Alaska is our biggest state, and this book has some truly big pages (mostly 12x16, but occasional 12x36 foldouts). We see terrific photos of rainforests, rivers, waterfalls, glaciers, mountains, including of course, Denali (Mount McKinley), the aurora, volcanoes, wildlife, towns, cities, people, and more. And there are fifteen 12x16 pages of well-written articles: on history, landscapes, resources, and lifestyles. I really like this book, and I recommend it.

The books unusual (12x16), wide-open, landscape format is well-suited to the subject: the largest, most majestic state (and land) I've visited. Spectacular photos carefully edited from 11 photographers.

The cover (and back cover), 12x32, appropriate pays homage to Denali (Mt. McKinley), viewed from Wonder Lake. Plus numerous other views of Denali, and all Alaska's major regions, national parks, cities.

With plenty of thoughtful essays, also of high caliber. And at a great price...

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It was packed full of very precise, useful information and the included CD-ROM was a terrific bonus! I especially enjoyed the straight forward approach that the book presents. Sponsorship has evolved and our company's views about sponsorship need to as well. This book provided us with the information and tools that we need to move our corporate sponsorship program into the twenty first century.

Indispensible!

This book was indispensable! It helped me understand how wise corporate sponsors determine who gets accepted for a sponsorship! If you are having difficulty obtaining a corporate sponsor, I would highly recommend reading this book. Understanding how businesses make their sponsorship decisions gives you an edge over your competition. I am now better prepared to pitch my presentation and have high hopes of landing a great sponsor! The cards are now stacked in my favor.

This book is outstanding. It has totally revolutionised the way we approach our investment in sponsorship. I had never realised we were so backward until I read this book and it made so much sense. We are now in the process of renegotiating many of our sponsorships to get better results for the brand, not just put our logo in front of people.

The tools and checklists that are included in the book and on the CD-ROM have made changing our approach much easier. They work on all sizes and types of sponsorship. We have even customised some of them for our regional marketing people so that they can do a better job on the smaller sponsorships that they invest in.

I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in sponsorship.

Stay Through the Night by Anne Mather
Harlequin Presents # 2581 - 2006

Sent by her frantic mother to find her teenage sister, Rosa travels to a remote Scottish island. She'd been told her sister has taken up with best-selling horror author, Liam Jameson. Only when she finds Liam, her sister isn't with him nor had she ever been. After a horrendous attack by a deranged fan, Liam keeps pretty much to himself. Not only does he face the physical scars and daily pain, but the emotional ones too when his fiancée left him. Rosa sees the man Liam is and she's intensely attracted, but after a disasterous marriage she'd not willing to risk her heart again. Liam doesn't want Rosa's pity so he finds ways to push her away.

This was a lovely read about betrayals and personal healing. Liam isn't a typical Presents alpha - in fact, I don't think I'd class him as alpha just determined and bitter. Rosa has a tough job convincing him that the outer scars mean nothing to the man he is inside. I was routing for both Liam and Rosa, and was very happy they found there HEA. :D

I really loved this book. Often you find a hero that is completely confident, if not arrogant, and he seems to have no problems of his own, while the heroine is bombarded with problems and self-esteem issues. I loved that both of them were hurt and heal each other.

Fact or Fiction .....

Book Description: Liam Jameson is a world-famous writer of paranormal thrillers. But fame has its price, and now Liam lives reclusively on a remote Scottish island. Then Rosa Chantry knocks on his door and throws his world upside down. His desire for her is strong, but his conviction that he cannot satisfy a woman is stronger. But Rosa is persistent, and so is Liam's need for her. She is determined to ease his fear that the past has robbed him of his power as a man....

This book was better than I expected. It brings together two people, seriously hurt and betrayed in the past, dealing with trust and self image issues as a result of past wrongs. He adds to their problems a crazed fan, and self-absorbed ex-fiancée; while she adds an addled, inconsiderate, mother, a selfish, self-absorbed sister (Mom's favorite), and a horrid ex-husband. This story is a quick read sure to please Harlequin Presents fans.

An absolute keeper...

I loved this book right from the start. It is fast paced, witty and kept me to my couch until the end. It was funny to read that Amanda - the time traveller - would have killed for a piece of pizza or a juicy cheeseburger. That she suffered through the realization that toilet paper had to be inveted yet, etc. I wished that Amanda would have used her knowlege of the future more to change everyday life, expecially when planning the restoration of "The Park" or in any other aspect of life, to better the position of women in society for excample. Her adaption into regency life as a woman without even trying to "meddle" quite a lot did not strike true to me. To be fair it has to be said that the book only covers about two months in Amanda's new life therefore there is not much that she could have achived. But I would have loved to read an additonal chapter like "10 years later" or so, just to learn what she did with her knowledge and if her husband learned to accept her as an equal partner. Nevertheless, the book is more than worth reading, so if you can put your hands on a copy - DO IT.

