Suitable for a wide range of lower age groups. Delightful, full colour pictures, and plenty of them. Both my kids (2 and 5) request this book over and over again. Full of animals, relatives, and some nonsense words to keep them laughing.

My 4 yr. old daughter, 5 yr. old son and I love reading this book. They love to immitate the baby crying and are facinated with some of the "made-up" words. They love to be asked, "Is that what baby wants?" and get excited because they really know what the baby wants. This book made me feel like a kid again.

My 5 year old son and I love this book. He is just starting to read and at first "read" the Waaaaah parts while I read the rest. He has started to read more of the book and is using memory and his site reading words to read with me. He also identifies with the little boy as he is the brother to a 4 month old sister. The boy should be called a big brother instead of little though.

A Good Book to Understand Financial Crises
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2004-03-15
Contrary to conventional belief, the authors propose that roots of a financial crisis lie in microeconomic rather than macroeconomic factors. Their evidence is convincing.

This is a good book for anyone who wants to know why the past financial crises happened and how to cope with them from both the public and the private perspectives. The authors also present the "ten warning signs of a financial crisis" based on macroeconomic data that can be used as a guideline to predict a crisis in certain economy. But the problem is they cannot predict when it will happen.

The authors' objective to "offer some unique perspectives, case examples, and practical solutions, and an actionable, strategic blueprint that our clients can tailor to meet their specific needs" is well presented.

A must read for crisis management

If you have no other book on financial crisis management, you must have this one.

The authors succinctly and clearly explain why economies in crisis do not behave the way economies normally do. They then identify key weaknesses in the financial sectors of crisis economies, and explain why they occur.

The book then goes on to provide a thorough and clear exposition on how crisis economies can be turned around, and what needs to be done, both politically and financially.

At this point the book turns to consider bank restructuring (a very specialised subject) and recovery of NPL portfolios in crisis economies. It concludes with recommendations for strengthening the international financial system to limit early economic collapse and prevent international financial contagion.

I really like this book, both as a guide for students, and a "how to" for CEO's and the financial sector. It is brilliantly clear and practical.

If you want to protect yourself and your organisation from financial crisis, or understand what happens when the economy you're operating in suffers collapse, get this book.

A unique and intriguing book

If you are interested in financial crises in emerging markets, or have to manage a company during one, you will learn from this book.

Two features make the book unique in the financial-crisis literature. First is real-world experience. While the authors are up on their economic theory, the book's real contribution is the fruit of years of practice. From poring over the innards of banks' loan books to working out a national re-structuring plan, these guys have actually done it, and done it in multiple nations. Until now, the theoretical works of academia and the IMF/World Bank have had the field pretty much to themselves. This book is a refreshing break, and a vital complement.

Second is that the book speaks not just to policymakers, but to the private sector. There's plenty of advice out there for central bankers and finance ministers for crisis-management; there hasn't been anything for corporate executives and bankers. This book fills that void. If I were a CEO managing during a crisis, I'd want this book on my nighttable.

A must-read for managers and investors.

I had long heard of this book before I was able to find a copy. I was surprised, gratified, and pleased with the size and extent of this wonderful book. The history section is quite informative, the other parts are provocative and wonderful; the illustrations are some of the best enema pictures ever.

Beyond that, this is no 15 page tiny tract. It is a comprehensive and full-sized treatment (dare I say?) of the subject, written from extensive experience and research, and in a wonderfully witty style.

I first saw "The Enema as an Erotic Art and Its History" in the early 80s, long before I began writing about enema eroticism (see, e.g., my book "Intimate Invasions").

I saw it then -- probably in a review of it in a magazine -- and immediately bought it. It exceeded my expectations; interesting erotic text and, most important, mind-bogglingly arousing illustrations. It's served as the basis for some of my writing, and the countless hours I spent with the images have left them burned forever on my brain.

Truly a classic. If you want a book that is, in some sense, the grandaddy of all of the enema books, this might be the one. Highly recommended, particularly for the pictures.

This book only rivaled Monica Mclean's story Cinderella Bride which I recently read as well. Rorie Dean who has undergone the loss of her brother succeeds in overcoming her preconceived prejudices and fears to take a leap of faith to save her nephew Frankie and the man she loves Gabriel Hawk. Not an easy thing to do when the man is bent on destroying himself. This is truly a book not to put down!

Ms. Barton takes what could have been a standard Big-Studly-Man comes to the rescue of Innocent-God-Fearing-Maiden plot and breathes fantastic new life into it. I did not want to put this book down and it's earned a prime spot on my keeper shelf. Rorie, our (well padded) heroine, is smart, stubborn and determined to have her own way - even when she she doesn't quite understand all that's going on around her. Gabriel is equally intelligent and determined but he knows exactly what he's facing. He also knows it's not good.

When I first started this book I was worried it was going to fall right into a typical slot. But within 40 pages I was entranced. These two lit sparks off each other and balanced it with a tenderness that kept me wanting more. Brava, Ms Barton. This is one great book.

As a 12-year-old, I immersed myself in the fascinating and poignant world of Al. I really identified with her -- she is be-spectacled, precoscious, spent a lot of time alone, and came from a non-traditional family, but she was never "victimy." Rather, she seems to make the most of things, possessing a sort of a bittersweet pragmatism and independence that serves her well. I will never forget that Al read the Sunday New York Times cover-to-cover every weekend -- even the ads and the classifieds. I am 37-years-old and think of that almost each time I read the Times.

Two seventh-grade girls become friends when Al moves into the apartment building where the narrator (who is never named) lives. The narrator is initially skeptical of Al, who is slightly overweight and wears her hair in pigtails (to be a nonconformist, she says). But the two quickly bond, especially when the narrator introduces Al to her friend, building superintendent Mr. Richards.

