully explored for each area. Certain key animals in each region are analyzed by in-chapter profiles.

These descriptions are completely up-to-date, and are accompanied by the excellent graphics previously discussed. Animals reviewed in this manner include two varieties of mammoth, the mastodon, the saber-toothed and scimitar cats, the giant. armadillo-like glyptodont, the giant short-faced bear, which was bigger than a Kodiak bear, and several varieties of ground sloth. You will also learn that quite a few animals survived the extinctions, including the moose, musk ox, grizzly bear, bison, elk, as well as many animals that lived on in Eurasia, but not here, such as the horse, the saiga antelope, cheetah, lion, camel, zebra, and the wisent, or European bison.

In the closing chepter, the authors examine the possible reasons for the sudden extinctions of so many large, dominant animals within the span of a few thousand years. These include overkill by man, climatic change, and several other reason. The discussion is timely, thorough and apt.

This book will provide many days of enjoyable, provocative reading. Given ongoing changes in weather, loss of wildlife habitat, and the like, are we continuing, and even accelerating these extinctions? This book offers excellent food for thought on such matters, but I will leave the ultimate decision to the reader, upon reflection.

Very, very highly recommended to anyone with a high school or greater background, including graduate students and academics. Enjoy, and ponder.

Tawra's written another frugal winner. My 15 year old daughter took it and read it first! She loves Not Just Beans as much as I do, so she knew this would be fabulous too!

The recipes are so fantastic. They're fun and easy to follow!

There are lots of practical recipes and frugal tips in Pretty For Pennies.

Buy this book, you won't be disappointed and it won't take too much effort to SAVE on homemade beauty products, what you spent on the book!

Thanks Tawra for another time and money saver!

This is a positive, uplifting book about a bratty girl named Sarah, and the transformation she undergoes when her father loses all of his money. She has to learn the value of hard work, and to love without expecting anything in return. My children love it, especially where Sarah gets her "crown".

Here's an 80-page cookbook that's great for any young family on a tight budget. These recipes call for very little meat, and they supplement that protein with the goodness of beans---of all kinds.

My favorites are the Chile Con Carne and Enchiladas, although there are also dishes like Three Bean Nut Salad, which minus the half-cup of diced bacon called for becomes a delicious vegetarian meal, all by itself.

The same is true of the Taco Chili Bean Salad, which can be made with extra beans instead of a half pound of ground beef.

There are also some fabulous salads here, like the Indonesian Hot Rice Salad, with brown rice, pineapple, scallions, bean sprouts, peanuts, sesame seeds, cashew nuts and cored red peppers. Delicious. A definite help in any kitchen.

When you are doing mindless typing and have the ability to listen to audio books for something uplifting and entertaining this collection has just that. In most cases after I have read a borrowed book from my best friend or the public library I am finding that I will also purchase the unabridged audio book. This works great when you can not sleep at night.

For the people who enjoy detailed writing, a multitude of characters and just a great emotional roller coaster, well Sandra Brown's romance collection has everything. Thank you for keeping me entertained.

An avid fan of excellent "Romance Stories"

I read one chapter a day of The Secret of the Missing Grave to my students in grades three through six in preparation for a visit from the author, David Crossman. At the end of each chapter there was always a chorus of, "No! Don't stop now!" as new plot twists kept readers on the edge of their seats. The end of the book had students begging for the sequel, Mystery of the Black Moriah. There was not a single student, boy or girl, third grader or sixth grader, who was not enthralled with the book.
