This story was hilarious. I began reading it to my second graders and they didn't want to leave when the bell rang. They wanted to stay for the finish. The curiosity of the prairie dogs was believable and as always, Janet Stevens' illustrations were wonderful. It was very creative to see the ways the little guys could use the "fuzz". Loved it.

What fun and a winner of an award!

This wonderfully rendered book won the 2007 Colorado Children's Book Award through the CCIRA, Colorado chapter of the International Reading Association. The coolest part of this award was that the books are nominated AND voted by the children of Colorado. Janet Stevens has an AMAZING talent in this and many other books. She is fabulous in school visits and is an engaging person. Watch her, she will win that coveted Caldecott someday!

As a speech and language expert with Play on Words, I look for great language enhancing books: Violet, the dog, innocently drops her tennis ball down a prairie dog's tunnel, setting off the "fuzz frenzy." "Boink, thump, rumble, and plunk" is just the beginning of this delightful journey of a fuzzy ball through the land of prairie dogs, filling your child with rich vocabulary and delightful drawings. Bossy Big Bark is the control freak who wants everyone to stay away from the questionable object while Pip Squeak ventures forth for a look. The new found fuzz is stretched, tugged, spiked and twirled into creative hats, belts, rabbit ears and Indian headdresses. Children learn that language is fun when combined in tangles like "fuzz fiesta," and "fuzz fandangle." Naturally there is competition over who will get this new green fuzzy treasure and Pip Squeak is mortified that he had started a battle over the fuzz. Big Bark returns, having stolen all the fuzz, only to be plucked up by an eagle in need of a meal. The prairie dogs rally to save one of their own and Big Bark returns in his protective role over the pack.

Children like to match the drawings with the descriptions: "top dog, corny dog and frilly dog." Take some time to make a list of your child's descriptive words for Big Bark (bossy, ornery, inconsiderate, impatient) and Pip Squeak (inquisitive, kind, leader). Building good descriptive words will prepare your child for writing interesting stories. Do they have a friend like Big Bark? Or is their friend more like Pip Squeak? One little girl that I read this book to was having a little trouble with a bossy friend. What an opportunity to work through issues with peers.

Before turning the page of The Great Fuzz Frenzy, make a prediction about what is going to happen. Parents try it too and see what a variety of options you come up with. One little boy saw the sky go black and predicted a storm was coming. All guesses are good and encouraged. This helps your child think creatively, expand on stories, and strengthen his language skills.

I first read this book at a teacher workshop and fell in love with the story and the varied page formats. (Some pages unfold vertically to show the underground tunnels!) This is not only a fun book to look at, the kids giggled all the way through it as the plot unfolded. This could be used in reader's workshop to teach point of view, predicting, inferring, sound effects, or it could also be used to spur a discussion on friendship and cooperation. We did an author study on this sister authir/illustrator pair and the students love how they have a sense of humor and are a bit silly in their stories. I LOVE IT TOO! :O)

TRULY A FUN READ. THE KIDS LOVE IT!

One day a dog drops a green, fuzzy tennis ball down a hole which is the home of a group of prairie dogs. The fun then begins. This strange object, with the strage and wonderful fuzzy stuff absolutely fascinates each member of the prairie dog city. The little critters come up with some rather unique uses for the green stuff. The illustrations are wonderful as is the story. It is actually funny and a joy to read.

I read this one to the younger classes at school and the kids love it. I get quite a number of requests for rereads, which is a pretty good endorsement for any children's book. There are several fold out pages which show various parts of the prairie dog city which makes it ideal for reading to a group. The text is great and holds the interest of the children. The art is colorful, funny and well executed.

This one really should be in your reading library. I use it for kindergarten through third grade, although I suspect that even the ones that are a bit older even enjoy it. I know I do.

This one has great illustrations and greater lyrics. It's a natural to turn into a song, which my (3 & 2-yr old) children love to dance and sing along to. Even my husband doesn't complain when we sing it loudly in the car.

Hi! I'm a 25 year old "career freshman" as Ball likes to put it. I first picked up this book after my first corporate contract job ended to figure out what went wrong and why they had to let me go.

The book's layout reminds me of "Don't Sweat the Small Stuff", with 2-3 pages dedicated to each "lie". Each topic has interesting side notes and captions and is really written to an audience that's straight out of college, comparing subjects like the hiring process and HR recruiters to dating and one-night stands. Ball breaks down each topic in simple english and at times it seems more like an older frat brother is giving you advice rather than a career counselor. I actually enjoyed reading this book and was able to get through the whole thing in about a week.

