This book is the first book specifically about Hopi & Pueblo Tile ever written. It is well researched and easy to read. I believe it would have been better with footnotes and specific acknowledgements but after talking to the authors, I found that the publisher limited the amount and type of material. I hope the authors continue their research and produce more information on this fascinating subject.

First introduced in "A Girl Called Al," this sequel picks up with 13-year-old Al's latest crisis -- her father, whom she hasn't seen in eight years -- suddenly pops into Al's life to tell her he's getting remarried. Worse yet, she'll have three new stepbrothers!

Her best friend, the book's narrator (who is never named) is always there to lend her support...or to make some mistakes with her.

Like the other "Al" books, this one manages to be funny and real throughout. Adolescent readers will enjoy the adventures of Al and her friend, because they're just regular girls they'd feel like they could be friends with, too...

A Refreshing Approach to Poetry

I met the Author in Chicaco when he wowed our group coming from the airport with an impromptu recitation of two selections from his book, one especially for the women, another for the men in the group. On the basis of that recitation, I bought "The Imagination in Manifestation", and I find it a delight to read, perhaps knowing that it is a reflection of the imagination of a most creative and energetic young man. There is a poem for everyone, whether you are young and newly in love, or old and remembering your first love, or anywhere in between and appreciative of the written musings of such a bright and personable young poet.

A short book, but loaded with quotes from our nation's founders showing that the Judicial branch of the government was intended to be the weakest of the three. All federal judges are subject to impeachment and being booted off the bench. This is not what you learned in school, you need to read it here.

A Warm Account of a Missionary to the Dakota Sioux in the 19th Century.
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2007-01-10
This is a delightful book, originally published in 1919 by Rev. Williamson's daughter. It is based on her recollections of her father's accounts of life with the Dakota Sioux. We may not know if every word can be accepted as the unvarnished truth, but she and her siblings lived through some of these events, as well as having heard their parents' retelling of the tales. She would seem to be a sincere narrator. Reverend John P. Williamson was the son of a missionary to the Dakota Sioux in Minnesota, the Rev. Dr. Thomas Williamson (also a physician). John grew up among the Dakota and spoke their language as a native speaker. He understood them about as well as a white man of that day could. He was a witness to many events of the Dakota War or Great Sioux Uprising of 1862 in Minnesota. He also accompanied the Dakota afterward, ministering to them in their captivity at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. He also accompanied them on their sojourn down the Mississippi and then up the Missouri, on a crowded steamboat. Life at the inhospitable Crow Creek Agency and the Santee Agency are covered. His life among the Yanktons is described. This book is well worth reading. As always, the scholars may debate the accuracy of some details, but as an account of one man's life as a missionary (described years later by his daughter) it is worth your time. More so by virtue of the nature of his life's experience and the era involved.
