I bought this in high school when it came out [edit: it turns out that's not true, it came out in 1982, and I bought it later, in 1986] [whoops, it turns out I was right in the first place; the reason the book has copyright years going back to 1982 is because it collects comics for those years]. My copy is tattered and literally falling apart from being read so much. It will make you laugh, it might make you cry, I hope it makes you smile, a lot. It's just wonderful.

Not everything, but everything important

This is Lynda's fourth collection of Ernie Pook's Comeek strips and covers the worlds of Endless Love, Growing Up, Relationships and Problems. As Nicole Hollander said on the back cover, "Anyone who does not laugh at Dr. Lynda J. Barry must be dead".

This book is where you will find the classic strips about Rahoolio, "Would you like to drink more of my pee, Cezer?" and "The Fun House" (later reused as a title to another strip collection).

The expected elements of uncles, Ratfink, teen parties and waiting for that phone call are all present and mostly drawn in pen (before Lynda switched to her current style using mostly brush).

Essential reading for anyone who wants to understand the development of Lynda Barry as an artist (pre-Marlys / Maybonne and the gang) or for anyone who needs a good laugh, an uncomfortable squirm or both.

Barry White has succeded in telling his reader, in a very understandable way, as much about pastels that one can learn from a book. He includes many examples of his wonderful work (usually to illustrate a point), as well as ample demonstrations (also illustrated, in a "step by step" style). His work itself is an inspiration.... just knowing that it's possible to do fairly detailed landscapes in pastel (that look like oil paintings) was exciting for me.

One of the best pastel books

It provides clear and simple instructions in using pastel to create beautiful paintings. Most of the instructions are focused on landscape paintings with a couple of flowers and still life. Basically, it is one of the best pastel books I ever had.

I cannot begin to tell you how very much I enjoyed reading this book. Once I began reading,,I just couldn't put it down until I totally completed it. This book has touched me and brought out many emotions of smiles, laughter and tears and I can relate to it as a chronic caregiver.I recommend this book to everyone not only to people who are in caregiving situations for a member of their family having Alzheimers...but for all family sicknesses.

This book shows that in a spiritual relationship with Jesus Christ there is really no long term pain in the death of a loved one; but the sacred and divine opportunity of completed healing, for the ones who love them. The perfect book for the Alzheimer patient and their family.

Fallen Heroes was a GREAT book! By about page 5 it kicked into high gear, kicked [...], and never let up. The characters were all so well-formed and interesting that, after the planned trilogy, the author could make whole books concentrating on individual characters in the world he has created here.
If you like great action and adventure with a dash of the supernatural thrown in, this is the book for you.

Welcome Back, Pulp Adventure!

Nugent has crafted a pulp inspired sweeping adventure novel that is both exciting and breathtaking. His grasp on characters and motivations feels very inspired from the likes of old black and white pulp serials and Indiana Jones as much as modern television, such as perhaps Spooks. This book is fun, but it's also well written with passion and a love for adventure that transcends genres and comes across as just a great read. Napoleon Stone, who we see on the cover, is a fully realized character with demons of his own.
At the end of the day, a book should be entertaining, and you aren't going to find anything more entertaining than Fallen Heroes. Highly recommended!

In my humble opinion, Dominion is about all that you thought about. If you think the story is a failure then say so. Personally I thought the story was poking fun at evangelists whether they be islamic, christian, jewish, or whatnot.

"Dominion" leaves major questions with the reader.

Is the purpose of "Dominion" in Targan's Falling Free collection--to poke fun at the misguided attempts at dominion of Poverman? Or is it to glorify conversion to Christianity? Or is there no point? Someone please attempt to answer these major questions. The story is otherwise immensely engaging and beautifully written.

This is a fabulous book. It's one of the two best ones on homeopathy I've come across, and I use them both all the time, though this one is perhaps even more comprehensive, and with even more beautiful illustrations. (The other one is "The Complete Guide to Homeopathy" by Lockie and Geddes). For the interested layperson, this book will very much help you figure out what you can do for what ails you (and your family). I've had some great successes using it, as has my husband. It's quite a beautiful book as well, and makes a nice gift. I asked for it one year for my birthday, and have put it to good use ever since.

With so many health trends and new diet fads, it's sometimes hard to know what exactly to do for optimum health. This book answers those questions by covering all of the fundamentals of health including, food types, vitamins, minerals, and specific exercise regimens for optimal fitness. The author covers the nutritional significance of everything from grape seed extract to the peels on our fruits and vegetables.

The second half of the book covers the non-food contributors to our health, including exercise, the effects of stress on the brain and the immune system, and how sleep impacts us as we age.
The book also covers the effectiveness of the most popular diets including Atkins and South Beach and dispels common myths associated with dieting.
This 300-page resource is the only book you'll need for achieving health and fitness. It is incredibly comprehensive and well written. I highly recommend it.

New Year Here I Come!

I received this book for Christmas, and I bet it's all I'm going to need to carry out my New Year's resolutions -- in seven easy steps.
Dr. Parker really covers everything: how to eat, how to exercise, how to relax, how to take charge of one's own health and well-being. I particularly liked being told precisely which foods do what, towards various aspects of good health. And the sections on exercise and weight training are clear and easy to follow, setting out regimes for all levels of fitness.
Based on sound scientific principles and not the latest fad, "Feel Great, Feel Alive" is written in language that strikes me as both accessible and yet chock full of information founded on the latest nutritional and kinetic research -- a highly useful guide towards achieving both a healthy energy-charged body and a keen and stress-free mind.

This unique struggle, of two fugitive POW's between themselves and also against the unseen, relentless helicopter pilot who pursues them, is well worth reading. Barry England's first novel remains a tour de force and should resonate in the reader's mind for quite a while. It is indeed a "novel" in the literal sense. I've never read anything quite like it before or since.

I picked this book up for 25 pence in a surplace book shop, along with two other past Booker Prize nominated titles, a couple of years ago. I didnt expect much, as you might imagine. After about five of six pages my brow was furrowed with anticapation, it was so good I found myself reading it next to the kettle while making a cup of tea. As a short book it was finished in a couple of sittings. If you can get a hold of a copy you I'm sure youll enjoy it, in the same way the three other people who read my copy did. All in all £0.25 well spent wonder Mr England got from that.

P.S I never read the other two books.

Now with a new study guide, Finding Our Way: Jewish Texts And The Lives We Live Today is an examination of how the great texts of Jewish tradition apply to people living in the modern world today. Barry W. Holtz, Florence Baumritter Professor of Jewish Education at The Jewish Theological Seminary and award-winning author, carefully leads the reader through frameworks that Jewish tradition can provide to thinking about God, prayer, ritual, charity, friendship, justice, and other concerns. Especially recommended for adult Jewish learners, educators, and any individual questioning the intersection of holy writings, traditional practices and the demands of daily life.
