The story takes place in Manhattan, NewYork, the center of attention, for tourism around the world.Spiderman now has two problems! The hulk is on a rampage through crowded New York streets, at the same time Spidey must get the Hulk to help him destroy the Super Scrull, a rouge alien warrior with the combined powers of the Fantastic Four!

Brings a new dimension to World War II

From the training camps of Texas to the insect invested jungles of the far flung Pacific and from the Red Cross Clubmobiles in the UK to occupied Japan, this book really tells through carefully collected correspondance what the women did "over there." Theirs was an important contribution to the huge war effort and was the foundation of the feminist movement of the sixties. While these normal and healthy young women bemoaned the lack of and longed for hot showers, beauty salons and the latest fashions, not one let their vanity get in the way of their work. They did it all on the war front. Cared for the sick, organized and ordered supplies, and delivered new planes. These were the women of the Army Nurse Corps, the Navy Nurses, the WAVES, WACS and SPARS. The women of the American Red Cross were just as important and I was fascinated to learn that they too were taught how to handle firearms and themselves in all wartime situations.

Through the words of these women, we hear about their friends, love life, battles, air raids and typical military humor. Their thoughts always strayed toward home, but they were all in agreement about one thing. They would not trade places. Each knew that this experience would change them forever. I am sure it did. Their successful work during that time certainly changed the roles of all women forever.

Great historical fiction with intense characters and an intriguing plot. Forgiveness and redemption are found through the terror of the earthquakes. I would recommend this book for the historical presentation and the emotional impact it can have on your life.

Glenda Barrett gives us the most authentic Appalachian voice to rise out of the southern mountains in years. Whether she is eating an apple with a knife or if she is knee deep, fishing in Owl Creek, here is a woman who is as immersed in her environment as in her daily existence. Barrett*s concerns for family and heritage go beyond what happened, for her poems celebrate life, transcend sorrow, and show the reader what was learned.

*Nancy Simpson, author of Across Water, Night Student, editor of Lights in the Mountains: Stories, Essays and Poems by Writers Living in and influenced by the Southern Appalachian Mountains.

Glenda Barrett writes poetry the same way she lives*simply, quietly and with deep contemplation and compassion. She begins by inviting you in and making you comfortable before she pierces your heart with a few well-chosen words that raise the curtain on her perceptions of humanity and acceptance of life*s difficulties. She takes what each day brings, its joys, losses, heartbreak, and health challenges and makes poems. When she writes about her mountain grandmother, Mamaw, I experience the immense love between woman and child. Glenda*s poetry makes me feel and think, and I may cry or laugh or just go *ah-ha,* and recognize something in myself I had not seen before. That, to me, is what poetry is supposed to do.

What Shall I Do With So Great Salvation??

from the back cover of 1978 paperback:
Jonah was trying to hide from God, then a big fish with his mouth wide open came swimming toward him. "Which way to Ninevah?' is all Jonah could think about.

The Israelites had a way with them. They often seemed to be trying to hide from God. If only they had realized it and asked, "Which way to where God wants us to be?" But sometimes they diddn't ask. This book is about those times.

Sometimes a few of them remembered and turned around and went the way they should. This book is about them, too.

In fact this book is about times in the Old Testament when Joash and Josiah were boy kings. It's about Jonah and prophets like Isaiah and Jeremiah, and brave people like Daniel and Esther, and builders like Ezra and Nehemiah.

You say you don't think that part of the Bible is exciting?

Just wait until you read it the way Ethel Barrett tells it. She has a way of taking those long passages of Scripture that you can't always understand and saying them in a way that you do understand - sometimes so well that it gets you a little uncomfortable. Just wait until you read those conversations between you and your conscience. They're right here in this book. When you're finished you will probably be saying,

"Which way to MY Ninevah?"

A worthy successor to Environment and Statecraft

In his previous book, Environment and Statecraft, Scott Barrett elaborated an extremely useful game theory-based approach to international treaty-making. In his new book, Why Cooperate?, Barrett once again applies game theory, in an accessible and convincing way, to several different international cooperation or coordination issues, including climate change, disease eradication, and catastrophe avoidance (e.g., asteroid strikes). Perhaps the book's most important contribution is to unpack the concept of "global public good," by illustrating that different types of global public goods have different properties that (a) make them easier or more difficult to provide and (b) require different approaches to resolving collective action problems. In the first three chapters, Barrett identifies and compares three general types of global public goods: "single best effort" goods; "weakest link" goods; and "aggregate effort goods." In the rest of the book, he addresses the different issues that confront international efforts to provide those various goods. The book is an extremely valuable contribution to several different literatures, including game theory, international relations, climate change, and economic development. Barrett's clear and engaging prose makes it accessible and useful for advanced scholars and casual readers alike. VERY highly recommended.

My 6th grade son and I spent about an hour on the couch perusing this book. It is so full of wonderful nature photography that it is worth the price for that alone. But, the photography lured us into learning more about the many habitats in Africa.

Wild Irish Rogue is fun, funny, and thought-provoking. It's a love story with a twist, a handsome Irish hero, a bookish but beautiful heroine, and a cast of endearing supporting characters plucked from the fertile imagination of the author, Suzanne Barrett.

It made me laugh; made me ache; made me cheer. Plus the writing is superb. --Lynna Banning

Very good history of the plane that held the line...

I personally have been fascinated by the history of the war in the Pacific. In particular, it is the carrier battles that have held my interest and fascination. Barrett Tillman provides an excellent account of the history of one of the most important naval fighters of all time. The F4F held the line against the superior Japanese A6M Zero until more advanced and capable fighters (the F4U and F6F) could be introduced to push the Japanese back across the Pacific Ocean. This book gives the details of the Wildcat's development and battle history, from Midway until the end of the war where it was serving on the escort carriers. This book is highly recommended!
