There is so much every-day useful knowledge packed into this quick read book. I just couldn't put it down. By applying Barry Farah's principles of business relationships now, I know that my business will survive when the economy isn't as prosperous. Since I read Customer Success I feel have an advantage over my competitors. I have seen immediate results by the positive comments I have received from my clients.

Best Book on Customer Service I have ever Read

Is there a "six-star" category? To compare Farah's theories and apparent practice to the "customer service" I typically receive seems unfair to Mr. Farah and this landmark work. I am glad that Farah renamed the concept and hope that this term will catch on. This primer on serving customers with a constant eye toward helping them succeed is critical to anyone operating a business that has customers! After reading this book, I recently threw out most of my business books full of well-worn sermons on reacting to customers' needs. I have tried many of Farah's strategies, and found that they work! I heartily endorse this book for anyone in any business of any type.

Read a pre-release. Necessity for successful businesses.

It was two steps beyond the theories of customer service that I have seen or heard about before reading Mr. Farah's book. Customer Success is a very innovative book for today's business world. Its invaluable information is definitely a necessity for any entrepreneur who wants to succeed. Mr. Farah does a commendable job of explaining specifically the application of heightened awareness and reiterates the importance of delighting the customer. When times are not so plentiful the businesses practicing Mr. Farah's Customer Success principles will retain their clients and probably bring in the unsatisfied clients from 'customer service' businesses as well.

The author, a retired surgeon, wastes no time serving up the first victim in this suspense-filled police procedural. Set in Northeast Ohio, this book makes for an entertaining and satisfying read. There are unexplained deaths with similarities and it's up to homicide detective Al Maharos to connect the dots and solve puzzle. Along the way he finds that most of the clues all lead to the same destination...a Dead End. Highly recommended.

This authors first novel was spellbinding. I highly reccommend this book to anyone that like thrillers, or stories about police work and ciminals. We follow one police officer through his investigation of what starts out to be one murder, but soon appears to be several murders that are in some way connected, but what way? Following the investigation, the officer discoveres that two of them had a definant connection, which made him persue that somewhere, they were all connected. He has help, one officer from another county, a woman whom he becomes involved with in a personal manner as well as professional, and several male officers from his own precinct. He is under pressure to solve the crimes. We follow from the beginning to the end of his investigation, and have a little surprise in store near the end. The characters were strong willed. The story moved along smoothly. And once again, justice prevails. Fantastic story ! Lets have another one Mr. Friedman!

The second short story is about a displaced man who finds himself in the

Both are award winning stories, but "Enemy Mine" in the original form is the prize here:that which is taught here in is worthy.

I'm a huge fan of "Enemy Mine," and have read every version Longyear has published and every Longyear collection it has been in... "Manifest Destiny" and "The Enemy Papers," to be precise. This is one of the greatest stories of breaking racial barriers and living in peace with people of different cultures ever written. It is just as timely now as ever.

I am hoping that the full length novel version of Enemy Mine that Longyear and David Gerrold (author of "The Man Who Folded Himself" and Star Trek's "Trouble With Tribbles") will be reprinted soon. Longyear is bringing back all of his other books, why not that one? Does the movie studio own the rights? I'm sure Gerrold would like to see it reprinted. It fleshed out the story more, developed the relationship between Shigan and Davidge, and added more Zammis material. The ending was almost the same as the short story only it was expanded and improved. The only version out there is the one with the movie tie-in cover, which is long out-of-print.

Before reading this book I didn't realize how much technology is emerging for renewable energy. The book is a bit repetitive and I find myself suspicious of Mr. Hanson's claims about the possibilities of renewable energy. However, spot checking with a few Google searches I'm finding articles that appear to substantiate the information in this book.

Must Read for Renewable Energy

Review Date: 2006-01-31
I would almost say it is mandatory reading for anyone seriously seeking to develop a reasoned opinion on renewable energy issues. And it is surprisingly easy to read in spite of the technical subject matter.

The scope of the book includes not only a discussion of basic energy concepts and breakthrough technologies (stay tuned for future updates), but also discussions about how energy is acquired, how much is wasted, how much do we really need, how much do we have, and the economic strategies necessary to get there.

What I particularly like about the book:
* The simple graphic presentation of quantified data.
* The extensive footnoting and bibliography.
* The segmented URL listing of internet resources.
* The glossary of terms.

What is missing is a discussion of ethanol and ethanol production processes. He talks in depth about Thermal Conversion Process (TCP) as developed by Changing World Technologies, Inc. and "fast pyrolysis". But he gives no mention to syngas fermentation, enzymatic hydrolysis, or even sugar fermentation - for which there are over 85 production plants in the country producing 2% of U.S. liquid fuel requirements.