Delightful Regency

Ms. Barbour's knowledge of the Regency era is as solid as her power of reasoning. Both combined allowed her to create a believable time-travel story -- not an easy task for any writer. Fans of the conventional Regency romance will like this book and so will anyone who enjoys a well-plotted story.

This is indeed a keeper. I have it on my shelf.

This is a good read for a cold winter's evening
The characters are human and the heroine knits
That is definately a plus point in my book but then I'm biased, I knit as well
It is also nice to see a less likely heroine find the man of her dreams
Well done for creating such a personable set of characters

Is the heroine anything like Anne McCaffrey I sometimes ask.

I read constantly and have always come back to this book. I read it every year and enjoy the unlikely occurrances that happen and how in the world could this happen. It's a taste of the unusual that we would like to happen to us. How unlikely our travels would be but then we meet Dan. Now I have had my trip out-of-town and can adventure forth back to my everyday. I love the way she makes it all seem so possible. It's an easy read and the best change-of-pace I have found.

An excellent read.

The charactorization in this book is excellent. The plot twists & turns and keeps you turning the pages, one right after another. I read this book in just five hours. The next thing I knew it was 4:30 am. I paid for it the next day but it was worth it. I hope that one day I meet a man like Dan-The-man. Thanks Anne.

This book is of great assistance for young folks starting to enter either the business world, college or for young marrieds. Should be part of every job service office. Takes the time to explain in easy to understand language the important requirements like getting a job, budgets and even finding and caring for an apartment.

As an owner of a professional typing service, I type resumes for a variety of people. However, the young people who are starting out have no idea what is necessary to write a good resume, or what is necessary to get their first interview and land a job. My time is limited, so even though I previously spent a considerable amount of time trying to assist these young people,I can now refer to them to this wonderful book. It is written in language that all teens can understand, with lots of humor, recipes, helpful hints about dressing for that all important interview, and sure fire ways to land the job you want. I loved it.

The chapters on managing your finances are especially noteworthy. If someone had given me this book when I graduated high school, I'd be a millionaire! A must for that special teenager.

Heartwarming tale with a lesson

Initially I thought this was going to be another version of the "Gingerbread Boy" but it turned out to be much more uplifting. My 5 year old daughter is fascinated by the story. I doubt if she got a "lesson" from it on a conscious level (who knows what they pick up subconsciously), but it struck me as an allegory about parents wanting to protect their children from the dangers and sorrows of life, when those are the very things that will make them fully human. Note that there is a point at which we wonder whether the Sugar Child and her best friend will die. It is handled gently and the ending is definitely happy, but I remember times in the past when my daughter would have been very disturbed by the drama and fear along the way. But if your child is able to handle that sort of climax, it's a beautiful, sweet story with soft and comforting illustrations.

I was intrigued by The Sugar Child. The story is sweet and the values are kind and heartfelt. With all the roughness of today's world, it is lovely to find a children's story that nurtures love and kindness. My little niece who is five years old loves to hear the story and lose herself in the beautiful soft pictures.

Great Introduction to Parenting a Diabetic Child

Review Date: 2000-08-05
I read this book as I sat beside my 13 year old daughter's hospital bed-- she had just been diagnosed with diabetes. It presented important information in a much more user-friendly way than the formal diabetic education we were receiving. It showed the challenges we would face, and helped me understand more the impact on the entire family.

I highly encourage all of those involved with diabetic children to read this book. I will be loaning my copy to my daughter's counselor so that she will be better equipped to help my daughter cope with her diabetes.

This book is so well written. Being a mother of a 12 year old girl who has diabetes, I could not put the book down. I laughed, cried and felt like I was there with the characters in the book. It gives the reader a good insight as to how it feels to have a loved one with diabetes, and how you are not as alone as you may feel in this situation. It also has an educational value, without feeling like you are reading another "facts only" manual on diabetes.

Following the enchanting Swordbird, Sword Quest is better! How interesting that this book is a prequel and can be read alone but is better when reading them in order. Nancy Yi Fan says her next book will fall between the two books sequentially so there looks like we may have another great series in the making. As a Reading teacher, my 6th graders loved this book and so did I! The way the birds become human-like characters is so interesting and engages your emotions and heart!

Ranks up there with the Warrior and the Seekers series. If you like them, you will love these!

My third grade son claims Sword Bird as his favorite book and says that he liked this prequel "almost as much." He reads constantly, so naming a book as a favorite is a big claim for him. He and a number of friends his age have reporting loving Sword Quest because the characters and action are so interesting. I think they also are intrigued that it was written by such a young person.

My 7-year old son and I read Swordbird first before reading this prequel and I enjoyed both books every bit as much as he did if not more. To think a 12-year old girl imagined this wonderful story filled with rich characters is both humbling and fascinating. I dearly hope Nancy Yi Fan will continue writing this series. I would put her series in a league near Harry Potter.