The only downsides I have about this book are that his punchlines become somewhat predictable as you progress through the book and that the online resources seem more like a place to hype up Michael Ball's achievements than as a place to learn and share about getting through your first job. It would also help if there was an interactive online forum, like other books catered to twentysomethings (e.g. Suze Orman's YF&B).

Still, I highly recommend this book to all of you out there who are still lost and confused in the corporate world. Good luck to you all!

It's funny how things come to you just when you need them... After joining a mid-sized Internet company straight out of school, I found myself doing OK with my actual work, but making a lot of interpersonal mistakes I didn't see coming. For instance, after my manager denied a project request--one that I really wanted--I decided to go talk to some other people about getting on the team. In school, this always worked for me.

But in the office, I painfully found out, this is a huge mistake! And just one of many that Michael Ball expertly--and very entertainingly--illustrates and cautions against. What I appreciated most about You're Too Smart for This was that the author is "on the level" with you--he doesn't pull any punches, and talks to you like a big brother might. One you actually like, that is ;)

The structure of the book--the "lies"--make it an easy and fun read the first time around, but also ensure that you can quickly pick it back up later on as a reference guide for whatever situation you're in (e.g., promotions, quitting, etc.).

Do yourself a big favor and check out this book--even if you think you already know the rules. I can practically guarantee you'll learn some valuable new insights. Plus have a great laugh while you're at it!

You're Too Smart for This, to me, encapsulated exactly what I'm experiencing as a relatively new accountant at Ernst & Young. All of the day-to-day BS I found myself struggling with, Michael Ball shines a light on, and really talks you through.

But I have to admit, one of my favorite parts of this book is all of the quotes and sidebars! There's got to be well over 200--from everyone from Aristotle to Peter Drucker to Bill Gates to Jeff Gordon to Sharon Stone. Plus the author gives his own little sarcastic twist in the attribution, which I found to be a great addition.

The callout boxes, in fact, are full of really solid research--pulled from sources such as the US Census Bureau, Harvard Business Review, New York Times, Fast Company, Monster.com, and countless others.

The book, in total, is really a compendium of all the entry level wisdom that's out there. And then some. If you've just stepped into Corporate America, don't take another step without this book!

What I found most valuable in this book--besides the sheer entertainment value--was how the author takes what are typically confusing and hush-hush topics (e.g., managing your manager, dealing with difficult coworkers, getting a good promotion, finding a work/life balance), and gets at the root of the issue.

It's not a prescriptive as some other books, maybe; there's no "Step 1, Step 2" stuff in there. But what Michael Ball does is give you the principles behind all the big issues... Sort of the tool box, and then you go build it however it works for you.

If you're looking for the truth behind the curtain, this is definitely your book.

You're Too Smart for This is a fast, fun, and refreshingly honest take on what it takes to really survive and thrive as a new corporate "grunt." I was actually a little surprised at how far the author takes some of the humor...but I found myself laughing and nodding in agreement the whole time!

After 4 or 5 years of dry, slow college textbooks, this is the crash course you've been waiting for. You'll be able to use your new knowledge tommorow--and have a much stronger understanding of what's going on around you. Because, as Michael Ball points out, you've only got 90 days now to prove you were worth hiring...

In a sea of baseball novels, this book is not just a home run, it's a Grand Slam!

As a father of two handicapped sons playing in the Little League Challenger Baseball program, The Legend of Mickey Tussler connected with me in ways you can't possibly imagine. However, any ardent follower of America's Pastime will find this book to be an engaging, pleasurable read.

Author Frank Nappi has such wonderful command of the English vocabulary and utilizes his lexis like a venerable college professor.

Although this book is written as a novel, it is entirely possible that this scenario could one day play itself out. And I'd like to believe that in today's handicapped-sensitive society, Mickey Tussler might enjoy a happier ending.

This is the emotional tale of a young autistic baseball player who struggles to achieve success both on and off the field. I found the characters to be both real and engaging and the storyline truly compelling. I think this sort of story will do much to promote awareness of autism and sensitivity toward those who have the condition. The character Mickey Tussler is truly memorable.