Mr. Richards, a retired bartender, offers the girls shooters of Coke and shows them how he ice-skates on the kitchen floor with rags on his feet to get it so shiny. To Al, he's possibly the most nonconforming person she's ever met.

But, like anyone else, Mr. Richards has problems of his own...as the girls soon learn...

Luke McClendon, 35 and at his peak, is a quarter-breed cowboy and illigitimate son of Baxter McClendon and he runs the Montrose ranch for his step-mother, Kizzie and step-brothers, Tyler and Grant.
Tyler, about 30, we meet as the sheriff of Luma County. Neither brothers have any interest in running the Montrose.

Deanna Atchley is the girl next door. As a spoiled, indulged teenager she wanted Luke and did whatever it took to meet up with him. It was her testimony that put Luke in prison for the murder of her father. He didn't believe she couldn't remember.

All Luke wanted now was revenge on her for betraying him. It has been fifteen years since her father's murder and ten years since Luke got out of prison. All Luke could envision was Deanna living the good life somewhere. He was certain she had gotten rid of his baby.

Deanna has started having nightmares and flashbacks and now must face the past in order to get on with her life. She is also determined to clear Luke's name. Yet was the price he asked for his help too high. Could she tolerate his treatment of her?

Deanna wondered what her mother, Phyllis and her brother, Junior and his wife, Benita would say to her regaining her memory.
She was sure that one of them knew who killed her father. The man who horsewhipped Luke and threatened to kill him. He would not tolerate her having a child by Luke.

Plenty of charged emotions as hatred threatened to destroy Luke - and Deanna needing forgiveness - betrayal and mistrust - murder and vengence - wonderful characters - brutal disregard of emotions.
It has it all.

Definitely Recommended --M Maybe a keeper? you decide.

I thought this book was the best of Beverly Barton. I could not put this book down, I had to finish reading that day. Deanna was so in love with Luke, but her family stopped at nothing to keep them apart. His trial and release from prison for the murder of Deanna's father was unreal. Deanna came back into Luke's life to clear his name, but the only thing on his mind for her was revenge. I loved this book, the passion and sex, was great. But the plot and the ending of this book was unreal. I could not believe it. Keep writing those books BEVERLY!!!

BARTON CAPTURES THE GENIUS OF HOWARD HUGHES & SPRUCE GOOSE

Review Date: 1999-01-28
During the last 30 years I've had the rare opportunity to read every known autobiography ever published on Howard Hughes, along with incalculable magazine and newspaper articles. In fact, only recently, my "Letter-to-the-Editor", regarding the major overlook as Hughes as one of the Top 20 industrialist of the 20th Century...appeared in the 1998 Man-of-The-Year issue of Time magazine. I guess you may call me a Hughesonian? With this in mind, I must rate Charles Barton examination at the life of Howard Hughes in his 276-page book titled, "Howard Hughes and his Flying Book", as the finest ever published to date. While Barton does not touch on or go into great depth on Hughes' life in motion pictures, Las Vegas, the oil business or any of the plethora of activities the genius of Hughes took on, he does give you an amazing insight into Hughes and the building of the Spruce Goose. It takes a brave writer to delve into the life of Hughes. Few man, if any, have left such a legacy which include multi-billion dollar corporations. I myself have written and published more than 25,000 articles, yet to tackle and succeed with a story on Hughes would be a challenge only worthy of a dedicated and admirable writer like Barton. Not only is Barton a wordsmith but he has done extensive research on Hughes and his association with the Spruce Goose. You are literally taken into the mind and world of Howard Hughes and his associates. Unlike other Hughes biographies which paint just a bizarre human being, we see, true an eccentric man, but one who knew what he was doing and was always one step ahead of the game. While the construction of an enormous airplane like the Spruce Goose might be only of interest to engineers, the reader is brought to believe that the Spruce Goose had a life of it's own...an extension of Hughes. All bases are covered in "Howard Hughes and his Flying Boat" which includes one of the most extensive collection of Hughes photographs ever published along with a catchy book cover drawing of Hughes and his Spruce Goose. Rumour has it that actor Nicholas Cage has in the works to do an epic movie on the life of Howard Hughes. I recommend that Cage, if looking for an Oscar, read over this epic tale of the Hughes, the aviation genius.

The book is very well written, and very informative. It gives a very mature insight into the HK-1 project, as well as Howard Hughes himself.

I highly recommend this book to anybody wanting a detailed account of the events pertaining to Howard Hughes and His Flying Boat.

The gospel of John is not a simple book, therefore interpreters of the text have their work cut out for them. The authors of this text have done a fine job of fleshing out the meaning of the scriptures. For example, many times within John, Jesus is described as the Son of God, the Lamb of God, the Light of God, the Mesiah, etc., and Christ's own words include difficult to understand quotes such as "I am". The man/spirit duality is discussed at length and with different perspectives to illuminate and clarify this difficult situation.

The book uses three different methods of organization to the text. The bulk of the text includes quotes rom the Bible, followed by interpretive text. I found the majority of these sections to be very well written and logical, if a bit wordy at times. There are also boxes placed inbetween the above text that are marked with the tree logo used on this entire series of study books. These boxes of text tend to be more personal, asking the reader to consider their own thoughts, motives, practices and goals in life. These sections were the least valuable to me personally.

The third method of organization is the use of tables of information, often with supporting scripture cited. These sections compare and contrast many of the associated issues. Throughout the book, when scripture is cited, it is labeled with the version (such as New King James Version = NKJV) that is being quoted. The book also includes a few maps that help one track the travels of Jesus and his deciples during his ministry on up until his crucifixion and beyond. Very well written overall and an interesting, thought-provoking read.
