Reading this book was one of the most eye-opening experiences I have ever had. It helped me see why the world is the way it
is, in a way I never thought of before. I was also amazed at how many of the things the author spoke about in the closing
chapters (the book was written over 10 years ago) that are actually happening - especially the things he talked about concerning
the internet before the internet even existed. It was as though he was looking into the future and writing it down. I would
recommend this book to anyone looking for more insight into the reasons their life and the world are the way they are, and
to anyone who would like to live in a more compassionate, just world. Reading this book renewed my belief in what the world
could be if we would all work together towards a common goal. My only critizism of the book would be its title. I think it
should have been called something like: Towards A World That Works for Everyone! - because that's what it's really all about.

The beautiful color illustrations definitely capture the attention of the reader. This is another excellent Eyewitness book
in spanish. This book brings the subject of frogs, newts, and salamanders to its readers. The pictures of the various poison
dart frogs was especially informative.

If you love the "Angela Anaconda" TV series, then this is the book for you. I used to read the Digimon books - but this one's
much funnier. I laughed so hard I broke all my furniture. Well, not really. But you get the idea. So what are you waiting
for? BUY THIS BOOK!

If you are curious as to what is the "real" buzz behind post-modern thought and how it affects the Christian Church, Barry
Harvey has written an excellent introduction. From a post-liberal/radical orthodoxy engagement with elements of classic Christian
thought, Harvey touches on the classic sacred vs. secular argument by showing the Church of Jesus Christ has a dramatically
different stance on social behavior and the distinct mission to the world than what we see in 21st century evangelicism.
This is an easier read than tackling James. K. Smith or John Milbank, but still gives a full understanding of the necessity of the Christian Church to re-discover the radical nature of the Kingdom of God.

This sequel to The Waiter is interesting in how it shows the fall of the hospitality industry based on the terrorist acts
of 9/11. What propels the story however, is a self potrait so brutal, that the reader must brace himself for the possibility
of looking into a mirror. The dream sequence about the hero athelete is stunning.

We just received this the other day. At first glance it appears to be *slightly* more condensed than the previous full edition
of the "Handbook", which, in my opinion is a good thing. Still very dense and an absolute must-have if you want or need to
know anything about "mainstream" architectural practice at a fairly high level.
There is so much good information contained in this tome, I'm surprised the AIA hasn't created a certification program based on it, much like CSI has done with the PRM. It would seem to me such a program would have the potential to help fill a gaping hole in architectural education.
Of particular note regarding this edition: two CD-ROMs are included. The first includes sample 2007 AIA documents -- no surprises here. The second includes the entire text of the Handbook, BUT, in a locked-down proprietary format. You install an application and must activate it online or over the phone before you can use it. You can only install it on one machine at a time. There is no de-activation function; you must uninstall and then call customer support to get a new activation number if you need to change the machine on which it's installed. The electronic version allows searching, but does NOT allow printing or exporting. While the sample AIA documents are PDFs and thus cross-platform, the Handbook reader application is Windows only -- an unfortunate choice. While I understand the publisher's desire to protect their IP, a PDF file would have been so much more user-friendly.
I'll try to remember to post more when I've had a chance to wade through the new edition in its entirety. In the mean time, I thought I'd share what I knew.

Not just a house, design a whole neighborhood

Most of us like architectural books because we think, or possibly just dream of building our own ULTIMATE house. Here, however,
is a book not on building a house, but on building an entire neighborhood.
It starts with a bit of history, the pattern books written in roman times. It brings them up to date with a survey of several American neighborhoods dating from turn of the century times. And finally it goes on to show what the authors have done as they designed blocks, sub-divisions and the like. It is intended to show what can be done to replace the common cookie cutter houses common in recent developments. It is a fascinating book that leads to thinking.
