A New Classic on Men's SexualityReview Date: 2008-10-01
I used to give most of my male patients a recommendation to Bernie Zilbergeld's book, Male Sexuality, which was wise and very funny. But McCarthy and Metz's Men's Sexual Health is my new must-read favorite for straight men. And if you're struggling with sexual compulsions, you really need to read this book.
Male Sexual Health is actually a kind of all-in-one male handbook for how to understand and enhance healthy sexuality by challenging performance-based sex. This book is great for adults and older adults, but I get even more excited when I think about giving it to young men who don't have any sexual problems, yet...
The discussions and exercises on understanding and naming your feelings rather than sexualizing them and on simultaneously appreciating, understanding, and taming your drive are outstanding.
Men's Sexual Health is organized in such a way as to be a wonderfully helpful reference book, with discrete chapters reviewing the authors' view of healthy, Good- Enough Sexuality, normal sexual development, differences between male and female sexuality, aging, dealing with sexual and health problems, and resources for finding professional help. It has an excellent index.
There is a lot of information here. Keep this book around. I'd be surprised if you've got a question that it doesn't cover ("Should I try Viagra?" "Am I sexually addicted?" "Am I normal?") Questions are answered, issues are tackled, research is reviewed, statistics, and helpful exercises, diagrams, charts, and graphs abound, and the authors' model of "good enough sex"--when relevant-- is applied to each problem.
Warning: The language is indisputably heterosexual.
Read it. It will help you and your partner. Men's Sexual Health is a self-help classic.

A concept to consider...Review Date: 2008-08-13
The book was very understanding and reaffirming-not a scientific treatise. It has opened my eyes to many issues-I'm sharing a copy with my 23 year old son.

Merely Perfect!Review Date: 2003-04-27
I've always enjoyed Barry Morse as an actor since before his days on The Fugitive, and it is a treasure to have this book where he shares these moments of theatrical excitement.
It's a perfect mix of material, and a merely perfect book!

gotta go!Review Date: 2001-05-25
In rhyming poetry, we meet Calvin Curbhopper, a young African-American bicycle messenger, as he moves around a big city making deliveries. He's constantly on the move. It's an exciting look at the bicycle messenger's life!
In our glimpse of Calvin's apartment, I was pleasantly surprised to see that his mattress is on the floor, and his place looks sparsely furnished and more than a little sloppy. He's got a bookshelf full of books, an alarm clock, some music, and not a lot more.
Calvin works hard and enjoys himself, yet he doesn't have a lot of stuff! So few children's books even present a glimpse inside the homes of single adults. It's a minor point, but it's nice to get a look into Calvin's pad, especially because it isn't the 3 bedroom family suburban spread I'm accustomed to seeing in picture books.
The lines in _Messenger, Messenger_ are poetic, and move along with a nice rhythm. It's easy to feel the rhythm of the cyclist as he moves through traffic.
My two year old son loves this book. He likes the rhythm of the story, and now I think, (gasp) that he might want to be a bike messenger when he grows up. So much for engineering and medicine, I guess.
There aren't many picture books which portray the life and lifestyle of the bicycle messenger. My son and I both like this one.
You should take a look at _Messenger, Messenger_.

A Fine Book for a Great Architect Review Date: 2006-08-19
This volume is produced by the Museum of Modern Art and it is one of the finest art books that I have ever seen. It seems as though no expense was spared in producing this volume. There are images of Mies' early work that you will never see in any other volume. It is such a beautifully produced book that it is better to spend the money and purchase the hardback edition. Highly recommended.

Brilliant Medical ThrillerReview Date: 2008-07-03
This is a literate and thoughtfully crafted novel, a real page turner, but also one that leaves you wanting more when you finish, hungry for his next book. Burnett weaves his story around philosophic and moral issues that challenge the reader to consider points of view not frequently encountered, but with a light and gentile touch.
Seldom does one encounter such an entertaining novel, artfully combining mystery, humor, insight and philosophy.
Highly recommended!
