This is one of those "I couldn't put it down until I finished it" books although I took 2 and 1/2 days to read it because of other interruptions. The first since I got hooked on Tom Clancy and several of his books.

The first several chapters kept drawing me to read more. I liked the way Mr. Barton established the subject and the characters in such a way as to keep me wanting to read the next page and/or chapter to see what was going to happen next in the story and the characters.

My favorite characters are Jack Cahill, Julie Stinson, and Old Man Parker.

I now want to read more of Mr. Barton's books and I think I will start with "Camouflage".

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The text was accurate yet lively, the details fascinating. This book was a wonderful insight into the life of a couragous woman who braved great danger to help others. Clara Barton should be a role model to all. She braved Civil War battlefields to nurse the wounded and then fought for an American chapter of the Red Cross. I highly reccomend this book to all!

Since Amazon didn't post an editorial review, here's the description from the back of the book to help you decide if this book is for you: "Honour demanded that he marry her ... When William, Lord Barton, found Amanda Stratton stowed away in his cabin on the Cumberland Rover, he immediately assumed the worst. What could she be but another of those infernal fortune-hunters he'd been dodging for years? Except this one was more clever than most -- she had caught him. What he didn't know was that she was fleeing a far worse fate thanmarriage to a stranger. Her uncle had promised her to I'Ange Infame, a decadent French nobleman who had not given up his designs on her person. Nor did he understand Amanda's opposition to his proposal. She was far from the compliant and grateful bride he had expected ..."

If you have a collection of London guidebooks and histories, this will be a great addition to it. I first saw the book for sale at Greenwich and regretted that I didn't buy it there. Take it from me, you won't find it discounted anywhere.
If you've become interested in the underside of London from reading Neil Stephenson's "Baroque Cycle" you'll enjoy this as well as Ben Jonson's poem "On the Famous Voyage" (check it out).
The illustrations and maps are nice.

Long Overdue

Working in Drug Safety for the past five years, I have waited for a book specific to the field. Previous understanding and knowledge was reduced to searching the CFR, reading ICH regulations, memorizing company SOP's, attending training presentations, etc. The book brings all the scattered pieces of information and regulations into a cohesive organization that allows it to be used as a comprehensive read or as a reference for drug safety information.

If read from chapter to chapter, the reader can bridge missing information, clarify ambiguous areas, and further understand Drug Safety. If used as a reference, all the pertinent facets of drug safety are presented, and appropriately indexed by concepts, which facilitates finding certain information or resource.

I'm pleased that someone took the initiative to write a long overdue drug safety book. I have already personally recommended to various colleagues, and I recommend it for other current or future professionals who want to improve their working practices in the field.

A great book for anyone interested in U.S. mass communication law, covering topics such as First Amendment guarantees, libel and slander in mass communication, privacy, obscenity, freedom of the press, commercial speech and FCC regulation of mass media, explained through U.S. Supreme Court decisions (v.g., New York Times Co. v. Sullivan, Miller v. California, New York Times Co. v. United States). Specially interesting is the discussion about content restraint of motion pictures (chapter IV) and TV (chapter XI), the latter an issue back on newspapers after a recent Supreme Court decision (United States v. Playboy Entertainment Group, Inc.).