Must read for people interested in Renewable Energy

This book addresses the issue..."Can we really get off of fossil fuels or nuclear energy?". The author says...Yes! Since 9-11 I've been reading everything I could find on renewable energy and have begun to lecture about renewable fuels (biodiesel in particular). I'm also on the board of directors of our state's renewable energy association. This book gives a great overview of renewable energy technologies. Much of what I have learned in 3 years of research is covered in this book and quite a lot more.

If you are interested in renewable energy at all, you owe it to yourself to read this book. If you are not interested in renewable energy... you should look into how our economic and national security is gravely at risk because of our dependence on imported fuels. Remember the how the recessions of the 70's and 80's were preceeded by energy shortages? It can happen again. It will happen again.

A concise overview of today's alternative energy technology

Review Date: 2005-01-13
In this recently published book, the author gives a complete, concise overview of alternative energy resources. What I like most about the book is that most of the technology presented in the book is currently available and economically realistic. I think that this book will serve as a resource to all those who would like to increase their knowledge base about non-fossil fuel technologies. Furthermore, I hope that it serves as a platform to evoke dialogue... our current economy is dependent on fossil fuel consumption, but it does not need to be. "Energy Power Shift" demonstrates how we can make changes today that will be better for the environment AND the economy. I highly recommend this book.

The 2007 edition of the "free radical bible". I strongly recommend this book to anyone currently in or seeking to enter the field of free radical biology. Are you a grad student writing quals or T32/F32? A post-doc going for PI/K99? A seasoned PI trying for the second R01 related to free radicals? One of the fastest ways for a proposal to get tossed is to propose questionable methods. Simply reviewing Pubmed is insufficient, since many papers also use questionable methods to assay for species such as superoxide or lipid peroxides. With this book one can easily reference the oxidative stress markers of interest and quickly determine a reliable method that is commonly accepted, as well as pinpoint the paper referenced to include in your own reference section.

Free radical biology has become a big research area. This text is definitely a helpful tool for students and professionals alike. Halliwell and Gutteridge are both the "authorities" in free radical research. The book contains the basic concepts of metabolism, metal interactions, free radical formation, and antioxidation. The book then relates these processes (that is, oxidative and nitorsative stresses) to pathological events using various disease paradigms. The text contains good illustrations. It is an excellent reference material for everyone who is entering the field of free radical biology and medicine.

Barry Hannah is the most successful graduate of the English Department at Mississippi College, however, you will be hard-pressed to find his name mentioned there today. The main reason is this book. This book is largely an autobiography of Hannah, and who knows how much of it is true? The college in the book is Mississippi College, and Hannah's criticisms are honest and embellishing, as are the other observations that he makes in this journey of a book. Geronimo Rex is strangely compelling, and Hannah pulled me right into his head as he tells this story of growing up in the world. Good book, and a must read for anyone from Mississippi College.

This is Barry Hannah's coming of age novel and it is quite fine. The prose is more straigtforward, more traditional than most of his other stuff. It was his first novel and should not be missed by anyone who loves his work.

I am not a student of fiction (though I am an avid reader), but I have rarely enjoyed a book so much as Hannah's Geronimo Rex. His ability for phrasing is unbelieveable (limp, like a wet shoelace draped over a fence) and his ability to mesmerize you with his characters' thoughts made this book one of the best I've ever picked up.

I know this book is out of print and hard to find, but if you can let Amazon.com search it out for you, it is worth the effort. Lopez is at his best form in telling these stories of the coyote trickster. Some of the stories can best be described as ribald versions of the Brer Fox and Brer Rabbit stories. However, these are fresh stories that will engage your imagination and tickle your funny bone. I once entertained a group of young men with these stories one evening around a campfire...young men who thought they were too old to be read to. They laughed and wouldn't let me stop reading until my throat was hoarse. Find a copy if you can!

Review Date: 2000-06-08
Lopez heralds a message to our so-called "modern" Judeo-christian culture from the stone-age past: You can't separate the good from the bad. Coyote resembles nothing short of an agent of Bacchus, welding god-like powers of creation, with basal human desires and weaknesses.

In his anthology, Lopez has focused strictly on the Coyote of Native American lore, and thus has attempted to filter out most of the more modern interpretations and spin-offs, as well as removing any european influences. The observation that Lopez was not entirely successful in this effort shows the difficulty of such a task. The last story, "Coyote Finishes His Work", shows a distinctly "Euro-christian" influence. However, Lopez was at least successful enough to distinguish this piece from Bright's "Coyote Reader". Both are excellent works, and deserve your eye.

