As far as books centered around "Green" marketing go, Bev Oster's "Know Beans about Green" blows all of the others out of their recycled water! It is provoking, inspirational and above all fun! I've read other marketing "Green" books like John Grant's "Green Marketing Manifesto" and Christiane Katharina Murr's "Beyond Green Marketing" and although they are pretty well written, they are often preachy, and tend to amble around like a tortoise on Ambien. Bev Oster's "Know Beans about Green" takes a fresh and relevant idea and blends it seamlessly into a narrative that is both engaging and enlightening.

There was a time when these kinds of photographs were all gay men were able to look at. "Physique Magazines" were code words for male body magazines, and Chuck Renslow was at the forefront of this movement. His KRIS studios captured images of men as early as the 1950's. Written by Joseph W. Bean in 2007 with commentary from Chuck Renslow, this book contains 157 pages of Kris images, black & white and color, along with the behind the camera scoop on the models as told by Chuck himself. As the founder of International Mr. Leather, Mr. Renslow was never shy from articles of fetish appearing in he photography, and that is in evidence here. The images are iconic and Mr. Renslow's added comments offer humor and history. A very worthwhile addition to American Gay history and that of how we've viewed ourselves across the years, "KRIS - The Physique Photography of Chuck Renslow" is a must own.

A wonderful book...great for beginners

I recently acquired an older SLR camera and picked up this book because of my interest in outdoor photography. I had very little experience with a manual camera, so the fact that this book was a little older appealed to me (most of the newer books seem to focus mainly on the digital medium) This book is really amazing, and it's a shame that it's out of print. Lefty Kreh is best known for fly fishing, but this book displays his talent for teaching photography, too. Not only does he give great advice for shooting outdoor photos, but the book is jam packed with info relating to practically every aspect of photography which previously befuddled me. I have several other "beginner" books, but this one really clarified many things for me regarding lens aperture, varying lens types, light metering, etc. There are many pages of "before and after" photos showing the effects of different lenses, filters, lighting and composition which are extremely helpful. Plenty of great info also on "people pictures," i.e. portraits (some candid, some not). Kreh speaks in a very "conversational" way which doesn't go over your head. Rather than explaining things in an extremely scientific way, he gives real examples that give you that "Aha!" feeling once you understand WHY.
Of course, if you are looking for outdoor photography from a digital perspective, you aren't going to find it here (copyright 1988). But, I am loving my "old school" Pentax ME and looking forward to getting the maximum out of it!

...Didn't Know Beans About Fly-Tying...

I've blundered along with fly fishing most of my life, but lacked the gumption to give fly tying a go. My wife, acting on either pure generosity, or a desire to see me spend more time in the basement out from under her feet, Christmas-gifted me with a first-rate tying vise and all the associated gee-gaws. The instruction book that came with the set (and many others I sought-out) were "cook books" for various fly patterns; they assumed the reader possessed an understanding of the basics. This is about as useful as giving a micro-wave cook receipes for Cordon Bleu dishes. I went looking for something more purely instructive. I've always had good luck with LL Bean products and their latest revised and updated Fly-Tying Handbook (Dick Talleur) did not disappoint. The excellent photos work hand-in-hand with the narration to bring the reader quickly to the point where the novice can venture into more complicated tasks without fear. ...Nice touch the way the author eases you into more complex tying by stages; one pattern involving a technique that allows you to tackle the next one up the ladder of complexity. Incidentally, the quality of the paper and the photography and printing is far better than you'd expect for a paperback. ...Good piece of work by LL Bean.

One of the best books written that can help someone get started backpacking and refresh a seasoned packer on skills and tricks that are helpful in the backcountry. Many tips and information cover the full range of backpacking topics, from buying gear to making it home. The info in the handbook can be used for more than packing, like impressing beautiful girls (Jes Mcaff) with your survival skills or Keeping comfortable in harsh enviroments.

User Friendly Workbook

Although I have been a Peachtree user for 15+ years, it was with Peachtree Complete (for DOS in a windows format). In the fall of 2005, I started making the switch to Peachtree for Windows, using Peachtree Premium 2006. While the basics of accounting in Peachtree were the same, the process used in the newer software was different and some things totally new. The Peachtree manual was of some help, but "Learn Peachtree Accounting" was REALLY helpful. This workbook is written in an easy-to-follow format. The author also gives helpful tips, along the way. This book is especially helpful for the first-time Peachtree user. She takes you through a well-organized, three-month process, step-by-step, making the transition from your current accounting system to the Peachtree software. Great for anyone in accounting. (Only drawback is that it covers versions through 2002; Peachtree is currently selling 2006. However, the majority of the information still applies to the newer releases of the software.)

In eleven chapters and eleven categories Bean answers a total of 157 questions he's received as a leather writer over several years. His writing is easy to read and from both his heart, his research, and his experiences. While sometimes very specific to the gay leatherworld, there are several questions and answers that should be helpful to anyone. A definite must have for newbie leathermen.

I had seen this book in a store and only had a brief time to skim through, but that was enough to convince me to buy the book! The content is excellent; if a little intimidating at first. Scratch a little deeper and you find a comprehensive reference document that gets down and dirty with its subject.
Have to admit I'm still dipping in and out of the book at the moment; but if you want to have a deeper understanding of fundamental concepts in lighting calculations this is your book.

What a great new author! This is an adorable story. It is just the right length to read to the class. I will be taking this one to school this year. I read is over the summer as bedtime story since I have children of different ages listening. Our whole family enjoyed this one. I highly recommend it.
