This book is amazing, and is my husband's new found hobby book and is already well-read. It is extremely thick for being a mere paperback, and arrived damaged. My only complaint is that it seems to not be ready for the hard wear and tear these mycologists will surely be exuding. The book itself is even more than we hoped for, and is an amazing resource.

It's an excellent book, but could be perfect if it has color spore charts, one of the most important taxonomic features are spore color and Arora recognize this on his book, why let that out?

Superb field guide for the mushroom greenhorn and connoisseur alike. Great color photos with all sorts of information about the little guys that you could ever imagine. They also warn about which ones to stay away from - always a good thing. Even if you're not into them that much, it's still a great book to have around the house just in case you ever want to know what kind of mushrooms are growing in your neighborhood. This would be an excellent book for a classroom or a great gift for a kid who's into being outdoors. Boy & Girl Scouts and groups like that would find this book indispensable for outings and general knowledge.
*Note* There is also a pocket guide that I own that is great too, and much more easy to lug around than this compendium.

This book is wonderful. It is just packed with information for keeping your cat healthy. Wonderfully written and illustrated with side notes filled with bursts of info that you will reflect back to over & over again. Most treatments, for common cat aliments, are all natural cures but it also lets you know when to call the vet & how to be a partner with your vet when your cat needs medical aid. Beautifully illustrated with rich photos of normal cats. Good book for anyone regardless of experience with cats. You will learn why you cat does what they do and what to do when it is a problem. Info ranges from kittenhood to litter box to calorie control to illness remedies - this book will never get dusty on a shelf, it has gained a permanent spot on the table by my chair.
Finally something makes sense!

I first found the web-site and bought the book; first for myself and then many friends. It's so very wonderfully written. Nothing 'in your face' that you have to do certain things. So easy to read and the photos are great. I've recently had a problem with a couple kitties and with the help of Sandy's book, things are SO much better.... Please get it and read it....and get some for your friends....

Whole Health for Happy Cats has become my cat bible. It lives in the kitchen with my `human' recipe books. Like them, it's covered in...ahem... `stuff', as I refer to it so often, particularly with regard to making nutritionally-balanced, cat-appropriate food.
My three cats are benefiting greatly from the info on nutrition and gentle holistic means for treating illness and disease. I'm also benefiting by saving a fortune on vet visits and expensive drugs that often just treat the symptom, not the cause. I feel so much more empowered knowing that I can treat common ailments myself, using items readily available from most health food stores. The book also explains when I should go to the vet without delay. The book is thoroughly researched using the latest information available. For this reason, it's far more useful than older books on the subject.
Without this book, I wouldn't have the confidence to make my animals' food myself. This book has all the information I need to know that the food I'm giving them is not only enjoyable for them to eat, but is nutritionally balanced, based on the latest research in cat nutrition. Given the tragic pet food contamination that killed thousands of cats and dogs, I can sleep at night knowing that my guys won't be the victims of less-than-optimum quality control and cat-inappropriate `filler' ingredients that are in so many commercial pet foods.
I particularly love the `mix and match' table which shows you how to nutritionally balance various types of meat with the other things cats' need.
For those who don't want to make their cats' meals, the book includes details on what to look for in commercial cat food, and what to avoid.
The book covers a whole raft of issues including diet, first aid, treating minor ailments, behavioural issues, reducing stress during vet visits, cat-toxic plants, how to introduce cats to each other to minimise hissing, spitting and flying fur, solving toilet troubles and how to resolve conflict in multi-cat households. There's even a recipe for safe, cat-appropriate tooth paste to maintain good teeth and gum health (I'm psyching myself up to try that out) and a gentle tummy soother.
The book is very easy to read, with lots of gorgeous photos, side bars, graphs and tables and interesting facts and figures. An absolute winner. I've given copies of this book to others and it's also in my public library.
My cats are healthy, lean, purring machines and they have this book and the author's extensive knowledge to thank for that. Every purrson should have a copy.

This book has become a most valuable resource in my house, I have learned so much about proper cat care from Sandy Arora and treasure this book very much. I keep it handy with my cookbooks in the kitchen even :) This book helped me learn to take better care of my cats, they have made the smooth transition to an all raw diet, supplemented by other natural methods of keeping. My copy was always out on loan that I finally got a second copy!

To another pet parent looking for a balance between nutrition and ease of sticking to the routine, this provides guidance sometimes omitted if just dealing with a vet on an annual basis. Our Moxley's 11.5 years young and we almost lost him to urinary cystitis over six years ago. Luckily, his vet succesfully performed a perineal urethrostomy and he's been trouble free since. Although excessive ash in his food was allegedly to blame, it made me re-evaluate what he was eating. He also had slight allergies and some dry spots over his eyebrows which we were told were untreatable as they did not respond to prescription creams. Otherwise, he seemed healthy. Since then, he eats home made food, often raw, with fish capsules squished into the commercial food he gets as a treat. His fur is glorious, eyes clear, dry spots forgotten and he is focused on getting the most out of his life. (If you want to see the sheen of his fur, check out YouTube for Moxley cat spanking). We recommend this book as a great addition to a home library and to share with other (less enlightened) pet owners. When the horror of the pet food recalls happened, we felt safe and grieved for others' loss. No one should blindly trust "corporate strangers" in their pet's welfare. This book will help you take control of it with ease.

