My husband and I use Melaleuca products. I saw a copy of my friend's Wellness Guide...so we ordered it. Now 2 out of 2 people that have seen our copy...have ordered it. The book has many what I call recipes it in that explain how to mix Melaleuca products to create additional products for specific tasks. It has sections on home, body, pets and gardening. It's nice to know that we don't have to buy a separate product for every need that we have...all we have to do is refer to our Wellness Guide to find alternate uses for the Melaleuca products we've already purchased.

A New Classic on Men's Sexuality

Men's Sexual Health: Fitness for Satisfying Sex by Barry McCarthy and Michael Metz (Routledge, 2008)

I used to give most of my male patients a recommendation to Bernie Zilbergeld's book, Male Sexuality, which was wise and very funny. But McCarthy and Metz's Men's Sexual Health is my new must-read favorite for straight men. And if you're struggling with sexual compulsions, you really need to read this book.

Male Sexual Health is actually a kind of all-in-one male handbook for how to understand and enhance healthy sexuality by challenging performance-based sex. This book is great for adults and older adults, but I get even more excited when I think about giving it to young men who don't have any sexual problems, yet...

The discussions and exercises on understanding and naming your feelings rather than sexualizing them and on simultaneously appreciating, understanding, and taming your drive are outstanding.

Men's Sexual Health is organized in such a way as to be a wonderfully helpful reference book, with discrete chapters reviewing the authors' view of healthy, Good- Enough Sexuality, normal sexual development, differences between male and female sexuality, aging, dealing with sexual and health problems, and resources for finding professional help. It has an excellent index.

There is a lot of information here. Keep this book around. I'd be surprised if you've got a question that it doesn't cover ("Should I try Viagra?" "Am I sexually addicted?" "Am I normal?") Questions are answered, issues are tackled, research is reviewed, statistics, and helpful exercises, diagrams, charts, and graphs abound, and the authors' model of "good enough sex"--when relevant-- is applied to each problem.

Warning: The language is indisputably heterosexual.

Read it. It will help you and your partner. Men's Sexual Health is a self-help classic.

I've never really considered the concept of men's sexual health until my age created issues of lowered performance and a diminished libido. I obsessed about it and finally discussed these issues with my golf partner who is also a doctor He referred me to this book and I am so glad. It was as if a weight was lifted.
The book was very understanding and reaffirming-not a scientific treatise. It has opened my eyes to many issues-I'm sharing a copy with my 23 year old son.

After seeing Barry in his one-man play 'Merely Players' not long ago, I was excited to learn that the text of his performance would be available in a book. Interestingly, this volume also includes the scripts from his TV series 'Presenting Barry Morse' which were a great treat to discover. The stories and performance pieces cover material from pre-Shakespearian times to the present, some very funny and others quite moving - and include material by Shakespeare, Dickens, Shaw, Anton Chekhov, and many others. The book includes a lot of photos from Barry's performances and closes with a number of biographical essays on the notables who play roles in the scripts. An interesting read and highly recommended for both fans of Barry Morse and people interested in theatrical history.

Merely Perfect!

This is a book for everyone to read - it is endlessly interesting. You don't need to have an interest in theatrical history, either, because the stories in this book play like little mini-dramas or comedies, and I think they will appeal to almost every reader. Some are very sad and touching, and others are laugh-out-loud funny!
I've always enjoyed Barry Morse as an actor since before his days on The Fugitive, and it is a treasure to have this book where he shares these moments of theatrical excitement.
It's a perfect mix of material, and a merely perfect book!

I've read all of Robert Burleigh's many fine children's books, and this could be my favorite. Like the bike ridden by messenger man, the text is spare and poetic. Children will love the energy and warmth of the story. They will feel what it's like to be "messenger man," confident in his worth and the importance of his work. The art is perfect, creating and capturing the confidence of Calvin Curbhopper from early morning through late evening.

Children will ask you to read this book again and again -- and you'll love doing so.

gotta go!

Robert Burleigh's _Messenger, Messenger_ is an exciting portrait of a bicycle messenger in a big city.

