This wonderful little toy is my sons favorite! His love for Clifford began with the TV show, that I just happened upon one day and it really caught his attention. I then found a large stuffed Clifford for him. But this small toy he really loves. He sleeps with Clifford and takes him everywhere he goes. My son is 9 months and is into biting everything. So I do recommend if your child is at that same stage you may want to purchase more than one so you can change out between cleanings.

This delightful stuffed toy is my 2-yr-old grandson's favorite! As we read the Clifford books, his very own Clifford snuggles with us! This small toy rides in the car seat, sleeps next to him, and has reinforced his love of the book series as well. The books are a source of good "life lessons", they are colorfully illustrated, and the stuffed toy brings the one-dimensional character we all know and love close enough to snuggle!

I got this book in 1996 as a gift from some fellow baristas and it's possibly one of the finest examples of coffee addict humor you'll ever read!
Whether you're buying for a connoisseur of fine coffee, a slave to the grind or a flat out java junkie they won't be disappointed.

Hilarious!!!

For anyone who puts food by, this cookbook is valuable. Beans, etc. store easily on the pantry shelf. This book illustrates ideas for cooking with those beans to vary the diet.

Don't judge this book by the cover.

I saw this book out of the corner of my eye in the coffee table section of my local library. I'd just purchased several pounds of heirloom beans to make a chili recipe that turned out great. I'm cutting back on red meat so I was looking for a bean and grain cookbook to use up all those beans if nothing else. I checked out COOKING WITH BEANS,GRAINS, PULSES AND LEGUMES (CWBGP&L).

In addition to the lengthy title there are 53 more descriptive words of what you'll find inside on he cover of CWBGP&L. If that's not enough to sell you there are also 9 photos of various foodstuffs. This book was published in the UK. Maybe this is the way they do cookbook covers. In the US we generally thumb through books on subjects we're interested in or read reviews on Amazon.

Other than the cover which isn't very important in the total scheme of things, what's inside the book is outstanding. The photography is wonderful. It makes you want to try every recipe. There are 37 pages devoted to descriptions of all types of beans, grains, seeds, pasta, flour and noodles. You get everything from history to preventing flatulence! The recipes, like most cookbooks are divided into chapters for breakfast, appetizers, soups, salads, meat, bread, deserts, etc. CWBGP&L has 185 recipes. They cover a wide variety of ethnic dishes and cooking styles. You get everything from a very basic Jamaican Rice & Peas to more elaborate dishes like Buckwheat Noodles with Smoked Trout.

I'm not an expert cook. I found the recipes that I've tried so far to be doable for the average cook. If you don't have a large health food store nearby finding some of the beans, grains and other stuff could be a challenge. However, an internet search will find a vendor for all your recipe needs.

If you are looking for healthy, hearty, and fun recipes I recommend COOKING WITH BEANS,GRAINS, PULSES AND LEGUMES.

I read this book and then passed it on to other friends. Each of them, from children to an 85 year old, said that it was such easy reading and written just like someone was talking. It is good for any age. The illustrations were kind of "down home", too. I would recommend this to anyone.

Joe R is one of a kind. His writing is at once streetwise and refined. His language is stripped of all pretention and this book (a novel that reads like an epic poem) is a hard hit to your gut. Very cool.

This is a very good book.Gives a wealth of info on each species and while not giving exact locale info it does give you some good ideas on where to look.
Their are some species in my area that I know are endangered but are not listed in the book.I researched to find out why and found out it's because theirs no baseline statistics to measure a decline against. We need a baseline to measure a decline against before they disappear completely. The book is as complete as can be given the incomplete information he had to go on from the NJ Endangered Species program. The scarlet snake, coastal plains milk snake and the eastern spadefoot toad are three that are not included through no fault of the authors of course. All in all a great book and well researched out for the info he had to go from.Would have had to talked to local herpers to find out about the rest of these species.

This is the only book of its kind specific to New Jersey, and it's a good one. A nice, thorough description of each endangered/threatened species, along with habitat requirements and life history info. Beautiful photos too. Beautiful guide to rare wildlife and a window into the wilderness areas of NJ.

