historical novel

Normally I read mostly history, not fiction. This book however caught my eye for a few of reasons. Firstly, as I have already mentioned, I like history. I also have a great interest in the Naval Academy and have always been interested in Key West.

While I don't usually read fiction, I have to say this one was exceptional. It has helped open my eyes to the fact that you can learn by reading fictional accounts.

CAPTAIN KIRK

Review Date: 2006-04-26
This book is a wonderful, laughable, brilliantly written tome by a man I have known for over 25 years as an emergency room physician. In between my daughter, the horsewoman (see broken bones), my Dad (see 99 years old alert and cranky) and me (see totally, permanently disabled back/knee), I have seen cures, laughter and a great listener in M. Barry Kirk. His personality (yes, he's called Capt. Kirk in the ER), comes forth in this book - and it's a wonderful read...he is brilliant in so many areas. Those who know him aren't surprised by the brilliance of his writing, but for those who don't - grab this book and curl up to be entertained.

A must for anyone in the military

When I was in the military, they stressed that to understand the craft of war; one should read the classics on war. However, no one told me that it would be fun. I stayed away from Caesar because I thought it would be stuffy. Well I was wrong. This book is a geography lesson and a history lesson. It is even a "how to". Nevertheless, it turns out that being a first person made it come alive. However, he had an ego and a half. The Campaign took place between 58 and 50 BC and the names for the tribes of Gaul are similar to the countries today. Now close your eyes and now open "ItDoesn't Take a Hero" by General H. Norman Schwarzkopf. Where does one stop and the other begin?

Barry Mandel's, Bear Gives You Love resonates with passion, love and a true commitment to God. Each poem has a unique flair and ability for stating the feelings that stir deep within him. His obvious love for his wife and his God is captured in almost every poem in this book. Barry's birth into authorship has been a long time in coming. This is a must read and addtion to the library of all who love poetry.

What a great read! Inspirational! Afterward it seemed I knew the Author, Barry Hanson II. His writing style draws you into the story and you feel like you are sitting beside him and his family at each turn. Little bits of wisdom are sprinkled throughout in a tasteful and contemplative manner that challenged me to think. The concluding epilogue was masterful, of which you must read for yourself. I give it five stars.

I have always loved the story "beauty and the beast" and have started to read different adaptations of it. My favorite ones are "the rose daughter" and "Beauty" by Robin McKinly. I first found this book in the elementary library of my school and immediately fell in love with it. I must have checked it out ten times. Now I am in sixth grade, and I decided since I love it so much I would like to buy it. I first looked here, since amazon has everything, but woe to me! It is out of print. Now I am scouring every used bookstore I come across for Nancy willards wonderful book. For other lovers of this tale, don't give up! Oh please, don't bail! This book is someplace to be found, and if you do you will be crowned! ;-)

IF YOU WANT YOUR COMPANY TO BECOME SUCCESSFUL READ THIS!!!

Review Date: 2001-05-16
WOW! what can I say? Becoming the best is an amazing book. It is a story about a company that receives its end year financial report. There has been absolutley no profit made. The managers all get together in a meeting. They try to question what has gone wrong. Yet no one has the answer, they begin to blame each other. The Director, Neil is just one excellent charactor-the kind of boss we would all love to become-full of passion, determination and has an excellent working relationship with all of the employees. One subject pops up, one of there biggest customers, BNT has received so many errors on invoices etc. by the company. BNT make up two thirds of the company's profit. BNT then decide to withdraw their custom. This causes havoc for everyone. There are rumours about the comapny shutting down and people losing their jobs. Neil has a dream "to become the best better than everyone, if everyone was the best at their job than this would be one damn company" he says. As the story unfolds, Neil and his team begin to find answers. They never knew the problems existed. An amazing and refreshing book. If you are a dirctor, manager or employee you must read it. What a story! You will regard your manager's problems as your own. It gives you drive, passion and motivation. Brilliant!!! Well done Barry Popplewell

The Bee Gees best friend David English has a talent for writing children-style books (i.e. The Bunburys). This novella was his start and it's a true, humorous tale of the Bee Gees from thier start to around 1984. It's more an adult book than a child's and is tons of fun. Illustrator Alex Brychta does a fantastic job of humorously portraying all the characters in the Bee Gees life. This makes a great gift for a true Bee Gees fan.

This book is small but mighty... I know that who ever reads it will get something out of it, if not for yourself for someone that you know. I loved it.
