This is a wonderful first novel for the author. While it lacks some polish, it is an excellently laid out and complex story.
I admire the manner in which the author parallels the lives of the transplanted children in Ohio with their families in
Britain during the war. It is clear, very clear, that the author writes about this little known (in America) piece of World
War II history, based on a great deal of research and with a great deal of heart. I grew up in Ohio, near the very city
where the events the story is based upon took place. Never, during my schooling, did teachers use these local historical
events as a point of learning about our country, culture, history and the changes and adjustments brought on by war. At
times I worried that he might be romanticizing the 'adventure' of the children a bit, but he did not hide the occassional
misadventures and frightening experiences that happened as well. I would especially like to thank the author for sharing
a bibliography at the end. I highly recommend this to anyone whether they enjoy history or just a great story that allows
the reader to grow with the characters.

Our lives are becoming more stressful and faster every day. Everything we do, everywhere we go, everybody we meet - actions, sights, sounds, smells - all of this is a sensory overload. Everything has to have a deeper meaning. Everything has to be best. And fastest. And newest. And we need more and more of everything. In this eternal rush it is so difficult to forget what really matters and how little one really needs to be happy.
Janet Lee Barton's audio book, "A Place Called Home," takes us to Roswell, New Mexico. Many of us are aware of the UFO stories connected to Roswell. Well, the Roswell she writes about is a much older one. The story is happening in 1898, to be exact. Roswell then is a small, sleepy community with a bunch of good people living there. Good is a word Ms. Barton uses often to describe her characters. "He was a good man. She is a good woman..." Simple words, but very true - then as well as now.
Beth is taking care of Cassie and Lucas, children of her deceased fiancé, Harland. She cares deeply for them and hopes they will stay with her forever. But fate has other plans. Harland's brother, Jeb, is on his way to get the children. According to his deceased brother, Jeb is not one for settling down. Beth is heartbroken - how could she let the children go? To make matters worse, she is falling in love with Jeb. Will she lose them all? Will Jeb prove his brother wrong and stay?
While this is an utterly predictable story - good people who put their trust in Lord's hands and pray that His will be done should get what they are praying for, right? It is also an utterly charming story. It is refreshing to listen to a story about much gentler, slower times; times when people ordered their merchandise from a Sears & Roebuck catalog and then waited patiently for the delivery, times when frazzled nerves were soothed by a cup of tea, children had impeccable manners and people married for life. Oh, and times when neighbors helped each other with just about any chore.
"A Place Called Home" was a truly heart-warming story, soothing like a good cup of tea with friends. I would highly recommend it to all female Christian readers/listeners, particularly those who are very romantic. Non-Christians would probably enjoy it as well, if they do not let themselves be disturbed by frequent scenes of prayer and devotion.

This book established two unrefutable facts:
1) Freemasonry had only a small influence in the construction of the US Constitution
2) The Illuminati had only a small influence in freemasonry at the time the US Constitution was being constructed
The Questions this book does not answer:
1) Did the Illuminati have any influence on the construction of the US Constitution
2) Were agents of the Illumnati working in government at the time the US Constitution was constructed
Late 18th Century Freemasonry held a strong Christian bias and not that of Secularism. While all Founding Fathers were not traditional Christians, they all promoted the Christian ethic as an essential to freedom. Illuminism seems to have gained a presence in Freemasonry somewhere near the mid to late 19th century, though it may have been present earlier.
These facts help us answer the last two questions:
1) No, the Illuminati did not have a significant influence, if any, on the construction of the United States since A. it did not gain a significant influence until the mid to late 19th cent. and B. the Founding Fathers did not believe that the Constitution was compatible with any civilization that did not observe Judeo-Christian principles.
2) Maybe, it is possible that sympathizers worked in government at this time. One such sympathizer was Thomas Jefferson who did not have a deeper understanding of the doctrines and practices held to be essential to the goals of Weishaupt's Illuminati.

S. D. Gordon's writings are as pertinent today as they were a hundred years ago. He has captured the timeless step by step instructions from the scriptures on how to live a powerful life to accurately represent the Lord in the earth today. He reaches into the scriptures and brings to life the scenes that illustrate his simple but profound lessons. I highly recommend this book and his others for anyone interested in a deeper understanding of inner life in the Spirit.

As an emergency medicine resident, I am reading this text as part of the program. The review book is laid out in the same
way as the texts. The questions are all referenced in the Howell text with appropriate discussion. The questions are overwhelmingly
in the single best answer format. There is a high proportion of questions in the negative (all are true except). The questions
go over the major parts of the chapter. Anyone using this text for reading will benefit from the review offered by this
book.

I also read The Devil's Avenger, by Burton Wolfe (1974), and experienced extreme deja vu. Going back and comparing them, I
find many parts identical, often word for word. Read them both and judge for yourself.
Some have written that Anton LaVey ghost-wrote both books. That would explain the situation, and why Wolfe (or heirs?) took no action against the newer book.
I regard this book as a revised and updated edition of The Devil's Avenger.

Right after World War I, the Allies along with American President Woodrow Wilson decided a world forum or congress would be
a place to diffuse world conflicts. The formation of the League was a good idea, until the United States decided to not enter
and Brazil dropped out due to not being represented on the Council. The formation and initial history of the League showed
it could arrive at positive things such as relieving tension in a conflict. The downfall came when the dictators started
goobling up states and disregarding the protests of the member states. First, elements of the Japanese structure seized Manchuria
from China. Then Italy took over Ethiopia. Finally Germany remilitarized the Rhineland and took over Austria. The crowning
achievement was when a late League member invaded Finland. The League was all but dead at that point, and little more than
a debating society.
This a nice interesting history of the League of Nations. I am surprised there has not been a reprint of the 1973 copyright book. It is probably the definitive history of the League of Nations, the forerunner of the United Nations.

Good source of self-assessment tests

This book has many self-assessment tests which allow one to look at the stress in their life, and the affect it might be having,
from a variety of perspectives. From that standpoint alone, the book is worthwhile. It also provides a comprehensive profile
of the different approaches to stress in one volume. As such, it is a good starting point for anyone beginning to address
the stress in their life. However, the author seems to reach beyond his area of expertise when covering areas such as diet
and exercise in detail. Those sections of the book were not as strong as the rest; Nevertheless, the author should be commended
in his attempt to address them since diet and exercise clearly are important aspects of addressing stress. I wish the book
provided more information on how to combat stress and not just identify it. It focused on a one-size-fits-all approach of
goal identification (much in the manner of Stephen Covey's _7_Habits_of_Highly_Effective_People) sprinkled with random bits
of advice. I wasn't comfortable with that approach at all and was left feeling better educated about stress, but without
a strategy for reducing it.
