Althought this is a rare breed, I was so glad to see an eminent expert on Dandies as the author. The information on the breed could not have been more complete, addressing the history in detail, with excellent annotations supplementing the standard, personal stories and details on grooming and showing. I was also impressed on the detail of the grooming techniques provided. I have a number of other books previously written on Dandies, but consider this to be far and above the best them.

This book is exccellent. It gives very detailed information about the breed. I recommend anyone who thinks they are interested in this perticular breed to read this book and you will have a very good understanding of the breed. For those who are interested in showing this breed this book gives excellent recommendations and suggestions on how to groom for the show ring and the pet. EXCELLENT EXCELLENT BOOK

This book is very well written for children. Parents can read it to their children and children can use the book to read on their own. The illustrations are outstanding and relate to children. I have bought this book not only for my use, but friends that have grandchildren. Everyone that has received this book absolutely love it. We are all anxiously waiting for MaryAnne Gregg's next book.

Easily the best new childrens book to come along in years! Musical rhymes and adorable pictures make this a fun story for kids and parents. There's even a lesson to be learned about making friends with and being accepted by someone different from yourself. I've had the pleasure of previewing some of the authors upcoming stories and they are also outstanding, like "chicken soup" for a child's soul-so good you forget it's good for you! I highly reccommend this book, makes a great gift too!

This is another wonderful tale from Stuart who gives you big book quality even in series romance. He is naturally dark and brooding, the O'Neil, living with his housekeeper and son on the edge of the Maine coast, hiding from deep dark secrets and torments that he could not save him family from drowning. Cursed to live alone.
She runs off the road in the middle of a hurricane to avoid hitting a ghostly little girl and it plunges her car into the deep waters of the sound. Just as she thought she was dying she is saved by O'neil.

Taking the old worst opening line to start a book and making it a title, Stuart gives you one great supernatural tale and another of her dark tormented heroes.

Awesome!

I could not put this book down. All I can say is if you loved Jane Yolens book "Greyling" as a child, you will love the shape-shifting hero O'Neal, and his ghostly family. This book is as good as it gets.

This book has a great story that both kids and parents will relate to, but it also has some excellent techniques and tips to help elementary-aged children cope with everyday anxieties. As the mom of a daughter who tends to magnify minor problems, I loved the Worry Beast!

Dear Cara Offers Inspiration and Shares a Story of Love

Review Date: 2000-10-15
Dear Cara is a book about a man and a woman, across the world from one another, both in miles and the lives they lead. Otto Frank, who survived the death camps of the Holocaust but lost his daughter there, shares his hope and inspiration with a young American woman whose life is unfolding. His shares his unfailing human spirit and his love with Cara, a young woman who first wrote to him at the age of 13. Throughout her life, from her teen-age years, to college to marriage to motherhood, Otto Frank is there with her, offering his support and his inspiration. He listens to Cara's dreams, her troubles, her worries and through their correspondence, she feels the joy that a young person feels when someone is listening. A young woman's voice is heard. When, as an older woman, Cara's world is turned upside down, the wisdom and hope that Otto Frank gave her for twenty years, sustains her through her pain and provides her the support she needs to endure and accept, and ultimately, to grow from her own experiences. This book is must-read for young people and for adults who believe, or want to remember, through pain and turmoil, how important and precious hope, and love, is.

From Girl to Woman (With a Very Special Mentor)

"I received your kind letter and thank you for it. It was very nice of you to send me your photo, so that I have a better impression of you as a person..."

So begins Otto Frank's first letter to a young American girl in 1957, a suburban California girl named Cara as much in the mainstream of American society as the pop songs she listens to on the radio. That girl had read Anne's diary, had been deeply moved by it, and had written to Anne's father.

He wrote back.

Cara wrote to him again. Otto wrote back. She wrote again. He wrote again. And so on and so forth...for decades. They grew close. Cara faced all the same questions we face, about school, love, marriage, child-rearing, politics, family. But she had a very, very special mentor.

This book is her story of that relationship. Yes, it's a remarkable pairing. But it's also a remarkable tour through the last half of the 20th century, through the Civil Rights movement and Vietnam, the Watergate days, too many wars in the Middle East; all reflected in a single woman's coming of age. The letters back and forth are always revealing and quite often gripping. They are about private troubles and public issues. And when Cara, as a woman, goes to visit an ailing Otto, by now an old man, it would take a reader with a hard heart indeed not to feel a lump in the throat, at least. Then, when Otto her a collection of something that takes us, the reader, completely over the edge, in the best possible way.

We recommend this book to anyone, of any age. It is just special.

