My 1 year old read this story book first time from the public library and he just did not want to stop! I ended up bought this one and couple other rabbit books for him and he loves to read them every night before going to bed. The illustrations are lovely and very easy for eyes. Together with a very interesting storyline to introduce ABCs for babies, it's a perfect gift for babies and toddlers to start their reading adventures.

Another wonderful Little Rabbit Book

Once again Alan Baker has written a book with beautiful pictures that fit in with the text. The text is simple enough for young readers, yet still informative enough to be educational at the same time. All together this makes for a book which can be enjoyed by children, while teaching them in an unconfusing manner.

Unpacking All the Definitions of Blasphemy, I
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-06-09
Popular opinion is that one blasphemes by either claiming to be Almighty God (John 10:33) or speaking against the Holy Spirit (Matthew 12:41).

Bock's scholarly work unpacks ALL the reasons the Jewish literature reveal as definitions of the capital offense of blasphemy. He makes clear that to limit Jesus' claims as being one or both of the above is uninformed thinking. To claim to be the Christ/the Messiah was sufficient for being put to death, whether there was a connection with a claim to be God Almighty or not. Interestingly, however, the Jewish leaders were somewhat selective in which of those who claimed to be Messiah they would seek to put to death. Jesus wasn't apparently into taking out the Romans, so strike him out as a legitimate claimant to the position.

That he may have claimed to be "a god" as opposed to the Almighty God is quite permissible in the Greek at John 10:33. Bock's book will show why the desire to stone Jesus, although a lethal position to take, entailed a blasphemy of a sort not usually expected. One could be guilty of blasphemy, Bock reveals, for claiming close ASSOCIATION with not only God but with patriarchs like Abraham especially (Consider how that bears on Jesus' comment at John 8:58, "Before Abraham was born I am he" (i.e. the Messiah).

[...]

Warning: this book is not for the faint of heart and one who wants to skim the contents over tea and crumpets. A knowledge of Greek and Hebrew will greatly enhance ones appreciation of this book. At the very least, have at your side a good formal equivalence translation (NASB, RSV, ESV, NET Bible) and a Strong's concordance.

Great Scholarship - AND Evangelical!

As I prepare to write an academic paper on Matthew 24:30 and Jesus' claim to be the "Son of Man" coming on the clouds with power and great glory, I find no other resource as helpful as Darrell Bock's "Blasphemy & Exaltation."

The scholarship is impeccable. His evaluation of critical scholarship is incisive and largely critical, yet he does not try to "beat something with nothing." He offers his own evaluations of the evidence in compelling ways. His compiling of Jewish views on Blasphemy makes for a tremendous resource for any student of the New Testament to make sense of Jesus' claims.

Do you want to know what Jesus actually claimed at his trial? Do you want to know what was so offensive to the ears of Jewish leaders so as to merit capital punishment? Read this book.

One caveat: if you are not used to reading works of scholarship on the New Testament (i.e. you are a layperson), this work can get very technical. You need to be aware of the tools of NT criticism (form, source, redaction, literary, etc.)in order to understand Bock's interaction with them. In other words, this book is not for everybody. It's not a "popular" treatment. But, if you want a workout, go for it!

I am very grateful to Dr. Bock for this resource.

Monemental work in literature of the world politics

This is a monummental work in the study of world politics. Those who want to go beyond text book knowledge of international politics should read this book. In it, Raymond Aron combines theory, sociology, history, and praxiology with profound insight and encyclopedic knowledge. Although his analyses can be difficult for American sudents far from 'philosophizing social science,' must teach you how to think of politics among nations. Profound, brilliant, insightful, marvelously written, in short, this is the most important book in international relations.

Tools necessary for prompt, clear, cogent thinking

A work of impressive scholarship by political and social theorist Raymond Aron (1905-1983), and featuring a new introduction by Daniel J. Mahoney (Associate Professor of Political Science, Assumption College) and Brian C. Anderson (Senior Editor of "City Journal"), Peace & War: A Theory Of International Relations develops and presents analytical tools necessary for prompt, clear, cogent thinking about the stakes, conflicts, and possibilities of contemporary international relations. Denouncing the idea that a simple "science" can deterministically and inflexibly predict the complexities of international relations, and rejecting both the amoral view of Machiavellians and the naivete of political idealists, Peace & War: A Theory Of International Relations is an absorbing, informative study of human behavior on a grand scale which is very highly recommended for International Studies, Political Science, and Multinational History reference collections and reading lists.

Good for beginners

I have three bread books and this is still my favorite. It has an introductory section for beginners and a beginners recipe. The recipes are much easier to follow than those in the bread book put out by Laurel's Kitchen. The recipes are based on baking traditions from around the world and include recipes for batter breads as well as yeast breads.

A baking classic

This was one of my first cookbooks and still one of my favorites. (I have the first edition.) For each month of the year there are 5-6 recipes including (usually) a yeast bread, a sourdough, a quick bread, and a sweet bread--all appropriate to the season. The cheese bread (October) and pumpernickel (November) are favorites! The photos are from the first edition, published in the 70s, and are humorously appropriate to that era--lots of long-haired, peaceful looking types mixing dough out in the woods!

A variety of good bread recipes

Review Date: 2008-01-22
I've had this book for years, and I still use it when I make bread. I like the fact that many different home bakers contributed recipes, so there is an amazing variety of breads to choose from. The bulk of the recipes are for yeast breads, but quite a few cornbread and other quick breads as well. A lot of the recipes use whole wheat flour and other whole grains. There is a thorough explanation of bread baking technique and ingredients. There is also a chapter on sourdough. Try the whole wheat rolls on pg. 247 - fabulous!

My mother gave me a copy of this book, & it has become my bread bible. I've made many recipes from this book, & they've all been good. All recipes use natural ingredients, which for me is very important. If you can only afford to buy one bread cookbook, you should buy this one. It's great!

I loved this book

When going from whole grain wheat flour to white flour we lose from 60 to 80% of 12 out of 13 nutrients present at good, or excellent level in Whole Wheat. I loved this cookbook because all the recipes were for whole flours, and never white refined carbohydrates.

In this book you learn how to make a sour dough starter, and how to maintain it. You also learn about natural rise bread which is made without any yeast at all.

I highly recommend this book; unfortunately, I could not find another copy to buy. It seems to be out of print.

Best textbook for abnormal psychology
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2000-04-04
It is unfortunate that this text is temporarily out of print. It is the bex text book on abnormal psychology. Having served as adjucnt associate professor for a state college as well as teaching Bible college, this is the most accurate text that I have seen. Dr. Meyers is a leading expert on depression and children's problems. This book however covers a full gamet of abnormal psychology with unusually astute treatment suggestions. What many people do not realize is that many psychiatrist lack common sense, and good counseling depends on so called common sense, Dr. Meyers and associates display a wisdom that those of us who have been in practice of mental health much appreciate. This would be a very good book for young therapist of any belief system to read and pick up concepts of treatment. Yet, the book is written in a simple style that a college freshman can read and understand. An outstanding piece of work that should not be out of print.

This book is great. Young readers will find it easy to follow, and will be enchanted by the story of Bruno and his friend Felix as they bake a birthday cake. Be warned, there is a cake recipe at the end of the book, and your child will most certainly want to try it.

After purchasing this book for my son, I decided to buy two more copies for his classroom library. Besides having a great story and pictures, the hardback book has thick pages that should stand up well to constant readings.
