This work is a part of the series named "Artefacts" associated with London's Science Museum, whose editors "encourage
authors to use objects as evidence for their studies of the history of science and technology." The eleven chapters of this
volume were written by authors from universities and museums. The topics vary widely, from 15th-century Valois Burgundian
artillery, World War I U.S. women's uniforms, the display of arms in museums, artifacts of the German occupation of Britain's
Channel Islands in WWII, to the use and image of U.S. submarines in the Cold War. The essays get at what can be learned about
the respective military forces of the time and also what can be learned about the relationship between such forces and the
society of which they were a part.

Born in Ireland in 1856, Rose Barton studied art in London and Paris, exhibited widely, and was elected a full member of the
Royal Watercolour Society in 1911. She died in 1929 leaving behind an immense legacy of superbly accomplished art, including
scenes of a 'yesteryear' London. In "London: Memories Of Times Past", writer, editor, and current Chair of the British Guild
of Travel Writers, Mary Anne Evans provides an informed and informative text giving the reader an historical context for the
sixty-one paintings of Rose Barton, placing these images (along with those taken from period maps, postcards, newspapers,
and railway tickets), within the framework of life in London in the early twentieth century. Of special note are the section
on 'Sources, Notes, and Captions', and the extensive Bibliography. An elegant, enlightening, entertaining, nostalgic, illustrative
urban history, "London: Memories Of Times Past" is very highly recommended reading and a popular addition to personal, academic,
and community library collections.

This is a suitably vast book for a vast subject. It covers every aspect of the application of human genetics to medicine,
and the reviews are not only an ideal introduction to a genetic disease, but are heavily referenced as well. This makes it
ideal as a guide to the most recent literature on the subject. The introductory chapters are essential reading as well.

"Mountains, Memories & Mistletoe" is a compilation of two Christmas novellas. The Ozark Mountains is where the Forrester family makes their home, but to cousins Amanda and Casey family gatherings always seem to turn into a matchmaking affair and a lesson on how both girls should be finding a husband. If you take away the endless matchmaking, life with Granny and the Forrester family in the beautiful Ozark Mountains is ideal, especially at Christmas time.
In "Making Memories" (2006) by Janet Lee Barton, Amanda Forrester has moved from the Ozarks to Oklahoma City where she is making a living selling real estate. Her neighbor, Josh Randall, is a school teacher, and Josh agrees to celebrate Amanda's first closing sale with her by sharing a home cooked steak on the grill. Both find they enjoy each others company, especially during the holidays, when they work together to feed the less fortunate at Thanksgiving, shop for Christmas gifts, decorate, and couple together when the Sunday school class meets to make gingerbread houses. With some reluctance, Amanda agrees to have Josh join her in making the trip back home to join Granny and her family for Christmas. Amanda hopes that by bringing Josh, her family will let up on discussions of finding a mate, even though Amanda and Josh are only friends.
A sudden snowstorm, while driving home to the Ozarks, changes the plans for Josh and Amanda when they console a family whose car abruptly runs off the road. When a near disaster becomes only a minor mishap, Josh and Amanda soon realize they are more than just friends.
"Dreaming of a White Christmas" (2006) by Kathleen Miller, finds Casey Forrester feverishly working the late night hours of Thanksgiving Eve preparing the window displays at Callahan & Callahan Fine Clothiers, the most fashionable store on the entire West Coast. Casey's three window displays will be unveiled to all who watch local TV or cable news on Thanksgiving morning, and the reaction to her debut may foretell her future career. Unfortunately, Casey falls asleep in the display entitled "Dreaming of a White Christmas," and EMT Ben Callahan answers the call when a dead woman is reported to be in a downtown window display. Ben rescues Casey from the window display before the debut opening is ruined, and the two become great friends, especially after Casey rescues Ben from a surfing mishap. Both individuals hold some secrets, but going home to the Ozarks to visit Granny Forrester at Christmas might just solve everything.
"Mountains, Memories & Mistletoe" is a great book to read during the holiday season. It is filled with family values, traditions and memories, and it reiterates what we have all heard about there being no place like home for the holidays. This book will leave you feeling happy and full of joy. I recommend both novellas for all ages of readers from teens and beyond. If you enjoy wholesome Christian romance and the Christmas holiday, you are in for a Christmas treat!

I was recently blessed with the opportunity to read and review this book. I found it to be very readable and an extremely
thorough study of men's work and its impact on society. The book is a collection of contributions from different writers
divided into four parts. The first part is an introduction to mythopoetic men's work and its place in the contemporary men's
movement. The first chapter is written by Editor Edward Read Barton and speak to those experienced in men's work as well
as those who are not in its discussion of the various types of men's work and the similarities and differences. This first
portion of the book is a lengthy discussion of the meaning of masculinity and the various ways that men perceive themselves
and each other in their journeys towards meaning and integration. Mythopoetic men's work in particular uses myth, symbol
and ritual to delve into the male psyche. The second part of the book discusses this type of men's work in therpeutic settings
and is geared toward the counseling community. Still, an interesting ready for anyone interested in the male psyche. The
third part of the book is a fascinating study of the men's organization The Mankind Project and its weekend initiation called
The New Warrior Training Adventure. Collaborative research and studies follow men through these experiences and discuss the
impact on those men. This work has tremendous value for men and the women and children in their lives. The final section
of the books is a discussion of feminism and a search for common ground amongst gender movements. The primary theme is that
of similarity between the different paths towards meaning and integration. I am a New Warrior. I have experienced the weekend
adventure and I continue to be involved in ongoing work of integration. I have done more work towards becoming the man I can
and want to be within The Mankind Project than in over a dozens years of therapy and other recovery work. While this book
has enormous value for therapists and counselors working with men, I recommend this book as a valuable resource to any man
who is interested in looking towards mythopoetic men's work as a means towards self-exploration and integration.
