Great book that teaches you to see past the end of fables. The illustrations are a riot! Especially when the Tortoises hire gophers to help them win the next race. I can see how teachers could use this inventive book to inspire children to create and reshape their own fables. Moral: Buy it!

Acknowledges that there is no such thing as a pat ending

Written by Barry Lane and enhanced with the artwork of Miles Bodimeade, The Tortoise And The Hare Continued... is a charming and very highly recommended children's color picturebook that extrapolates from Aesop's famous "slow and steady wins the race" parable. As we all know, the tortoise challenged the hare to a race, and the tortoise won because the hare was lazy... but what happened the next day? And the day after that? Continuing the story of tortoise and hare exploits, and introducing new morals along the way, The Tortoise And The Hare Continued... is a delightful story that's just a little closer to the real world than most, since it acknowledges that there is no such thing as a pat ending. The final moral: "Made up stories can improve real lives."

Reading This Book Will Make You Smarter Than Your Doctor!

Review Date: 2008-11-17
One of the world's most outspoken proponents of a high-fat, low-carbohydrate diet in modern-day society is UK-based researcher Dr. Barry Groves. This man is a walking, talking encyclopedia of all the information you could ever want to know about livin' la vida low-carb and imparts that knowledge on all of us with this new book-a play on words with the popular slogan used at Halloween in the United States, but an apt title for what is happening with healthcare in the 21st century.

Railing against the "healthy" low-fat diet that has been recommended for so long with no evidence to back it up, Groves runs through a long laundry list of various health myths where he sets the record straight. Medical school students and long-term doctors would probably learn more about diet and its relationship to health just from reading this book than in all the years they spent in medical school and in practice combined!

Want an inexpensive education in health-READ THIS BOOK!

This is a must read

This is a great book. It should be mandatory reading for all doctors. Every position is supported by research evidence. There is so much information presented, it was a slow read for me. I wanted to be certain I understood every word, so I often had to re-read sections. It could be a dull subject but it was written and formatted in a way that made it a pleasure to read. You will never again be able to listen to someone speak about his 'healthy diet' without wanting to re-educate him. I hope this book is the beginning of a wave of enlightened thinking when it comes to personal health and responsibility.

I was gripped by the passion of this story. It was written so well and took you through the very sad and interesting plight of this Italian family. It would make a great movie!

The true-life memoir of an Italian family's struggle

Frank Barry's A Trio Of Lies is the true-life memoir of an Italian family's struggle to adapt and survive in America. Deftly and candidly written with compelling emotion A Trio Of Lies spans most of the twentieth century and concludes with an eye toward the future. A Trio Of Lies is a highly recommended and intimately personal saga of human striving, weaknesses, and endurance that although specific to the D'Alessandro family, is universal in its relevance for all American families living in today's uncertain economic, social, and political climate.

The best critique of the correspondence theory of truth, and "onto-logic" that I have found. Cuts through the murk of Heidegger, Derrida, et.al. Wonderful.

This particular book in the series has some excellent lessons for Boys of today. There are some references to the middle ages. The boys are studying the middles ages through literature. This exposure to King Arthur & the Knights of old leads the boys to desire to exhibit the characteristics of the Knights of old, to LIVE PURE, RIGHT THE WRONG, etc. In our society where middleclass children have anything that they want, this story teaches the lessons of being generous to those that are not so fortunate. An Excellent story for Boys & Girls

"The Verdict" was such a pleasure to read. It was smoothly written, not overbearing with "law" talk, and kept my attention completely. Only a lawyer can write a book like this, and Barry Reed proves that. The characters' personal life do not overpower the story, so as not to take away from the law case, but just enough information is given about them to understand their law abiding/not law abiding ways, and the transformation of Galvin just makes you cheer for the underdog. I was apprehensive about reading a novel about law, but the courtroom chapters were absolutely invigorating, and the dialogue was natural and unpretentious. I thoroughly recommend.

Outstanding Quick Read

The Verdict was one of the most believable books I have read. I knew immediately that the author had to be knowledgeable in both fields of law and medicine. The plot was believable, so much so that I had to remember that it was fiction. The story took hold of me from the start and I found the book hard to put down. The main character, Galvin began as someone I had no respect for but as the story progressed, I actually began to like him for his undying pursuit of the truth and justice. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in a real courtroom drama. I'll look forward to reading other books by Barry Reed.

Finally, some solid ground in this subject! This book pulls together a wide range of work done in this area in the past, and establishes a strong conceptual foundation (both of which are essential if this field is to become better established). Overall the difficult balance between historical synthesis, theoretical foundations, mathematical detail, and discussion on future directions is achieved very very well (nice color snaps too!). The definitive work in the field - highly recommended.

an excellent publication - well done. The historical section is particularly interesting. Colour photos of images are clear and well presented. Of great interest to me are the proposals for the next generation of volumetric display. The text covers a considerable range of subject matter - this will take some perusal!

Tall tales by wild women

Take a humorous and fantastical canoe trip through the wilderness with a zany bunch of women who imagine they're the Voyageurettes, the distaff (and historically overlooked) side of the famous French Voyageurs. Each new tongue-in-cheek tall tale only adds to the self-proclaimed myth of these irrepressible women. Their motto: "We work hard. We paddle hard. We shop hard. And we don't eat dog." They lie hard too. Be careful, you don't want to sit around the campfire too long with these women or else you'll be hooked.

If you are a beginner or you want to improve your technics, this is the right book for you. I surely suggest it! The photos and the colors you find into it are an excellent medium for your learning. The paper is excellent and so this book proves good also for "outdoor use". Only one alert: if you already have books from these four authors, you may find in this book the same pages.