Frank Nappi has been able to create this masterpiece not only because he is a lover of baseball, but because of his love of life. Frank, in my opinion is a man among men because he has dedicated his life to serving others. As an educator, coach, father, and loving husband, he addresses life with a certain look in his eyes as if he has a secret unbeknown to the rest of the world. Frank and I have kicked the same dirt from beneath our spikes, and I have learned a great deal about his secret. Behind those eyes is a man that remains a student in life, despite his wealth of experience, strength, and hope, which he shares unselfishly with the rest of the world.
Mickey Tussler is in all of our lives in some way, shape, or form. For some of us, he is close to home; perhaps our brother or sister. Mickey's disability, while challenging in some ways, reveals genius in others. Baseball to me, and I believe Frank will agree, is as pure as life itself. On the field of dreams is where boys become men. It is also where men become boys. Baseball teaches us how to interact with others, and how to deal with life on life's terms. Frank has been able to create a platform that reveals the underdog, the challenge, the obstacle, and the near impossible. Most inspiring to me was Frank's ability to also reveal the human spirit, undying love, determination, and the uphill battle that reveals the heart of a lion.
Baseball, like life, is full of up's and down's. We all have our cross to bear. In baseball, statistics are tracked unlike any other sport. Failures are as critically documented as are our successes. If we accepted life as we do baseball, we would learn that it is o.k. to give a great effort and fail, because the glory resides in the heart of a champion, and not on a scoreboard some 400 feet down the left field line. Life may often seem unfair, which drives us to the extreme in our perception of a job well done. Sometimes in life the only thing that seems fair is a ball hit between first and third.
Frank has revealed a dynamic to the expression of baseball in how it relates to life. Mickey Tussler is not just a young man in a book. He is the heart of Frank Nappi. I implore you to read about Mickey, and in the process you will find Frank. Perhaps you will find yourself, as you read not only page by page, but deeply inbred is the message we should live our life by. Frank Nappi is a champion who chooses to make his mark in this world by delivering a message that will live long after he is gone. Like Mickey, you will remember him always.

Arthur Murphy is the coach and scout for the minor league Milwaukee Brewers. He used to be a baseball star before a collision with another player injured him and ruined his promising career. But he's also a good and caring man, which is why, when he meets odd Mickey Tussler, a hulking seventeen-year-old farm boy with an ability to throw very accurately, he is determined to help both of them by recruiting Mickey to pitch for the Brewers. Mickey has an arm like no one has seen, and his early successes on the field help him win over the hearts of his teammates and fans. But jealousy from an opposing team and even a disgruntled teammate stack the odds against Mickey, especially when Murph and Pee Wee, one of Mickey's closer teammates, aren't there to protect him. Mickey's situation is even more difficult because he suffers from autism, although this was before it had a name. The world of minor league baseball is a tough one, and Mickey and his team, the Brewers, are definite underdogs.

There is a colorful cast of characters presented in "The Legend of Mickey Tussler," which I found overwhelming at times. There were so many players and teams to remember that I often got confused, especially towards the beginning of the novel. However, as the story progressed, I got used to the most important characters. In a strange way, I felt I really got to know these characters even though I felt there wasn't much characterization. Most of the characters, especially Molly, Murph, and Mickey, were extremely likeable even through their faults, and I found myself sympathizing with them. I really would've loved for Mickey's character to have been more developed, because the story was mainly about him, but I found his characterization disappointingly lacking. Nevertheless, I found Mickey's character so admirable because he was able to survive and prevail against all the odds. Nappi does a good job of showing each character's flaws as well as positive attributes; it made the characters seem more human, which made the story all the more realistic.

Plot-wise, I had a few issues. Sometimes, I felt that there was just too much going on at once and so many subplots that they were rather hard to keep track of. And I also found the ending a little disappointing, but only because I would've liked the story to continue. And though I was disappointed, I did feel that the story ended with a perfect blend of sadness and hope. It's through the last few pages of the novel that you can really feel the book yelling to you to not give up.

The plot in "The Legend of Mickey Tussler" was never too action-packed except during the ballgames. I found that even with my limited baseball education, I was able to understand much of the terminology used in this novel. Since "The Legend of Mickey Tussler" focuses so much on baseball though, readers who aren't interested in this team sport may have a hard time maintaining their interest in the story. Even though I am not a devoted baseball fan, though, I really liked how baseball was so well-incorporated into this story.

It's kind of hard to explain what exactly in this novel made me like it so much. Despite some of the issues I had with the book, I truly enjoyed reading "The Legend of Mickey Tussler," by Frank Nappi, and thought it was well-written. I recommend this novel for the male audience or for any baseball fans. Mickey Tussler's difficult journey is sure to win over the hearts of many readers, as it did mine.

