Another thriller in the Gil Beech series. Hawkins has done it again, weaving a great mystery through proven prose. Better
than the muppet book, Barry is the best.

Wow, I'm surprised to see this book available out here, a must for any Bowie fan. It's a huge book, the size of an album
cover, great photos on every single page, most in color. Thorough writing by Barry Miles gives you the initial glimpses into
the artist, David Bowie, his personal life and musical evolution. Has lots of rare photos that go right up to the end of
the '70's. I own two copies; a stranger and I had a tug-of-war over one, in a used-book store. She gave in when she learned
I was the newer fan. I needed the copy to cut-up! I loved using this book as a reference and for designing my collages.
You'll love it too!

David Lean is the greatest filmmaker that ever lived. This book is a great chronicle of his life. A brilliantly detailed account
of both his personal and private lives. Many previously unpublished photographs. A stunning achievement by his last wife.
A loving devotion to the master. This book is rich with many details of the 'lost years' between Ryan's Daughter and A Passage
to India, and the attempts to make the story of Captain Bligh, and Conrad's Nostromo. (What films they would be!) The book
explores the many friendships Lean held with those that worked with him, from Robert Bolt to John Box to his closest and most
interesting pal, Eddie Fowlie. The book blends terrific photos as well as a very detailed text. A beautifully constructed
book made with highgrade materials. A true gift from Lady Lean. Highly recommended! A wonderful companion piece to Brownlow's
biography of the master. Buy this book now. Don't wait. Thank you.

The book opens in a coffee house where Death is sitting, reading newspapers & contemplating. He then sees an old composition
book for children to practice their writing. He decides to write in it & he does - using the AAaa page (subjects that start
with A) to think & talk about subjects, with, of course, death as the main thought. He weaves today, ancient history & interesting
facts all through the alphabet. In 50 years it is one of the 5 books I have re-read several times. I plan to get some for
my friends.

Make sure you are getting Edition 2 and not 1. The ads don't seem to be distinguishing them. Ed 2 is superior of course, and
was published in 2001, Ed 1 was published 1993 to 1996.
You also have to decide if you want more deep sky objects or more stars. The Millennium Star Atlas would be a better choice if you want to more closely match the star field you see to help identify the objects. Uranometria has far more objects but a good portion of those may be extraneous and may actually get in the way of what you are seeking. Millennium has plenty of DSOs actually and more stars to help identify the objects you are looking for.
Ed 2 includes two progressive finder atlases to help zero in on where you want to go, because it is easy to get lost when looking at just a 2-page spread.

Windy and Long Jim weren't looking for trouble, they just wanted to hand over a corpse to the local law. But the law in Goliath
didn't seem too interested, and when it turned out the dead man was a friend of Windy's nephew, Quincy, they decided to take
the matter into their own hands. Suddenly they found themselves in the middle of Mexican bandit, El Porcito's, plans for a
revolution.
From Windy and Long Jim's discovery of a corpse strapped to the back of a camel you know you're in for an entertaining read. Barry Cord writes a fast paced and tough story that I found impossible to put down, in fact finished it the same day I picked it up.
As the mystery surrounding Quincy and why he was in Goliath gets more and more complex, more characters are introduced and it begins to look like Windy and Long Jim will never find Quincy. Even the local law want them out of town.
Cord seems to be a master of letting the reader think he knows what's going on and then introducing someone else to further complicate matters. Here this is dramatically done with the arrival of Quincy's wife Linda whose attitude is superbly written, her comments and treatment of those around her having me laughing out loud.
Linda isn't the only strong woman in the book, there's Maria, but what is her role in the story? And what of Felipe, the boy thief? All of Cord's characters will play important roles in the outcome of the book.
Highly recommended.

Hardin is to theoretical and strategic labor relations as Elkouri is to contract administration. It is the place my staff
is instructed to start on any collective bargaining issue. Also as with Elkouri, it tries so hard to be balanced that neither
management nor union regotiators may be able to find the hard edges they might be looking for. Its utility in the public
sector depends on how similar the state or local bargaining law is to the National Labor Relations Act. If the bargaining
duty language is similar to the NLRA, the public sector practitioner will find Hardin useful.

Barry Gifford clearly knows and loves his noir. This book is comprised of columns Gifford wrote -- I forget the publication
they originally appeared in -- recounting the plots of noir cinema, both from the '50s and from more recent times, in a stripped-down
prose any hardboiled novelist would be proud of. These aren't reviews so much as praising bits of imitation -- Gifford seems
to be challenging himself to write the perfect synopses of the movies he recounts, with a language that truly captures the
feel of the genre. Minimalist meditations on crime films. You won't learn much about the movies Gifford writes about from
this book (other than the stories) but if you've seen them and love them, you'll enjoy reading his prose, and if you haven't,
you might get motivated to hunt them down. I forget the films he lists, exactly -- Nick Ray's excellent IN A LONELY PLACE
is in there, but that's not pure noir by a longshot. David Lynch fans might note that the book also includes a critical piece
on BLUE VELVET that puts the film down as "academic pornography" and sick stuff, and further lays down the putdown of calling
it "phlegm noir." This is particularly funny in that Lynch ended up adapting Gifford's subsequent WILD AT HEART, and that
the two collaborated together on LOST HIGHWAY... a film which I suspect contains buried references to Gifford's writing about
Lynch here -- when Robert Blake (as that demon-figure) and Robert Loggia (as the pornographer) are squaring off and one of
them, I forget which, says "No one makes ugly like we do..." Lynch and Gifford's alter-egos? Anyhow, it's a fun book...

Barry Farber has written a clear, concise book with new ideas that he helps you to execute. I found myself in many chapters
and was happy to see easy solutions to the problems I am experiencing. This book is refreshing and helpful and even though
I read a library copy, I am ordering my own so I can keep referring to it!