In rhyming poetry, we meet Calvin Curbhopper, a young African-American bicycle messenger, as he moves around a big city making deliveries. He's constantly on the move. It's an exciting look at the bicycle messenger's life!

In our glimpse of Calvin's apartment, I was pleasantly surprised to see that his mattress is on the floor, and his place looks sparsely furnished and more than a little sloppy. He's got a bookshelf full of books, an alarm clock, some music, and not a lot more.

Calvin works hard and enjoys himself, yet he doesn't have a lot of stuff! So few children's books even present a glimpse inside the homes of single adults. It's a minor point, but it's nice to get a look into Calvin's pad, especially because it isn't the 3 bedroom family suburban spread I'm accustomed to seeing in picture books.

The lines in _Messenger, Messenger_ are poetic, and move along with a nice rhythm. It's easy to feel the rhythm of the cyclist as he moves through traffic.

My two year old son loves this book. He likes the rhythm of the story, and now I think, (gasp) that he might want to be a bike messenger when he grows up. So much for engineering and medicine, I guess.

There aren't many picture books which portray the life and lifestyle of the bicycle messenger. My son and I both like this one.

You should take a look at _Messenger, Messenger_.

A Fine Book for a Great Architect

Mies emmigrated to the United States in 1938. He was fifty two years old and had been an architect for over thirty years. Who could have known that his best and most productive years were still ahead of him. "Mies in Berlin" is a look back at the first three decades of his career. It is fascinating to see Mies' work in the years before the Great War. He was a conventional architect working in a very conservative style. Starting in 1920, Mies' surprising creativity and original vision burst forth. Along Walter Gropius and Le Corbusier, he was one of the father's of modernism and what became known as the "International Style".

This volume is produced by the Museum of Modern Art and it is one of the finest art books that I have ever seen. It seems as though no expense was spared in producing this volume. There are images of Mies' early work that you will never see in any other volume. It is such a beautifully produced book that it is better to spend the money and purchase the hardback edition. Highly recommended.

This book is the single most comprehensive volume on the history of Mill Valley, California, from its early settlement by the Coast Miwoks and white settlers to the great fire of 1929. It is an especially pertinent book this year, the 100th anniversary of the incorporation of the town of Mill Valley, and the book includes a chapter that explains the incorporation with interesting detail and anecdotes.

What a great read. This medical thriller, set in beautiful Boulder Colorado, is engaging, fun, exciting, humorous and smart. Dr. Josh is an innocent man swept up in the fallout of a murder of a child. Always being one to give way too much benefit of the doubt to anyone, Dr Josh finds himself getting sucked in deeper and deeper, eventually fighting for his life and that of his family. This book was a wonderful surprise, I recommend it heartily.

Brilliant Medical Thriller

Review Date: 2008-07-03
The Mortalist is a first rate medical thriller, part part murder mystery, part science fiction, part philosophically insightful novel. More than just a fascinating "beach read", the novel is packed with insight, medical tidbits providing an interesting and candid insight into the real world of a practicing physician, coupled with extremely entertaining use of language. But more, Barry Burnett has an off-beat sense of humor, unexpected in a thriller, but delightful.

This is a literate and thoughtfully crafted novel, a real page turner, but also one that leaves you wanting more when you finish, hungry for his next book. Burnett weaves his story around philosophic and moral issues that challenge the reader to consider points of view not frequently encountered, but with a light and gentile touch.

Seldom does one encounter such an entertaining novel, artfully combining mystery, humor, insight and philosophy.

Highly recommended!

Revealing, sensitive study of a disturbed, charismatic man
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 1998-10-20
Barry Rothman was indeed an enigma to those who thought they knew him. Radiating charisma, creating his own world, burning like a "candle in the wind", adults and children alike responded to the spark within him. David B. Rothman took the time to examine the twists and turns of the brief life, a feat that only a determined, heartbroken child could accomplish. Mr. Death stands not only as a biography, but as a work of art in itself. Only those who knew Barry can realize the strength it took to examine his life with a critical, yet caring eye. David has accomplished this. No one else could. Everyone else was either too angry for what he was not, or too caught up in the myth of what he was.

Good job David!
