This book has 1 main character, Will Dean, and three secondary level characters that change his life forever. It is a suspenseful story of an attorney brought up on 1st degree murder charges and only he really knows that the killing was in self-defense. This book is not of the courtroom genre but looks at the effects the legal system has on a number of people. The book raises interesting thoughts on the death sentence and even hints at a theory of the JFK assassination. I found the book easy to read, very suspenseful and yet I felt I got to know Will and his family personally. Some of the violence is graphic but is not superfluous to the story. I would highly recommend the book to anyone who loves a good, thought provoking read.

This is a wonderful story in a refreshing Texas setting. A strong woman character that is fighting her way to respect in the good ole boy system. I can't wait to read what happens in the next one!

This book is absolutely fantastic. Dr. Elizabeth De Wolfe tells the elusive story of Berengera Caswell/Mary Bean in a chilling way, but includes interesting facts about 1850. As a reader, I truly felt like I was being transported to Saco Maine in 1850 and found this poor girl's body strapped to a board in the culvert of Woodbury Brook. A fascinating story, and a wonderful true crime read!

When they are done with the Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys, The Secret of the Missing Grave and the sequel The Mystery of the Black Moriah are a good move. They are fast paced and enjoyable with just enough "As if!" to keep it fun. They are not gory, and the characters (who are 14) are believable and not boring.

Cathie Katz's amusing drawings and text should inspire every Florida resident and visitor to hit the beach. How many of us wander the beaches, picking up this and that, wondering just what the heck it is. This book will tell you...and a lot more. A small collection of sea beans and mermaid's purses has already amassed on my porch; as for the laughing gulls, I'll admire them in their natural habitat.

Margaret Swain has done a fantastic job of writing what is essentially an historical book on thee influences on Mary Queen of Scots needlework, and it makes fascinating reading.

Swain has traced her life and the types of embroidery and needlework she did in Scotland, later in France and then finally during her last captivity in England. The clever messages she used to send in her embroideries as messages to her supporters, and the puns in many of her chosen subjects are explained.

What I found most wonderful in this book is that while I have always admired the needleword of MQS I have never really understood its significance. Margaret Swain really brought that side of it alive for me and left me with a far deeper appreciation of what they were all about.

I have the soft cover version of this which is excellent value, it has some kind of hard wearing plastic coating which makes it almost as durable as the hard cover version. Really unfortunately there are only two pages of colour illustration in here and I think the embroidery of MQS deserves better illustration than that. It is certainly generous with the black and white pictures.

We stand today in a remarkable period as the twentieth century comes to a close. Significant events in the latter half of this century have transformed research in the life and times of Jesus of Nazareth. With the founding of the State of Israel, the rebirth of the Hebrew language, and the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls, the building blocks for unique and serious biblical research have been established for the first time since the close of the First Century.

With this in mind William Bean has written in a clear and concise manner the results of this comprehensive research. Having traveled extensively to Israel, Bill has interacted with many of the scholars who are engaged in this timely research, and in turn effectively communicates this important information to the lay person. Bill Bean believes it's essential to understand the New Testament from a "Hebraic Perspective", in order to give accurate insight into the culture and language, and to understand and interpret the text as was understood in the First Century. With this method used, one can experience the fullness of Faith and hear Jesus speak as those of His time heard Him.

I have really enjoyed both of the "Victory" mysteries. The author has a fluid, folowing style that transports the reader to small-town Wyoming. Secretly, it's a place all urban dwellers would love to migrate to, even if it means an occasional murder.

A.D. Winans has been writing poetry that matters for years. In this new collection, we find a bit of his old stuff as well as a bit of his new stuff. Either way, the effect is the same--brilliant poetry. This isn't everyday run-of-the-mill tomfoolery--this is poetry that lashes out at injustice. Winans has a way of bordering between the political and personal, and it works. I highly recommend this book to long time Winans fans as well, as newcomers to his work. It's a joy to read. Plus, the 20 odd photos in the book give it a personal, historical feel. This is one of the major poetry books of the year.
