Ball Books

In her book, "Birth Balls: Use of Physical Therapy Balls in Maternity Care" Polly Perez, has provided the reader with an excellent resource, not only for use in Birthing Units, but also for the pregnant woman and her coach,who have no idea how to use the birthing ball. This book should also be in the library of every pregnant woman and maternity nurse.

Ms Perez covers it all from prenatal uses for the birthing ball to uses in the laboring process. This is an excellent resource with pictures to demonstrate the use along with great text. This book is a must have for those considering the implementation birthing balls in their unit. Pregnant woman will be want to read this valuable book during pregnancy and learn how to use the ball to ease pregnancy aches and pains and then use the ball during labor and birth.

As a director of the Family Birth Suites at Cape Coral Hospital, the staff encourages the use of the birthing balls in our daily clinical practice. This year, we were able to utilize this resource as a teaching aid in our nurse internship class for new labor and delivery RN's. It is very important to be able to show the new nurse how to utilize this important labor comfort measure! The use of the birthing balls in our facility has increased our patient comfort and our customer statisfaction scores along with it!

Take time to savor the poetry of this title. It is meant to be taken in, tasted and understood. Poetry is an art that so few can master and still remain contemporary. The Black Ball is an example of a job well done in this art form.

The lives of college students are revealed in this story told through poem. College life apparently isn't what it used to be, and the young are no longer as young as they were. The book chronicles four years of interactions, learnings, and life, of several students. Within the pages are revenge and life lessons, hatred and understanding.

This is not light reading; it is a memorable experience.

This book is what appears to be a compilation of SHOOT MAGAZINE's different articles. It is all black and white with the exception of a few full page inside cover ads. Material is similar to "GUNS of the Old West" Magazine, but the articles (chapters) are more in depth and has more about actual shooting experiences than just reviews of various guns. Also includes some black powder cartridge reloading info, which seems very hard to come by if you don't shoot long range rifle matches. Normally I am hesitant to buy magazine compilation "books", but the quality and variety of info in this book make it well worth even the full cover price. GREAT book for those getting into black powder shooting - especially those interested in Cowboy Action type shooting. People who enjoy reading about "old west" guns and related history will find it a good read as well. It may be slightly less useful to those solely interested in long range single shot black powder range matches, as there are better sources for that type of info.

Stefan Ball, of the Dr. Edward Bach Centre and Bach Foundation has come up with a unique approach to understanding and using the Bach Flower Remedies with this book, one that looks beyond the descriptions of what the individual flowers do and how to choose and use them (scores of books are available that do this already, some with him as author, no less). The focus here, as one can gather from the subtitle, is on personal and spiritual development and growth. I am not usually one who even considers reading so-called "self-help" books, but since I am heavily involved with the Bach system, including training to become a practitioner, I already had an interest in that part of the subject. This book does cover in detail, in chapters alternating with more philosophical ones, what each of the 38 Bach Flower Remedies do, but even here, there are more in-depth descriptions and different ways of looking at the Remedies, using many thoughtful examples (some from the author's own life experiences), than usually appear in these books. Every other chapter covers topics such as intuition, peak experiences, simplicity and finding one's life purpose not only as they relate to using the Bach system, but also how they have been discussed throughout history by philosphers, authors and scientists. This sounds like it could get rather heavy pretty quickly, but Ball keeps the tone light and the style of writing almost conversational so that the book is very easy and quick to read while conveying a wealth of useful information that makes you think about your own life. For someone already using the Bach Flowers, Bloom offers fascinating, fresh insight into using them for a deeper purpose, beyond, say, "merely" taking them for relieving depression. For someone new to Bach Flowers, it provides a wonderful starting point, complete with all the basic information as well as an underlying theme that can be tapped into when the time is right. Seventy years on, Bach Flowers continue to help people change their own lives. Bloom brings forward this message in a comfortable, inspiring fashion which is destined to make it a classic.

Having watched the movie "Hoosiers" a number of times, I was quite pleasantly surprised by this powerful account of the real-to-life coach of the Milan Indians. . .The movie certainly missed the point of what actually happened to the young man who crafted one of basketball's most memorable legends. . .

From the joy of the victory with Milan to the pain of losing his only son to drugs, the Marvin Wood story is a touching account of an educator who knew who to inspire. . .

If you like basketball and you have ever rooted for the underdog you will love this book. . .

It was one of the funniest books that I have ever read. After reading this book, I felt that I knew more about baseball than I did before. I thought the author knew a lot about kids and the way they play baseball when they are young.

Excellent but unfortunately the story ends in 2004.
And a lot of things has happened since that.
Wait for the next edition!

I have the July 1990 edition and read it with the same enthusiasm I had reading "Pillars of the Earth" by Ken Follet. I have placed these two books together on my shelf and have recommended both of them to many of my friends. I'm just sorry that it's not available in hard cover.

This book will be a classic among Ken Follett's "Pillars of the Earth" and Edith Pargeter's "Heaven Tree" trilogy!