Best Coyote Mythology Book Ever
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2001-08-10
Of all the Coyote mythology collections I've read, this is the best. It features an assortment of styles from over 30 tribes, giving a broad sense of what the Coyote is. The author takes great pleasure in the introduction when he states that the greatest mistake is to generalize the Coyote, even to say he is a trickster is sometimes wrong. This book is just as if someone took all their favorite Coyote stories and put them in order (he starts the book at the creation of the Earth, and Man. Ending when "Coyote finishes his work.")

I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to learn about the Coyote.

Intelligent Design, Coyote-style
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 5 total.
Review Date: 2005-09-11
For those people who are still trying to decide between evolution and intelligent design, here is yet another creation story to ponder (or add to the curriculum), this one involving Coyote, who "was not necessarily a coyote, nor even a creature of strict physical dimensions." The subtitle of this book is "Coyote Builds North America."

"Giving Birth to Thunder, Sleeping with his Daughter" is a magical read, like all of this author's books. It is mythology without the density of "The Golden Bough," but still with the serious purpose of teaching world views that may seem strange to non-Amerinds.

I needed to ponder the implications of these stories. I wondered if coyote creation myths were any more unbelievable than the invention of a CNN 'faith and values' correspondent, or the news of a televangelist encouraging his fellow Christians to assassinate a foreign head-of-state. Are they stranger to the human experience than mullahs issuing death fatwas against authors or encouraging followers to gang-rape young women?

Coyote steals, rapes and murders in these sixty-eight stories from forty-two different First Nation tribes. He is a Creator, dupe, loving husband, and lusty rogue; a sorcerous Rhett Butler with a brushy tail and extreme bipolar disorder. My favorite stories involve other clever creatures who dupe the Trickster into eating his own anus or tossing his eyeballs into a tree. It's always good to see a powerful bully with an uncertain temper taken down a notch or two.

Luckily Coyote is able to laugh at himself, unlike certain gods on the other side of the Atlantic.

I understand that this book was written with glass painters in mind, but I have found it to be a wonderful resource for several crafts. The drawings are clear, concise, and scan beautifully for enlargement or reduction. The technique instructions were brief, but surprisingly complete. The designs run the gammut from simple to ornate, humerous to mythical, and everything in between. If I only had one design book to suggest to a beginning crafter this would be it.

When we were approached to put together the Glass Painter's Motif Library it gave us a great opportunity to answer one of our most asked questions - "What shall I paint?" Well you now need to look no further. This book really has something for everyone - something simple to something much harder. It really is very easy to find a design again too as the index to the book is very comprehensive and enables you to find a design quickly. This book is suitable for anyone that needs a design - whether it be a woodworker or a cross stitcher and of course a glass painter or two may also find it very useful - ENJOY. Grace: Thirty years of fashion in Vogue is a delightful collection of some of the most memorable and influential fashion photographs since the nineteen seventies.....all of them touched by the imaginative and chic eye of super stylist and editor Grace Coddington. The range of fashion fantasies is impressive. From the tough erotic chic of helmut newton, whimsical femininity of sarah moon on thru the joyful, innocent sexiness of bruce weber, Miss coddington helps each image become something entertaining and memorable. The printing is terrific , layouts are elegant , plus, perfectly boxed in a delicious and very chic pumpkin. Well worth it's luxe weight....

Also informative in knowing the different ways each photographer preps and how Mrs. Coddington binds with each photographer's concepts. Review and remember the rules for English grammar

Review Date: 2003-01-27
Though this book is on grammar, it is not that hard. It tries to make the subject simple, fun, and the most important thing, easy to remember.

You'll need to make a review of some grammar, but the book is self-contained to that purpose, and it gives you all necessary tools for the work. These tools will help you to understand how to write and speak better English, and if they were not enough for you, every "rule" has examples and these examples, in turn, are explained when needed.

The book recognizes English is a changing language, so there are exceptions for some rules, but it shows you the most general exceptions and helps you to decide which road you should take.

Nonnative English speakers, beware: The book has "fun parts" that could be difficult to understand. If you are not an intermediate or advanced speaker of English, better look for another book.

For Spanish speakers:

este es un buen libro para practicar y aprender gramática inglesa, pero está orientado a hablantes nativos del idioma, no a estudiantes. Si no están en un nivel avanzado, otro libro puede ser mejor.
