Brings a new dimension to World War IIReview Date: 2002-02-16
Through the words of these women, we hear about their friends, love life, battles, air raids and typical military humor. Their thoughts always strayed toward home, but they were all in agreement about one thing. They would not trade places. Each knew that this experience would change them forever. I am sure it did. Their successful work during that time certainly changed the roles of all women forever.

*Nancy Simpson, author of Across Water, Night Student, editor of Lights in the Mountains: Stories, Essays and Poems by Writers Living in and influenced by the Southern Appalachian Mountains.
Glenda Barrett writes poetry the same way she lives*simply, quietly and with deep contemplation and compassion. She begins by inviting you in and making you comfortable before she pierces your heart with a few well-chosen words that raise the curtain on her perceptions of humanity and acceptance of life*s difficulties. She takes what each day brings, its joys, losses, heartbreak, and health challenges and makes poems. When she writes about her mountain grandmother, Mamaw, I experience the immense love between woman and child. Glenda*s poetry makes me feel and think, and I may cry or laugh or just go *ah-ha,* and recognize something in myself I had not seen before. That, to me, is what poetry is supposed to do.

What Shall I Do With So Great Salvation??Review Date: 2003-03-16
Jonah was trying to hide from God, then a big fish with his mouth wide open came swimming toward him. "Which way to Ninevah?' is all Jonah could think about.
The Israelites had a way with them. They often seemed to be trying to hide from God. If only they had realized it and asked, "Which way to where God wants us to be?" But sometimes they diddn't ask. This book is about those times.
Sometimes a few of them remembered and turned around and went the way they should. This book is about them, too.
In fact this book is about times in the Old Testament when Joash and Josiah were boy kings. It's about Jonah and prophets like Isaiah and Jeremiah, and brave people like Daniel and Esther, and builders like Ezra and Nehemiah.
You say you don't think that part of the Bible is exciting?
Just wait until you read it the way Ethel Barrett tells it. She has a way of taking those long passages of Scripture that you can't always understand and saying them in a way that you do understand - sometimes so well that it gets you a little uncomfortable. Just wait until you read those conversations between you and your conscience. They're right here in this book. When you're finished you will probably be saying,
"Which way to MY Ninevah?"
