Youth Pastors - Get It!

As a youth pastor for 11 years, I have been searching for abook to give to my volunteer youth leaders that would disciple
andtrain them for strategic youth ministry, and this is it! Barry St. Clair does a fantastic job of breaking down youth ministry
in such a way that a volunteer can fully understand his role as a youth leader while keeping his personal focus of Christ
as Lord. As a youth pastor, I'm constantly dealing with that critical issue of time - time for myself and helping youth leaders
balance the amount of time they give to serving in our student ministry while still taking care of important needs such as
family and personal time. This book helps volunteers address this critical issue of time with practical application included.
One other great piece to this book is that it teaches leaders how to lead. Barry St. Clair uses the biblical four-step approach
that Jesus used in leading His disciples: 1) Leader does the work and the potential leader is with him, 2) Leader does the
work and the potential leader assists, 3) The potential leader does the work and the leader assists, 4) The potential leader
does the work and the leader observes. I highly encourage any youth pastor to purchase this book, go through it, and then
use it to help train adult leaders to carry out the work of the ministry.

I gave this book to my nephew this past weekend. He loved helping Bob by using the hammer, saw, tape measure, wrench and
paint brush. He was having so much fun he just wouldn't put this book down! He kept saying, "I DO IT, I DO IT"!

I came across this guide thanks to a neighbor who we asked for advice planning our trip to San Francisco.
They showed us this book and said that they used it all the time when they lived there. We have been reading it and it has proven a big help in selecting our itinerary and our hotels, restaurants and coffee shops and walking and hiking paths. We feel like we are getting advice from someone who lives in the City. The edition we borrowed is 1999 and is 4th edition. The one on Amazon is 5th edition but still old. So, it will be a great guide and it has photos that capture the spirit of the City. We'll still buy a newer guide as well. We noticed that this compass guide was published under auspices of Frommer so we'll check out their latest 2008 guidebook as well. But, this Compass edition goes into our library.

I found Dr. Ancelet's collection and subsequent narrative very authentic and insightful into the Cajun experience. As an
Acadienne myself, I have collected many items of this nature and have found his work to be particularly appealing. There
are few ways to experience the genuineness and joie de vivre of the people of South Louisiana without being one of her own,
and Dr. Ancelet's presentation is one of them.

Exceptional history and current description of Cajun, Creole, and Zydeco music. Will be appreciated both by tourists new
to Louisiana culture as well as by serious connoiseurs of folk music and traditions and of French language. Barry Jean Ancelet
is both a distinguished professor at the University of Louisiana (Lafayette), as well as being a Cajun "Garrison Keillor"
(of Prairie Home Companion fame).

The history of environmental law in this country is one of media by media legislation where pollution is chased from air to
water to land rather than cleaned-up. In this book Celia Campbell-Mohn et.al. revolutionizes the way in which environmental
law is organized and analyzed. Instead of breaking the environment into sectors as resources (species, minerals) and sinks
for pollution (air, land, water, groundwater) she creates a new approach, the Resources To Recovery model, which divides the
human interfaces with nature into sectors (extraction, manufacture and disposal) and treats nature comprehensivly within each
interface. This book is totally unlike any other effort to understand and organize our legal relationship to the environment
and it deserves attention. If you have time to read but one book in the area of environmental law and policy this year, this
should be it......

Excellent book -- essential reading

There is nothing very new or interesting about the rife movement. But that is because of Barry Lynes' book. Before this book,
the movement was unknown, obscured, and basically out of reach of public knowledge. However, as a result of this much-needed
book, now anyone can read about the Royal Raymond Rife story -- a story which lead to a cure for cancer. In this way, this
book does what every good non-fiction book strives--and rarely achieves--that is, to make an obscure yet important topic,
open for anyone to discover. That is exactly what this book has done.
So, should you get the book? Well, would you like to stay in the dark about the most important cancer discovery of the past 100 years, or would you like to render it completely discovered and explored? Your choice. But for me, I chose to open the door, enter the room, and read about The Cancer Crue That Worked. And that decision may literally save my life one day, should I encounter cancer in my own body or that of a loved one.
In short, this book is essential reading for any human being who has dealt with or may ever deal with cancer. Since everyone could fit this description, I really believe everyone should read this book. Why should you face one of nature's deadliest attackers (cancer) without full knowledge of your treatment options? The rife treatment option is among the most likely to succeed. Yet it is the least known. That is why this book is so important.

In praise of alternative piping

Barry Shears has compiled a marvelous book of pipe tunes that are basically unknown and rarely heard today. They come to
us from a time before the advent of competition pipe bands, when the emphasis of the music was placed on rhythm, and people
gathering for an evenings entertainment would dance to the powerful tones of the pipes.
Some of the familar tunes in the book exhibit alternative settings which make for an interesting contrast to the standardized offerings we're used to hearing today.
Mr. Shears has also compiled two additional books of tunes equally as engrossing as the first. The "Gathering of the Clans Collection" vol. 1 & 2 is a must for those pipers interested in adding new life to their usual humdrum repertoires. To compliment the collection he has produced a CD titled "A Cape Breton Piper" which incorporates numerous tunes from all three books.
In addition, each book contains numerous photos and historical bacgrounds on various old time pipers and their music. Makes for fascinating reading. I highly recommend the entire collection.

Bar none the best war/soldier fiction written. I have all original books from #1 to "Halls of Montezuma". Too bad we lost
Barry. I could not put a single one of his books 'Casca' down 'til finished reading them. SO cool. The last ones are written
by other authors but they are pretty good. The ones written by Barry stand out above the best. Truely a collectors item.

Like John Salmon "RIP" Ford and Sam Houston, Buck Barry was one of the great men who "made" Texas. Ranger, farmer and sheriff, he fought Indians and outlaws before, while and after the American Civil War. He was a lieutenant colonel in the Mexican War and he led the "Texas Frontier" Regiment on the border of the Llano Estacado during the Civil War. Never his men met a Yankee unit, but they had to deal with Comanche ad Kiowas raids on the Texas Northern counties. Thanks to the editor James K. Greer, Buck Barry's private papers and reminiscences are a fascinating epic never dull to read and a welcome and useful contribution to the history of Texas and of the Confederate States.