While reading The Legends of Mickey Tussler I never wanted to put it down. It's one of those books that you need to know whats going to happen to the characters, or what is going to happen next. Nappi's story about how a 17 year old with autism is brought into the game of baseball is exciting, but a little sad at times. Just picturing how this boy is able to pitch the way he does is incredible. I am not a big fan of baseball, but this story made me more interested in the sport by the end of the book. As I was reading the book I was able picture what was happening with Mickey on and off the baseball field. By the end of the story made me want to read more, and keep following Mickey's story. This is definately a great book, and everyone should read it at some point.

I book a lot of Disney World vacations for clients and bought this book as a resource that I figured I would use occasionally. I was pleasantly surprised by the depth and scope of issues addressed within the book. The authors did a really good job of listing every attractions and describing elements that might create an issues for guests with various needs.

For example - you expect a book specializing in disabilities to address wheelchair access and loading proceedures. You don't automatically assume that it will mention that a musty smell might be an issue for someone with respiratory issues or that a strobe light might be an issue for an epileptic or a migrain sufferer.

Instead of using the book from time-to-time, I've found myself flipping through it regularly to help clients address a wide spectrum of issues - both mild and serious - and even to warn parents about frightening componants of various attractions. The book also has a lot of information for guests with food allergies.

This book will be a fantastic resource for the individual traveler but it is also a great ready reference for travel agents who really try to go the extra mile to insure a good experience for their clients.

When my grandmother recently called to say she wanted to visit Disney, I was a bit hesitant. I assumed that we would face too many obstacles to enjoy a visit since she doesn't walk very well and is diabetic. But aiming to please my favorite grandmother, I began researching our options and stumbled upon this excellent book by author Stephen Ashley.

We used the book as a tool when we planned our trip to Disney. The best part about this book is that it is a guide; you do not need to read the entire book in one sitting. It comes packed with all sorts of information, including useful telephone numbers and Web sites. With nearly 200 pages, the book covers things you should know about Magic Kingdom (my favorite!), Epcot, Hollywood Studios (formerly MGM Studios) and Animal Kingdom, and the author even has an accompanying Web site that I found extremely valuable.

We learned where to find wheelchair rentals, and how restaurants and attractions accommodate people with disabilities or limited mobility. The book also gave detailed descriptions about the attractions and what to expect. And with my grandmother's diabetes, I especially found useful tips about special diets and how to deal with insulin shots (You can actually have it refrigerated at the First Aid station, or just bring a small cooler pack). The book also provides information for people who have epilepsy, bladder or stomach problems, allergies and visual impairment, among other things.

The book gave great tips about staying at Disney's resorts. Initially, I planned for my grandmother to stay with me since I live in Central Florida, but after reading this book, I realized the immense value of staying on property. First of all, when you stay at any Disney resort, you are guaranteed admission to the parks even when they reach capacity. The resorts also make sure ALL their room doors are big enough for wheelchairs to pass through, and you can make special room requests when you book your stay. I never knew these things, and I've lived here and have visited Disney almost my entire life!

As a volunteer in the Orlando-area, I deal with children who have physical and developmental disabilities, and I wondered how their parents found accommodations for them throughout the park. I always was curious how they did it all but still made sure their family had an enjoyable time. This book answered that question, and I had an amazing experience with my family when we visited the parks.

I really felt that Ashley wrote with an in-depth knowledge from years of experience. According to the introduction, he spent several years researching and experiencing how to navigate through Disney. He provides easy-to-read information about the best way to experience the parks, despite your sensitivities or disabilities.

I also loved about this guide how frank the author is. He tells you exactly what problems he and his family have run into when they have visited Disney and how they went about solving them.

After reading this guide, I realized something: Disney's magic truly is for everyone. It just takes some planning, and this guide helped my family and I have a wonderful time.

If you couldn't tell already, I highly recommend it!

Walt Disney World with Disabilities by Stephen Ashley provides a thorough and personal compilation of tips and descriptions that can only come from years of experience. By using the insight he has gained through his numerous trips to Disney World, the author leaves nothing out.

This book can be used in various ways: for preparation and as a guide while at the park. I found it useful at the park to read the ride descriptions before taking my chances on an attraction. His descriptions evoke all of the senses, so I felt assured that there would be no surprises.

It made the trip relaxing and enjoyable. I would highly recommend it to anyone planning a trip to Disney World with disabilities of any kind.

I love the paperback version of this book because it is spiralbound. It has laminated pages, great for the garden, keeps it clean. The book is organized by flowering month that helps find plants you can't identify or to locate plants for a certain month that you need more color in your garden. I live in the Chicago area and it seems to cover a lot of plants for my planting zone. Each plant has the information I need to choose for certain areas of planting. It's a great book!