I found this book from a bibliographic reference while reading "XML for Data Architects" by the same author. The "E-Commerce" part of the title threw me a bit, but after reading through the book I was amazed. This book contains a tremendous amount of strategy, approach, technique, and supporting reference for those who are involved with design and development of international technology. Even more valuable to me were the numerous international, national and industry data standards resources. After having given it a solid read, I am impressed. Cheers !

I have never made an espresso in my life, but always wanted to learn. I recently got a very very nice krups espresso machine for a gift and realized that I had absolutely no idea what to do with it!

This book gives perfect detailed instructions on everything you need to know to make espresso. How to choose beans, the machine, grinders, how to actually grind, brew, froth milk, etc.

I could not have asked for a better guide to get started making espresso. I recommend this book to everyone!

Best Chapter Book my Kids have Read
Helpful Votes: 10 out of 11 total.
Review Date: 2007-01-09
This is the best chapter book my kids (six-year-old girls) have read, and they've read a lot. Before discovering the Harriet Bean series, they would sit down and read only one chapter of a book. After receiving "The Five Lost Aunts of Harriet Bean" and "Harriet Bean and the League of Cheats" as gifts, however, they couldn't put them down. They immediately read "Five Lost Aunts"--in one sitting--and read "The League of Cheats" the next day, also in one sitting.

Like my daughters, I love every book in the Harriet Bean series. ("The Five Lost Aunts of Harriet Bean" is first in the series, followed by "Harriet Bean and the League of Cheats" and then "The Cowgirl Aunt of Harriet Bean.") In my own list of favorite chapter books, this series is tied for # 1 (along with the "Sarah Plain and Tall" series). It reminds me a bit of the Junie B. Jones series because it is hilarious, but it is better written. It's also more engaging than Junie B. because it's a mystery, and kids are compelled to keep reading not only because of the humor but also because they are driven to find out how the mystery is solved.

I strongly disagree with the reviewer from the "School Library Journal," who says the Harriet Bean books are contrived. This review misses the point of the genre. The point is not to have a realistic plot but rather to engage children with humor, charming characters, and suspense.

I also appreciate the strong female protagonists in this series. My favorite scene is when Harriet learns about her aunt Veronica, who is a strong-woman in a circus. Veronica was originally told that, as a female, she couldn't enter a strong-man contest, but she enters in disguise and beats all the boys and men. This is one of the most hilarious, gratifying, and empowering scenes I've encountered in a children's book.

I can't recommend this series strongly enough. It will engage good readers (the writing is very well-crafted), and it will inspire reluctant readers to keep reading, just as the Harry Potter series does. I wish Alexander McCall Smith would write more books in this series!

Desperately Seeking Sisters
Helpful Votes: 21 out of 22 total.
Review Date: 2006-06-14
In this second book in the "Harriet Bean" series, McCall Smith brings us an interesting and fanciful story. Harriet discovers that her father has 5 sisters, but that he has lost touch with them. To increase the mystery, her father produces a picture of all of them, himself included, without any faces. The painter had been sent away before he was able to paint faces, for lack of additional funds.

Harriet is irresistibly drawn to find them. Her need to complete the picture of her family is virtually obsessive. Yet it is truly appropriate. For most people in the end, it turns out to be family that is the most important and the most long lasting of friends and companions. Perhaps this is the primary lesson of Smith's book.

In particular, this young to young adult book is specially focused on character development. While Smith always pays attention to character, here for children, he is especially careful. Each of the missing sisters has a distinct character, in fact character is often the method by which Harriet finds the ones that are missing. As an interesting twist, Smith makes two of Harriet's sisters, detectives who run a "Ladies Detective Agency" reminiscent of Smith's other series on that topic. Imagine the wondrous detective stories Smith will weave for us when he puts Harriet together with her Aunts the detectives.

The book is recommended for all readers from age 5 to 105. It is fun, it is interesting and it is well written.