A valuable read for all ages

This novel depicts the historical figure of Hypatia, a scientist of the city of Alexandria around the turn of the 4th century AD. She became the victim of outraged Christian mobs accusing her of Pagan practices and she was brutally murdered. The contents of the world famous library, of which she was the keeper, was destroyed and irreplaceable manuscrips of antiquity vanished forever. I regret that this nice little paperback is touted in the catalog by the pubisher (The Royal Fireworks Press) as a book for girls. I think that's a mistake and may limit its market. It definitely is a book for all ages and certainly equally for boys and girls. The author tries to make the historical contents pallatable for young readers by fictionalizing Hypatia's interaction with her younger brother and a score of historical characters. A difficult job. In spite of trying to personalize Hypatia and her time, the book reads quite academic and presents demanding language. I think that parents or teachers should co-read the book and discuss it with young readers, who for this book are categorized as junior and senior high school.

I Thought this book was really well written. At some Points it was a little boring, but at the end I couldn't put it down. It's about a young women Hypatia who lives in the time Cristianity starts to take over Rome. It takes place in Alexandria, Egypt and she tries to save the library of Alexander. During this she goes through a lot of adventures.

Ok, this is not your typical Christmas story. David Blade is an unusually real hero dealing with the intense pain caused by the suicide of his troubled wife. Jean Young is dealing with shadows of failure from her own past. If you are like me, about three quarters of the way through this book you won't be able to stand the stress. You may just decide all the trauma is simply not worth it, and frankly, you may really dislike David ('s okay; he's imaginary!!!). But . . .this book has an incredible ending, more impressive than I would have said an author could pull off. Many stars to Early! (Those wanting a different perspective on the events leading up to this story should take a look at Early's Forever and a Baby.)

In THE THIRD CHRISTMAS Margot Early deftly reminds us of the power of love to heal the shattered heart. From the first page, the reader is drawn into the emotional intensity of this nimbly plotted, lovingly crafted novel. Ms. Early's characters are complex and vivid, startingly alive and sexy. THE THIRD CHRISTMAS will hold your heart until the very last word! I adored this book! -- Laura DeVrie

I found this book to be very informative. As an absolute beginner it sure has helped me to accomplish much. I truly recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn how to paint decoratively. This book will let you know you can make beautiful art work even if you've never done anything like it before.

Being an extreme beginner, I was looking for a complete manual to help me start on my new painting "career". After reading and using the material in this book, I consider myself capable of not only producing quality pieces of artwork, but being able to both sell them and be proud to give them as gifts.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who, wants to learn how to paint; needs to find hard to find supplies; needs a color conversion chart or wants a brush-up course on strokework.

Justin, a man with a painful past and a reputation as a troublemaker, finds himself in deep, deep trouble. A spy, disowned by his family, he finds himself framed for a murder he did not commit and with his own life in danger. Not knowing who he can trust, he sets out to hide himself while he tries to investigate. Then he saves Catherine Meade's life, and is badly injured himself...

He can't tell Catherine who he is, so he pretends that his initial amnesia has continued. Although she is drawn to him, she doesn't trust him; she knows he's lying, and she also sees him sneaking out of the house at nights. And her own past makes her see his attempts at flirtation as the mark of a seducer.

However, propinquity does have certain effects, if either of them were able to see what is happening to them....

The love story here is low-key, but warm and loving; a man and a woman, neither of whom think they deserve to be loved, slowly begin to realise that their perceptions are not reality. In the end, Justin gains more than Catherine; the shadows of his past turn out to be less distressing than he had imagined. Catherine, too, has the courage - thanks to Justin's encouragement - to face her demons.

As for the threat to Justin's life and the many assassination attempts made in the course of the book, Barbour handled that well, keeping me guessing right up until a couple of lines before she revealed the culprit. Very cleverly plotted!

Definitely a keeper.

While the author does not claim that this is a how to book, if you look past the amazing photos you will find lots of helpful tips for creating arrangements with your own "twist." I have taken professional flower arranging classes in the past, but still much of this information was new to me. While the book has a contemporary flair, the startlingly unique (think smoke tree & roses!)designs range from naturalistic to refined. I flip through this book as an inpiring reference whenever I need to choose color combinations in art or home decor, dream up a theme for a party, or put together a simple bouquet using whatever can be found in the garden. This book has also been well received when I have given it as a gift.

Truly inspired - a great find for floral design

Amazing book! There are so many unique ideas for any season. Creative things you'd never think of. I've used it for special occasions as well as everyday arrangements. I particularly love the inspired use of alternative containers like artichokes, peppers and pumpkins. The photographs are stunning. Not only is it helpful, but it makes for a great coffee table book. I love it!