Pam Duthie shows that it is relatively easy to keep perennial beds and borders looking good and in bloom from March through October in eastern North America. Two hundred and seventy-two of the best perennials, each with a full-color photo, are arranged in order of bloom time. For each plant, there is necessary information for home gardeners such as: plant hardiness zone, height/width, descriptions of flower and foliage, bloom time, light and soil requirements, care, propagation, and potential problems. A good investment for beginning as well as experienced gardeners.

This book is a novice gardener's dream come true!
The flowering plants & colorful bushes are arranged by month of blooming time, each page has a picture of the plant & a detailed description of it: Type, flower size, foliage color, bloom length, light preference, care problems, tips, etc..
There are planting & seasonal garden care tips at the end of the book.
As a novice gardener I'm glad that I found this book to help me create a continuously blooming garden.

This book is page after page of super basketball information. It goes into great detail offenses and defenses from simple to complex. But best of all, it is written with an emphasis on the fundamentals, which will make any team better. I really recommend this book for any coach, beginner to seasoned veteran, there is a wealth of valuable information from cover to cover.

I coached a camp this past summer in which a few coaches were discussing this book and referred to it as "The Holy Grail" of basketball books. To any coach looking for new perspectives and strategies, I would strongly recommend this book. You may not be able to use everything, and some of the information is a bit dated, but it prompted a million ideas of my own, and helped me plan out some fresh drills, plays, and defenses for my team.

I enjoyed this book and was very informed by it. I doubt you can find more detailed background data about Lucille Ball's work (from the beginning of her career to the end, from stage to the big and small screens) and her (lesser known) co-stars and co-workers anywhere else. The problem is, I'm a new fan to Lucy and I wanted to read about her life in a more conventional way (where she was born, raised, her influences, her marriage, children, etc). Those types of books got such mixed reviews from fans that I thought I'd start with this one, which had only positive reviews. There is some basic bio in this book, but it assumes you know that type of information about Lucy. So I would just say: make sure you don't start with this book if you're a new fan. It's like getting to know her backwards (everyone around her instead of the star herself). This is definitely a book for seasoned fans who want to know "more."

A must read for any Lucy fan!

This new paperback biography of Lucille Ball is something different, an "A to Z" run through her life, sprinkled with the author's opinions. I actually agreed with most of them, and the breezy style and content is the perfect antidote for a depressing day. Read it and love Lucy all over again.

I loved the format, the authors perspective and views were interesting and unique and you could tell he was a real Lucy fan (who isn't). Add this book to your cart and you won't be disappointed. You can read it again and again because of the unique way it is written. A must for Lucy fans. Enjoy!

I liked the fact that the author spent enough time in explaining the various exercises in the book.I was really impressed by this, because I've bought other books in the market, and I felt that their messages weren't really clear.I found the book extremely useful, because my clients were already familiar with basic balance ball workouts. The exercise in here, injected some new life into my client's workouts.

A great total body experience!!

Body Sculpt has given me more tools for my at-home workouts. I occasionally use the exercises at the gym and some of my friends are amazed at what can be accomplished with the fitness ball.

This book has great photos and personal training tips to build up your "core" which gets you motivated to try the advanced balance poses and exercises.

If you have a fitness ball and love it, you must get this book. It will re-motivate and amaze you. The results are great and the satisfaction that you can achieve an advanced state is even better.

Having been athletically active all of my life, I am nevertheless concerned that, as I get older, my flexibility and balance is deteriorating. Mr.Frediani's book was suggested as presenting a means of improving these attributes. I obtained the book and asked my trainer to incorporate it into my regular workout. We have done so and the results have been very satisfying. I highly recommend use of the exercise ball and Mr. Frediani's book. It adds to my routine elements of pilates and yoga, and makes interesting a workout which otherwise was getting all too routine. By the way, I'm having trouble getting the book back from my trainer.

I'm a fitness instructor looking for more natural exercises to keep my clients away from machines. Paul's PowerSulpt workouts do exactly that. This book has allowed me to build out my client's routnies with safe alternatives to heavy weights and machines and also provides elements of balance and complexity that mimic moves in ways that people do natuarally in everyday life.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge Mr. Frediani.

A wonderful book on swiss ball exercises that compliments and is the third supporting leg of a total workout when combined with weight training and aerobics. The exercises look easy but the effort involved is a challenging workout that is very satisfying. This book is not just for women!!! I enjoyed this book and use it daily along with variations from Paul Fredian's other book Surf Flex. I am 56 years old and these exercises have improved my indurance, strength and flexibility.