As the CEO of a high growth company, I have to periodically change our strategies to meet new challenges. We have a great team of people, but still it takes my team longer to adopt to the changes than I would like. I was struggling with this problem for years. I have paid lot of money to consultants, but results have not been there. I received Theory ZYX book as a gift from a friend who is also a CEO.
As I read Chapter nine, a light bulb turned on; it was as though this chapter was specifically written for my company. Now I know the root cause and the solution.
I highly recommend this book to anyone dealing with change.

This subject can get real dry, but Mr. Arora takes the horror out of reading about change management. If you have a project of any kind where you are directing more than one person this book can help you succeed. I highly recommend it.

Okay, maybe not entirely perfect. It's probably a littl more perfect if you're west of the rockies. Nevertheless, this is without a doubt the best comprehensive book of mushroom collection and identification ever written. The keys are clear, detailed, and concise; the descriptions are excellent; the author is very knowledgeable and provides extensive information about edibility and toxicity rather than making blanket statements insulting to the reader. Microscopic characteristics are de-emphasized for ease of field use, but are still treated well; photography is excellent but not heavily emphasized, leaving most of the page space to the fantastic keys. You must own this book.

I live in Minnesota and I bought this book in December. Obviously, I haven't had a chance to use it for its intended purpose but it looks extremely promising.
I purchased this book because I am highly interested in mushroom hunting and the like. This book is purely a hip-pocket (not hip as in cool, mind you) guide and completely supplementary to another book written by the same author, Mushrooms Demystified: A Comprehensive Guide to the Fleshy Fungi. All That the Rain Promises does not go into extreme depth on all of the different types of mushrooms, rather it gives you an intimate portrait of each mushroom; where it's found, what it looks like, edibility and often anecdotes about the particular mushroom for the sake of identification purposes are included as well as color photos of mushrooms in their natural habitat. It references Mushrooms Demystified for further reading.
Really, don't buy this book without also buying Mushrooms Demystified. I wouldn't feel comfortable going on a mushroom hunt having simply read this book.

Wonderful book! I'm no longer a "fungiphobe" hooray! I highly recommend it and it goes great with mushrooms demystified, and fits in my pocket, it's interesting and fun not bland at all like some guides can be. It even gives you good recipes for some of the edibles. Only shows psilocybe semilanceata and psilocybe cyanescens for those who care. Has easy to identify edibles that the book helped me to feel confident about!

I got this a few years ago at a class Arora taught in Ft Bragg. I keep it with my hiking supplies because I certainly can't carry Mushrooms Demystified: A Comprehensive Guide to the Fleshy Fungi around with me. This one is a great read and is enough, with its fine photos, to do decent field identification.
I can understand that people in other areas might be disappointed in the western focus, but be aware that the 1986 MD has a broader geographic scope.
Don't think you can beat Arora for mycological knowledge and he communicates it very well with verve and humor.

This book was written by someone with practical experience. It is and easy read and well organized. The author does a great job of covering the BPM project lifecycle, presents his experiences and offers best practices. Also, organizations will find what to look for in a BPM solution today (and what to look for in the future) very useful as they explore the BPM Market. A must read for those new to BPM as well as those who have been working in the BPM Market for awhile. Highly recommended.

There is a lot of interest in Business Process Management (BPM) systems. Most of the books out there are either BPM vision books, assume you know what a BPM system or they offer a vague definition that doesn't help all that much. This book provides in detail BPM concepts and BPM project best practices & strategies. Sandeep approaches the topics systematically - explaining why BPM is important for the extended enterprise, IT & business divide, components of BPM, best practices and strategies for the process life cycle (discover-design-deploy-monitor-optimize) and closes with process excellence examples. I liked the appendix which list strategies to select a BPM software vendor. BPM implementors will avoid a tunnel vision development if they read this book during BPM implementation . I would have like to see more information on BPM standards like BPEL, BPMN in this book.

The book covers the key areas of BPM - BPM components, process life cycle best practices, implementation and is vendor neutral. It is certainly written for both business and technical audience. Most of the books on BPM out there are either BPM vision books or BPM theoretical books. After reading the book it is clear that Sandeep has implemented enterprise BPMS due to the wide spectrum of practical topics covered. The book makes clear that implementing Enterprise BPM is complicated andneeds thorough BPM understanding and planning. Companies thinking of implementing BPM will right away benefit from this book. The book makes clear that process improvement is not a one time effort - and once the BPM team is on the right track - with a process mindset - the benefits of BPM are enormous. I recommend this book.

It's obvious that this book was written by the hands of experience. What Arora has done is distill what really counts in the emerging world of business process management from the perspective of someone who has "been there, done that," implementing real BPM, in a real company, with real stakes. This book is for hard-working, reality-grounded business and IT professionals who want to-the-point information about the business case for BPM and experience-based straight talk about implementation.
